I have First American Home Warranty... I called for a service call for my garbage disposal that's not working & they sent out Scout Plumbing for a service fee to me of $85.00. When Scout got there - there was a tiny pebble half the size of my little fingernail or less. The technician worked about 10 minutes to pull it out. He said First American Warranty doesn't cover something getting down into the unit and they charged me $173. so I ended up paying $258 for a tiny pebble to be removed in about 10 minutes. THIS IS GOUGING especially since I received an invoice for $312. I called and they said $139 was billed to First American so Scout spent 10 mins, pulling out a tiny, tiny pebble & charged First American $139.00 but that wasn't enough for them to pull a pebble out, no, they said it was a "repair" even though they didn't repair one single thing but instead pulled out that tiny pebble that stopped the blades from turning. I couldn't even see the pebble with a flashlight to know it was there. Do not call the unless you want to get gouged for their service. Why wasn't $139.00 enough money for 10 minutes to take a small piece of ANYTHING from between the blade? Why was that $312 with $173.00 STOLEN FROM ME when my company was paying them $139.00 for the call? GOUGING - STEALING PURE AND SIMPLE.

Beware of unethical business practices. Our Home Warranty company assigned Scout for our leaking bathtub. On the first visit, George could NOT diagnose where the leak was coming from, even though I cut a nice large hole in our ceiling to give him full visibility of the plumbing. He told me to try caulking the faucets...really? I spent time diagnosing and determined the leak was coming from the overflow drain. George came back to fix and said 'there was a part missing' (which invalidated my home warranty), but "he could fix it for $250". George could not find or replace the phantom 'missing part' so went to Home Depot and got an entire overflow drain assembly. The overflow still drips and now I have to pay to fix the hole in my ceiling drywall (would have normally been covered by the warranty). Overall, it was a terrible experience and when I called their management to explain, the female 'manager' was less than helpful. I will not use them again and if assigned by my warranty for future work, I will demand another plumber.
Response from Scout Plumbing
"Thank you for advising us. When you did call I was not told that you still had a drip at the overflow. We will be happy to return to take a look at the drip at no charge, if it's on the repair we made. All repairs were agreed upon in advance, all photos and details are on the invoice that was signed and emailed. As far as the warranty is concerned, we can only report our findings and they make the final judgement call. I would discuss your options with the warranty in regards to coverage. In some cases they can make exceptions if you talk with your sales rep."

They replaced a very new garbage disposal that had a seal leak. Took them a couple weeks to come back with the replacement. After installing, the leak was still there. When I called to get them to come back out to correct the work they did, they wanted to charge me the full cost of a service call. Very disappointing.

Went a week without hot water and did not get the hot water heater requested.  My hot water heater went out on a Saturday night, I called my home warranty company ASAP.  They sent Scout Plumbing who came out on Monday.  Plumber took one look at the hot water heater and said it was old and needed to be replaced.  I requested the existing 40 gallon be upgraded to 50 gallon energy star and was told 'no problem' for a small extra charge over what home warranty would cover.  Their initial estimate was for around $1350 with home warranty paying for 2/3rds of it.  And, they would not be able to replace it until Friday, 4 days later.  I was shocked at how high the estimate was for replacing a water heater in the garage and found a couple companies on Angie's List that could do it a lot  quicker and for less money.  Would have used one of them, but since neither was with my home warranty company, it would have been more money out of pocket for me.  In the interest of saving a few dollars, I stuck with Scout.  They came on time Friday morning and did a very professional job replacing the hot water heater.  I thought things were going well until they finished up.  The guy came back to me and said he had forgotten to upgrade the hot water heater as requested.  They installed a 40 gallon instead of a 50 gallon and there is nothing they can do about it at this point.  He apologized.  Well, needless to say, I'm regularly ticked off about it every time a long shower starts to turn cool.  And, to top things off, in the midst of preparing my income taxes, I discovered I can't take any tax deduction for installing an energy efficient hot water heater because the one they installed isn't Energy Star compliant.  He was a very nice charismatic guy, but the end result was extremely disappointing and costly.

They were subcontracted out by my home warranty company to locate and repair a leak underneath my pier and beam foundation.
Their first plumber arrived on a Friday afternoon ill-prepared to locate the leak. He did not have the right equipment, and he was too large to fit underneath the house. (They knew they were coming out to locate a leak under a pier and beam foundation.) Scout wanted to wait another week before they sent out someone else (it was their "soonest available appointment") but I insisted they come back on Monday since I had already waited several days. Meanwhile, there's water and money leaking under my house.
Their second plumber located the small pipe leak but refused to repair it, instead referring me to a water removal company. The representative from the water removal company said he gets a lot of referrals from this plumber, but in this case there was not nearly enough water for them to do any work and he didn't understand why the plumber just didn't fix it. In his own words, he told me "I don't know why you'd want to spend a few thousand dollars drying dirt." I got two second opinions and it was clear: dealing with some water in the dirt is just part of a plumber's job. After a lot of hassle between me, Scout and the home warranty company, and a few days without water, I finally got another plumber from Scout to come out and repair the leak under the home warranty?it only took him about an hour.
I suspect that Scout's second plumber either didn't want to mess with the damp conditions under the house, or he wanted a commission from the water removal guys (again, the rep from that company knew the plumber by name). It felt pretty shady, especially since another plumber easily fixed the leak in an hour the next day. It would have even been reasonable to me if they suggested they come back the next day to let it dry out a little bit; they didn't.
All in all, I wasn't expecting much from the home warranty plumber and I got even less than what I expected. If they are your warranty provider, be wary. I would not recommend Scout Plumbing.

Cold showers and 9 leaks later...
We just moved from Washington D.C. to Texas and signed a lease on a rental property located in Rockwall, Tx. Our household includes 2 adults, several children, and a mastiff. Our move in date was May 15, 2015 and I have not had gas service since I have moved in. Our gas company was unable to turn on service to the house due to failed pressure test. May 15 was a Friday...Awesome right?
Hector from Scout Plumbing came out on Monday to try to identify what was causing the bad read from meter. The landlord of the home uses a home warranty which directed Scout Plumbing to us. Without approval from homeowner, Scout Plumbing is not allowed to move any appliances that could help identify. Dead End.
May 27 - Hector now has approval to do what needs to be done to identify what is causing the pressure test to fail. He arrives early afternoon (approximately 2pm)  and is able to locate the valve to stove top which is nearly impossible to see and that I couldn't find. Runs another test and it fails again. The next step is to attempt to locate any visible leaks. He finds 4 visible leaks. 1 by the joint in the stove. 3 in the attic by the water heater and furnace area. (Let me tell you, it was a HOT and HUMID day in Texas and attics are not a fun spot to be in during these conditions!) At this point, it's now 3:30pm. I was pretty concerned about the amount of leaks that were found but Hector was very knowledgeable in explaining how this could be possible. I was satisfied with his reasoning and felt comfortable with him continuing. He made a quick run to get parts and was back by 4:30pm to get back to work. He repaired all leaks and ran another pressure test...It FAILED. NO JOKE! At this point, he cannot continue to work without approval from landlord to make small cuts into drywall to cover joints that aren't visible.
May 28 - Hector has now received approval from my landlord to do whatever needs to be done to locate and fix any leaks that the house may have. He brings an apprentice plumber with him to make the work flow smoother and faster in hopes of getting this issue resolved TODAY. They showed up around 2:30-3:00PM. Alex (apprentice) was great! He was knowledgeable and was able to answer my questions about county permits and what exactly was being done. He was very cooperative and was eager and helpful in locating an additional 5 leaks throughout the house. Even though he was younger and less experienced than Hector, he has a promising future in this field. There is now a total of 9 leaks that have either been capped for testing or replaced. The pressure test still fails. It's now 6PM. The next thing to do is to section off the house to determine which side it is coming from...That didn't sound awesome to me but I am REALLY craving a HOT shower after weeks of cold ones.
All in all, house was sectioned off. All pipes were taken apart and re-threaded due to poor installation. Some were just plain loose. 9PM - WE GET A CLEAN READ ON THE PRESSURE TEST!
Words can not express how grateful and appreciative I am of Hector's diligence and persistence that was required to solve this problem for my family.
I HIGHLY recommend Scout Plumbing to anyone requiring services. They are fair, honest, and hard workers. Ask for Hector ;)

$340

I am actually OK with paying a fair price for a fair amount of work.  This is why I'm so p*****.  After telling me what a major issue this was, he was here for less than 30 minutes!!  For $340, he should have been here through dinner, that would have been fair!

He never had to get into the wall, the old cover where the handle was located was not taken off, sealant is the same as it was, and he replaced my nice metal handle that broke off with a $ .50 cent plastic thing.  All he did was add an extension to the metal stem in the wall and attached a new, cheap, handle.  Definitely NOT $340 worth of work.  Actually had the audacity to write on the work order form that "additional labor was needed".  Seriously?!?

I got gouged and taken advantage of, and I'm really p***** about it.  I deserve at least half my money back.  Again, I'm OK paying what's fair, this was not fair!

"I'm sorry we did not meet your expectations or you feel we took advantage of you. Scout Plumbing values everyone of our customers. You were given a estimate to perform the work requested which you agreed to prior to the work being done. The estimate is based on prior experiences of the time and materials needed to resolve your plumbing issue. Fortunately, the necessary repair was not as bad as it could have been and our technician was able to complete the repair in less time than expected. Most professions these days price their services the same way; whether that is your doctor, A/C mechanic, car mechanic or whoever. Feel free to contact us at any time during normal businees hours to discuss this issue further so we can get a successful resolution to your complaint. Mike Humphreys Scout Plumbing"
