Organizationally and administratively, we would give Handyman Matters a "C +". Their craftsman, Bud, however, was outstanding and we would assign him an "A:" He was excellent in everything he did for us. We would hire him again in a heartbeat. We feel as if we got real value from Bud.

UTTERLY TERRIBLE!
I called them to schedule work in the past, they just didn't show up. Tried again last week, scheduled time for this morning and after a half an hour of them being late I called. The lady that answers the phone seemed so confused and just out of it.
They have yet to return my call to explain and my handyman is 4.5 hours late. Some guy from Handyman Matters, "JASON" called me to ask me for my name and then hung up on me.
I think they hire a bunch of druggie felons that just don't work. Save yourself the aggravation and call someone else. They are WEIRD!
"Unfortunately, we have no record of this person ever calling us or scheduling work so I really am at a loss to answer this. This may be a case of mistaken identity as our Office Manager is quite professional and has been employed with us for over 5 years! There are a number of other "companies" with the name "Handyman" in their name within our service area. In order to set the record straight, we have never employed anyone named "Jason". In addition, we require background screening and drug testing as a part of the hiring process. We do not hire people with criminal backgrounds or drug related issues. Since we are a bonded company, we would lose our bonding and a lot more for hiring people with either a criminal background or drug use. We carry an A+ rating from the Houston Better Business Bureau and have been awarded the "Award for Excellence" for the past three years straight."
The contractor was 3 hours late for the appt, spent an hour at Lowes getting supplies, charged $240 for the job and was told they could not warranty the work. The mold returned the very next day. After reading the label on the Kilz2 product that they applied to my bathroom wall it clearly stated that the mold needed to be removed before applying this product. I asked the contractor at least twice if this product would kill the mold and was told "yes" both times.
I made a trip to Lowes myself the next day and was advised what to do to rid the mold. i will redo the work myself and use a different company if the problem persists.
I understand that leak detection in not an exact science, but you expect a little bit more from skilled technician that you are paying $75 an hour.

It was an unfortunate occurrence that the technician that was sent to his home had obtained his position with our company under false pretenses. As soon as we learned of this lack of skill in the trades, he was terminated. Unfortunately, Mr. [member name removed] did not take the opportunity to call our office and tell us about what had happened with his project. I could assure Mr. [member name removed]that he would have had a different outcome if he had called us. We hope that Mr. [member name removed] will call us again so that we may regain his trust and business."

"THE WORK THAT WE DID AT THE MEMBER'S HOME INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING: ASSEMBLED (4) LARGE TEAK WOOD PATIO CHAIRS, (1) TEAK WOOD BENCH, (1) VERY LARGE BARBECUE PIT. INSIDE, WE INSTALLED A TIMER ON A LIGHT SWITCH, AND NEW HANDLE ON A BATHROOM DOOR. WE SENT TWO CRAFTSMEN TO HANDLE THE WORK DUE TO THE SIZE OF THE FURNITURE INVOLVED AND THEY WERE ON SITE FOR EXACTLY THREE HOURS, NOT FOUR. THE MEMBER KNEW THIS PRIOR TO OUR ARRIVAL AND APPROVED THE USE OF TWO MEN. THAT'S EIGHT TASKS ACCOMPLISHED IN SIX MAN-HOURS OF LABOR. WHEN WE FOLLOWED UP WITH THE MEMBER, SHE TOLD US THE TIMER WASN'T WORKING LIKE IT SHOULD. WE SENT ANOTHER CRAFTSMAN TO HER HOME AND REPAIRED THAT UNDER OUR WARRANTY AT NO CHARGE TO THE MEMBER. ALSO, WHEN WE CONTACTED THE MEMBER AND WE POSED OUR OWN FOLLOW UP, SHE RATED US A "10 ON A SCALE OF 1 THRU 10, WITH 10 BEING THE BEST". THE WORK WE DID FOR THIS MEMBER WAS DONE CORRECTLY, IN A TIMELY MANNER BY A PROFESSIONAL SERVICE AT A VERY REASONABLE COST."
"WE WERE HIRED TO: INSTALL DRAWER BELOW WALL OVEN, RAISE WALL OVEN 6 INCHES, REMOVE TV ANTENNA FROM CHIMNEY, HAUL OFF OLD WALL OVEN, ANTENNA, SAND & REPAINT ONE SIDE OF FRONT DOOR (PAINT IS SUPPLIED), REPLACE 1 TILE UNDER DISHWASHER (TILE SUPPLIED BUT WILL NEED GROUT). WHAT WE WEREN'T TOLD WAS THAT THE CUSTOMER ALSO WANTED US TO HAUL A DOUBLE GARAGE FULL OF TRASH AND AS WELL AS THE BACK YARD HAD LARGE AMOUNTS OF TRASH TOO THAT WAS TO BE HAULED. OUR CRAFTSMEN SPENT A TOTAL OF 13 MAN-HOURS COMPLETING THIS PROJECT (2 MEN AT 6.5 HOURS EACH). WHEN THE MEMBER MET WITH ONE OF THE CRAFTSMEN IN THE MORNING, HE ASKED ABOUT HOW LONG WOULD THE KITCHEN WORK TAKE AND WAS TOLD ABOUT 3 HOURS. WHEN HE CALLED US AND SCHEDULED THE WORK, WE INFORMED HIM HOW WE WORK AND ABOUT HOW LONG THE WORK WOULD TAKE IN TOTAL. OUR CRAFTSMEN COMPLETED THIS WORK ON 10/16/08. THE MEMBER WAS NOT AVAILABLE WHEN WE COMPLETED THE JOB OR HE WOULD HAVE BEEN INVOICED ON THE SPOT FOR THE WORK DONE. WE THEN ATTEMPTED TO REACH THIS CUSTOMER BY PHONE, UNSUCCESSFULLY, FOR TWO WEEKS. WE THEN MAILED OUR INVOICE ON 10/29/08. WE THEN FINALLY SPOKE TO THE CUSTOMER BY PHONE ON 11/11/08 AND FOUND THAT THE CUSTOMER WAS VERY UPSET. WE OFFERED HIM A LARGE DISCOUNT (30%) WHICH HE ACCEPTED AND STATED THAT HE WOULD PAY THE INVOICE UNDER THOSE TERMS. WE FINALLY RECEIVED PAYMENT 12/1/08, NEARLY 1.5 MONTHS AFTER THE WORK WAS COMPLETED. IMAGINE OUR SURPRISE WHEN THE MEMBER ARBITRARILY GAVE THEMSELVES AN ADDITIONAL 25% DISCOUNT ON THE CHECK THEY SENT IN. A LETTER ACCOMPANIED THE CHECK BASICALLY STATING "TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT". THE FINAL PAYMENT FOR THIS WORK REPRESENTED A DISCOUNT OF 55%. THE BOTTOM LINE HERE IS THAT THE CUSTOMER WAS COMPLETELY AWARE OF OUR TERMS OF SERVICE AT THE TIME WE BEGAN THE WORK. HE KNEW THAT WHAT HE HAD ASKED US TO DO COULD NOT BE COMPLETED IN THREE HOURS WITH ONLY TWO MEN. HE AGREED TO OUR TERMS, THEN WHEN PRESENTED WITH THE BILL, DECIDED TO NEGOTIATE AND STALL INSTEAD OF JUST PAYING OUR RIGHTFUL INVOICE. THEN WHEN HE FINALLY DID SEND PAYMENT, HE SHORTED THE BILL AN ADDITIONAL 25%. I GIVE THIS MEMBER AN "F" RATING."

AND THIS IS INSTILLED INTO CRAFTSMAN FROM THEIR FIRST DAY WITH US. WE STRIVE TO EXCEED OUR CUSTOMER'S EXPECTATIONS ON EACH AND EVERY JOB WE PERFORM. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR CHOOSING HANDYMAN MATTERS!"
