Covenant Air Conditioning & Heating

I have an overall negative experience with this Covenant company. I got a new Champion brand 2 ton 14 seer HVAC system installed by Covenant a few years ago. Looking back from today's view, I realize that I was heavily over charged. The price I paid to Covenant was almost the same as I recently paid for another new installation of a Carrier brand 3.5 ton 15 seer system. Besides price, the installation quality was another problem. During the 2 year labor warranty period, the system was found to have its plenum open in the attic, which was caused by a sloppy installation (bad seal). Then, right after the 2 year was over, we found the AC was draining water through the ceiling of the room under it. It was found that Covenant did not GLUE together a joint of the draining PVC pipe. They simply inserted the pipes together WITHOUT using PVC glue. When Covenant was contacted, they refused to address this problem, quoting the expiration of the 2 year warranty, not to mention the repair work needed for the ceiling.

I had to call and e-mail several times before someone spoke to me. The office personnel, Angie, was fantastic, but responsiveness of staff to visit our home for an estimate was slow. The day they came the "window" was all day! and they came just before 5. Then the estimate they gave me was on the 2nd page of a carbon copy that was very light and poorly written so that it made it difficult to review with my husband to know what they were offering us. I had to call and e-mail to get another copy which was a scan of the one they gave me. At first the price seemed good until I found out all that it did not include as compared to the company we went with.

All done to make sure AC ready for summer. Quick, professional, all good. He didn’t even try to sell me a whole new system, which happened two years ago when my system is still working well.

Great!! Very fast and knowledgeable!! Found problems we were not aware of and solved them. Would hire again in a heartbeat.

The bottom line is that we are happy with the result and with the work that was done by Covenant. However there's room for improving the communication with the customer. The full story: We were shopping for 2 new HVAC systems to replace old units, one of the quotes was given by Covenant. Michael came over to do his due diligence on the existing systems and compose the bid for 2 replacement units. He was very thorough, polite and patient, and answered all our questions, both during the visit and later in email correspondence. We scheduled the replacement of 2 units for a Thursday and the next Friday. Two young men showed up to install the units. They were polite and focused on their job, and by the end of the two days both units were installed. When Michael gave us his bid he said they would not leave before EVERYTHING was checked, however that was not the case. We were also concerned with the noise levels of the new furnaces (similar to our very old units, and one aspect discussed in length with Michael in advance). in addition, we coincidentally found the installers did not install the wet switch that Michael had included in the bid for one of the units. The installers were able to get hold of Michael, and were told to go get one and install it before they leave and that he would come over on Monday to handle the noise issue. Over the weekend I emailed Michael with a list of items I wished him to come back and complete, including a full test report, code compliance report, ensuring the installers covered all the items he had placed in the original bid and do something about the noise. On Monday noon I called Covenant as I have not heard back. Roy, the operations Manager said Michael got my email and would visit that day. A few hours later Michael came over (after a call in advance) with the 2 installers. He explained he was off on Friday and that's why he came over only on Monday. He had my email printed and checked/tested/did/went over everything I had in it. As for the noise, he instructed the team to muffle it with noise absorbing boards they brought with them which did help in dramatically reducing the noise level. To summarize - At the end of the day we got the 2 units delivered as expected. We only wish we had known in advance that Michael was away on Friday and the completion of the work (tests/checks/reports) would be done on Monday. Would I do business with Covenant again? Yes, with emphasizing the importance of communication to keep me informed of the plan in advance.

Excellent … Michael responded quickly … very knowledgeable …great price, contract signed Monday evening … new ac and heating unit installed on Wednesday … the 2 techs installing the units were polite and hard working young men... Michael came by to assure all was going well.

Excellent service and quality work

It went well. I needed a new AC in one day. Many AC Service providers would not perform service in a modular home. Covenant explained the problem with air conditioning systems in modular homes and the things he could do to make the new system work better. They installed a new AC system and heat pump in the one day. The system works wonderfully and uses much less power than I expected.

We received four bids for this project. All were very good. Covenants was the best bid for what we wanted. Not only did we need a new system but they discovered a few things in the attic that was making the system less efficient. Michael and team were very knowledgeable. We were able to get rebates from the manufacturer and electric company. After the work was completed Michael conducted a walk through with us and taught us how the use our new thermostat. The thing we liked best was that the explained all our options and then we were able to chose the options that best fit our needs. This was very helpful as there had been many improvements since we last purchased a system. We definitely will use them again.

Perfectly. Covenant did everything they said they would, on time and in budget. No surprises. The system is working fine and we are very pleased.

They are the best! They checked out out everything to ensure there was no carbon dioxide build up in our home.

I agreed to go with the high end replacement with a heat pump, the larger AC, with modifications to the engineering issues. The air conditioner was installed by the end of the day, and I am very happy with the result.

Covenant made several trips out to get the unit up and running for us. Now that they are familiar with my system, I will use them for any future repairs needed.

Went well. Roy showed up within 3 hours of my call. Oddly, the system had started up by then so I thought I was out of the woods except for finding out why it died. He checked the inside and outside units and determined that the fan motor in the inside unit was faulty (which honestly came as no surprise given a previous problem with the the unit a couple of years ago). We agreed that they would replace it two days later. Unfortunately, the system died again permanently that same night. The following day (a day before we had agreed the work would be done), the company was able to shuffle things around (one person dropped off a part, and Roy squeezed the work in between two other service calls not too far away) so that the system was up and running again by 1:30 in the afternoon.

Told to wait between 8am and 12pm, arrived close to 3pm. Diagnostic said I have to change a switch, $175. Accepted, but didn't fix the problem. Next, wiring blamed, had to wait more than one hour. Said it will work after fixing some connections, yet it didn't make a difference. Next, blamed the control board, $790. Told control board is fried although error code signaled pressure switch locked. Suggested we buy new AC unit. Gave up, not believing this chain of requests. Repairman insisted I had to pay for diagnostic and switch. Paid, although didn't get the old switch to look at it. Doesn't get worse than this in terms of service.

We selected six HV/AC service providers from Angie's List that had an A+ rating in the greater Austin area. We then received quotes for the exact same Trane HV/AC configuration (one was American Standard) from each of the six companies. After reviewing and comparing all six bids, 'apples-to-apples', I selected Covenant Air Conditioning & Heating. The owner, Michael Luker, personally came out to our house four times during the estimation and installation. Michael performed the final QA/QC walk down when the Trane system was installed. The installation was as promised, on-time and complete. I could not be more pleased with the work, equipment and personal attention Michael provided. Michael told us exactly what he was going to do, and then he did exactly as he said. I cannot give any higher recommendation than I would to Covenant Heating & Air Conditioning. They were very conscientious about keeping the house clean. They put down tarps and swept when they were done.

Several companies I called were too busy to come out to check on my unit but Covenant Air said they could squeeze it in between appointments or at the end of the day.  Their technician Troy came out and he was awesome.  I was hoping it was a capacitor issue (and so was he) but unfortunately it was the motor.  They quoted me $700 to replace the motor as well as the $65 fee for diagnostic.  I decided to decline the service because I just simply couldn't afford the price.  However, I was able to find the OEM part at a local distributor and paid $130 and installed it myself in less than an hour.  My only issue in price was the diagnostic fee.  I asked the lady I spoke with on the phone and she said that it would be $55 but the tech told me it was $65.  I wasn't about to fight with the tech cause it could have just been an honest mistake from the office and he was more than helpful so I wasn't going to let $10 get in the way of our business relationship.
