2002 subaru outback, 2.5, base. 130k. with this engine, it is not a matter of if, but when the head gaskets will let go. i noticed oil leaking from under the car, i first thought it was the left side valve cover gasket, so i changed it, and cleaned that area as best i could. checking it a few days later, i could see fresh oil. i had bought the car used, and i was hoping the head gaskets were done by the prior owner. not wanting to climb under the car(i am too old), i let spencer's take a look. the first prognosis was head gaskets, but to be sure, they wanted the car left overnite, so they could put some dye in the oil and be sure. the next day, it was confirmed. the price rachel quoted me was good enough to convince me i did not want to do it. 20 years ago, i would have done the job myself, with no second thoughts. ok, 30 years ago. later on, she called back, and said the timing belt tensioner was leaking. if the tensioner lets go, all the valves will hit, and the engine would be toast. so i consider this lucky, because i deliver mail in this vehicle, and the route goes way out in the boonies. not fun to be stuck out there. when i got the car back, it was running really good, better than i can remember. i have also noticed a significant improvement in fuel economy, the best since i have owned this car. quite possibly the head gaskets have been marginal since the day i bought it. i think they did a great job, the car runs great.

i dropped the car off in the morning, after a few hours, they called and said i needed a camber kit. apparently, it was too far out of adjustment. so i authorized the additional work. later on, they called and told me the car was done, and that they did not use the kit, because when they adjusted the right side, the left side was then able to be adjusted within specs. i was glad to hear this, because a camber kit is needed when the suspension has parts that are worn, or bent. a quality auto repair shop is not easy to find, and to have one of this high caliber in krum is a real blessing. the shop is very well laid out, clean, and well equipped to do just about any repair. the techs are very experienced, and both rachel and jerry are very informative, not only on what needs to be done, but also when the car is ready.

CAR DID NOT RUN PROPERLY AND ADDITIONAL REPAIRS WERE MADE AT A DIFFERENT AUTO REPAIRSHOP.

Great as usual. It always cost more than you think, or want it to. You wont find anybody more fair and most importantly, experienced as Jerry. He doesnt "RIG" any repair work, therefore its done for good. You dont have to worry about coming back in for a patch to put on the previous repair! Strongly refer them all the time. I do wish Jerry would kiss and make up with the state and do inspections again. He said it is a wad to bankroll all the equipment to make peanuts. Go see them if you are in north denton, krum, or sanger.
