Boats
Mid May 2013, I entered into a purchase contract to buy a pre-owned yacht. The purchase price of the Vessel was to be continegent and subject to acceptable survey and water demo. Within the next weeks I had each a hull and a mechanical/ engine survey done, for which I paid over $1800. The result of the mechanical survey was not handed to me until the afternoon of 30 May 2013 in the broker's office.  It revealed numerous problems with the engines which would result in many thousand of dollars to correct, as well upon boarding the boat there were unacceptable odors of urine and other waste present in the boat, indicating a poor state of sanitation in the cabins. I have freely provided copies of the results to the broker's agent to prove
the poor condition of the vessel.
I concluded that the boat was not ready for sale and requested cancellation of the agreement. I had to remind the broker ten days later about my earnest money return and finally received a check for $1070 less. I wrote back and requested the remainder of my deposit to be refunded to me, only to receive an e-mail with the seller's comments that they had to withhold this because I owed him 1070 for having the outside of the boat cleaned. Why would a prospective buyer pay for having a boat cleaned? That is a seller's choice to make the item more presentable. I informed the broker twice since since then, stating again that I had not authorized these expenses. requesting a payment of $1070 with absolutely no reply to my e-mails.
I
So far I have not received my full earnest money. I am very disappointed in this brokerage service and would advise any buyer to be very careful when entering into an agreement with them.
