FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What payment options do you offer?
We offer free consultations. Customers have the options to lease, finance, or purchase the system outright.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Every project is different depending on what the customer is looking for. We go off the utility bill that shows the monthly kWh usage. This helps us size the system based on how much power you use. If you're looking for a Power Outage Package, we would need to know what items in the home need backup power. From there we can provide solar battery or generator options. Let us know what's important to you and we'll make it happen.
We can complete the consultation either by phone or Zoom. We use Google Maps and other software to get images of your roof. From there we create a preliminary design. If you agree to move forward, we'll schedule a time to do an inspection and measure out the roof. After that we send the information to our engineer who creates the official system design. We handle everything else including permits and HOA.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Our advice would be to not just focus on who has the lowest price. Some of the biggest complaints in the industry is not being able to get a hold of the solar company, and the installer shutting down. If you can't reach them and you need repairs, your system can be down for several months. Worse case you will need to pay out of pocket and hire a different company for repairs. This has been very common in Texas.
If the company shuts down, it will void your labor warranty. These issues can cost you more time and money in the long run. In the past year over 100 solar companies shut down including some of the largest companies nobody ever expected. It's simply not worth it to aim for the cheapest price because you get what you pay for.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
1. Company reviews.
2. Quality of equipment being used (also make sure it's new not used or refurbished).
3. If you're trying to offset your power usage as much as possible, make sure you get the annual system production in kWh and compare it to your annual kWh usage.
4. Nobody can guarantee they'll be in business for the next several years to honor their warranty. How is your labor warranty protected if the company shuts down?
5. Can the company provide some customer bills after getting solar to prove it reduced their electric bill?
6. Are they promising you a $0 electric bill? Nobody can promise that. Depending on your utility company, you can have some months at $0, but every month can be different. Depending if you usage increased, there were more cloudy days, etc.
7. Are they promising you the full tax credit? You can get 30% of the system in the form of a tax credit, however not everyone qualifies.
8. Are they thorough and answer all of your questions? Or do they go in circles and not address your concerns?
9. If you have some shading on the roof, does your proposal factor that in? Shaded systems will not produce as much power as roofs with no shade.
