MORNINGSTAR FLOORS

Morningstar Floors was chosen by our builder for installation of our wood and natural stone tile flooring. His initial bid was 20% higher than market for the wood floors, but we talked him down to $10.50 per square foot for installation upstairs on plywood, and $11.50 downstairs on the concrete slab. He did an OK job on the installation, albeit slow and on several days he nor his crew showed up at all. But when he laced the new floor into the old, it took two months and at least 5 efforts of communication to get him to lace the floor in so it was not an obvious patch job. The real problem came when he tried to bill me $11.00 per square foot for laying tile in my laundry room. Market is $2 to $3, and he started the job before he showed me his bid. I fired him as soon as I saw his bid, which he would not negotiate. His total bid was $27,000 for the labor in laying our tile. I got it done for less than $10,000. He even threatened a lien until I told him I would sue him, and we settled for $2514. He lied to me on several occasions, failed to show up on the job many times, tried to charge me double the cost of grout and hardiback, than the cost at a hardware store. And he tried to charge me a $350 trip charge to pick up some tile for our house. Don't use this guy, or you will wish you hadn't.
