On October 28, 2019, we hired the Scott Amberson with Amberson Construction to renovate our home in Kingwood because of the flood of September 19th (Imelda). Since we lived out of town and he knew it, he started sending us pictures of things he said that he was working on in our home, and we were wiring him money totaling over $28,000.00. Unknown to us, he was living in our home (squatting and we were paying the electric, water and gas bills, and he claimed all was needed in order to do construction in the house). He was not doing the work he was sending us pictures of, was smoking in our home and had women in our home (lip prints all over our windows). A couple of days before he knew we were arriving, he wanted to know our ETA. We came back to Kingwood on January 22nd, only to find that all of the work we paid him for (painting, installation of trim work and doors, replacement of front door or repair, exterior wood work not completed, trash and debris everywhere). He would not answer his phone when we found the condition, so I texted him. He refuses to acknowledge anything on this post. The only work performed was sheet rock and paint which was bleeding through because he did not prime first. We called him the week before we were to arrive and asked him if there was any reason why he could not be completed when we arrived and he stated that all he might not have done would be one small piece of trim on the staircase. When we walked in, he had done nothing...Our new doors we had paid for and all of the trim work was leaning against the walls. The place was in shambles. We called the police and the constable and were told that it was a civil matter and that we would need to take him to court. Scott Amberson belongs in prison. We got to Kingwood and had 2 weeks to get this home back in order. Thanks to Sabrina Reynolds and Kelly James with Reynolds Renovations, we worked everyday from morning until night and were able to get everything taken care of before we left with the exception of a few window seals and a few minor adjustments to the front door. Scott Amberson spent 79 days as far as we have record of, making $359.60 a day and the red flag for me was when he was telling me he was broke in January and needed more money. Thankfully I withheld $749 and told him that once we came and did a walk thru with him, that we would pay the balance. Unfortunately, I signed all of his proposals, so the only money I could possibly recoup in court would be the $5000 we had to pay to get everything completed once we got there. That money was out-of-pocket for us since he had collected every penny we got from our flood policy. Please share this post, so that other people won't be victimized as we were. Thank you.
