RJN Contractors has done several jobs for us in the past including wood flooring, tile work, bathroom water leak repairs, and a new roof. They always start on the day specified and finish the work promptly as promised. This most recent carpeting and painting job was estimated to be done in 3-4 days and it was completed on time and in a more than satisfactory manner.
Description of Work: Installed new carpet in three bedrooms and hallway; painted bedrooms, hallways and front door; and installed three ceiling fans. All materials and labor were covered in the estimate without additional charges. Service included moving furniture in and out of rooms before and after the work.

We hired RJN after getting his name from a friend (who had never hired RJN to do work). At first Ruben seemed very professional and knowledgeable, but that quickly changed. He told us the project would take 7-10 days, it took over a month. We never knew when the workers were going to show up- some days they came late and some days they didn't come at all. He said the project was going to cost around $10,000, but it ended up costing over $13,000. He made us pay for things that we thought were included in the price (like hardware for the door). Ruben said he was going to bypass the permit process and hire a private inspector, and we never saw an inspector once during the construction. We ended up hiring our own inspector two months after the project was completed. Several things still need work, and we've called Ruben to ask about these things. He never returns our calls, or he says he will come with the inspector or to finish the work and he never does. The last time we talked to him, he said the only way he would come and finish the work (things we've already paid him for!!!) was if we promised to give him a 100% positive review. That was the last straw. Whatever you do, do not hire this company.
Description of Work: RJN turned a walk-in attic into a bedroom/media room.

The contractor was recommended by a friend who had a large remodeling job done. We were told the job would take 3-4 days to complete. Demo and prep work was done in short time of 2 days. We were given a tile allowance of $400. We could not find tile in the necessary sizes for the alloted price. Contractor could not give an acceptable alternative, so we agreed to spend an additional $400 to purchase matching tile in the correct sizes. We were assured before signing the contract that porcelain tile could be purchased for the alloted $400. At this point I regretted hiring this person. Tile was purchased on 11/3 and tile installation began on 11/4. The tiling job was looking unacceptable, so the contractor was called. He was not present for almost the entire job. He arrived and agreed that the job was poor and had his subcontractors remove the tile and redo the job. The tile was re-done on 11/5. The contractor arrived late in the day and agreed that the job was done poorly again. Portions were retiled on 11/6 and then again on 11/7. I was told that the job would be totally finished on 11/9. Nobody showed up. We went through this for several more days of promises and no shows. Sometimes we got no phone calls, sometimes the contractor would call a day late and say that he did not show up (Like we didn't already know that) and that he would be there at a certain time the following day. This guy was NEVER on time. We made an appointment to meet the contractor at the house on 11/13 in the morning to sign off on the job. He was to finish the previous day. My husband took off work to inspect the job. When we arrived, nothing had been done to finish the job and he had not called ahead of time to let us know. Another promise told us the job would be completed by noon the following day, 11/14. He arrived at 1:30 to START the finish work. No phone call. We left in the late afternoon as they were not yet finished. Part of the tile pattern was still not applied properly, but at this point we could not wait any longer for him to fix it as we were moving in a few days and had to clean the house prior to the move. They did not attempt to contain the dust at all. He called to tell us that he was sick for a few days and would finish on 11/18. We met him on 11/19 and paid the balance for the job. The end product was good. It took 3 1/2 weeks to complete what he told us would take 4 days. He was very unprofessional. The tile allowance was nowhere near accurate. The job had to be redone 3 times. He was always late or didn't even show up. I would not recommend him to anyone. He has yet to return our key to us.
Description of Work: Replaced a fiberglass bathtub/shower with a tile shower. Removed existing tub/shower, moved drain, installed new valve, installed hardibacker and pony wall, fiberglass drain pan and porcelain tile, Installed additional light and fan in bathroom.
