Kurt and his crew were great! Kurt was timely in returning calls and making appointments. We brought samples with him which was very convenient. His crews started on time and did a great job with the installation and cleanup. Everything was done in about 3 days and it looks great. I'll call him again to do my downstairs.
I had a few planks where the corners came up because they weren't glued down well, and I made numerous attempts to get Kurt to correct the issue. He did respond to emails and calls at first requesting that I wait until they have a job in my area, and this is very unprofessional in my opinion. What if I had asked them to wait on payment until I was in their area? I doubt that would have been acceptable to him. I responded by giving them a week to give me a firm date on when they coud do it, and then Kurt just stopped answering my emails.
In addition to the above, I was also hit with a changer order during the installation. I know change orders happen after you see something unexpected, and I didn't make a big issue of it so the least he could have done was repair this minor issue. I wouldn't be updating my review now had it been done.
With all the floor installers in Houston and surrounding areas, I'd look elsewhere.
"Wow, from April 25th thru September 8th this review was an "A". I do understand that we had emailed back and forth about a small repair (1 inch x 1 inch per photo you sent), and if we could do repair when we are in the area etc. I did not do a good job following back up with you and for that I apologize. But for you to say we scratched up your floors/trim at the time of installation? No way, that is wrong. You say a few planks were coming up? That is NOT what you told me, emailed me or sent me a picture of. You say I added a "change ordered" at the end of the bill? That was for float/leveling the subfloor...it was "in writing" in your very first estimate and "in writing" in your initial invoice...and once we added up what we needed to do the job the dollar amount for material and installation was added into final invoice. The way you write is misleading! In your own words (second to last paragraph) you called the repair that we needed to touch up a "minor issue". I agree with you on that! I do not agree with all this other stuff you have re-written about and I feel like I needed to respond directly on this platform."
After a two and a half day drive from Las Vegas, I come home to find none of my furniture put back in its place. In fact, all of my furniture was shoved into my master bath - bed, two dressers, tv, computer, everything. It was apparent that care was not taken to move my furniture. I called Kurt and told him I would have to stay in a hotel, as I had no other furniture in my home. I had to drive around for an hour to find somewhere that was pet friendly (I had to bring my two dogs with me). It was an extreme hassle and definitely not what I had expected after such a long drive.
The guys met me at my house the next morning to move my furniture back. The floor in the master closet was not completed, as it was supposed to be. The guys told me that Kurt never said anything to them about having to do the closet. Ultimately, the wood that was done looks good, but I can tell there was a complete lack of oversight for, and inattention to detail, to my project. I will not be using Southwest Flooring for my next flooring project.
"Response from the owner, Kurt: Just want to make clear to the Angies List members what went wrong. 1- Upon completion of install, we have to wait 24-48 hours after "final coat" or urethane to cure before moving furniture back into bedroom. We made a mistake by not making it back to move furniture in bedroom...before you arrived from your trip. The very next morning we were at your house to move furniture back. 2- I forgot to tell my guys to install wood in your master closet. I felt terrible for the inconvenience the situation caused you and still feel bad. But, we corrected the next morning by moving furniture back AND I paid the $498 hotel room (for one night) that I told you I would pay for...even though I never, ever expected it would cost that much. But that's what you told me it cost you and I paid it. All the flooring on three different levels of your home turned out beautiful!!!"
