T & R Fence

I know this is a very late review, Im visiting my parents home, and noticed it was the T &R fence company that installed the fence back in 2006. Im surprised its 2022 and the fence's metal poles are still standing strong. I know the pickets will be needing a new fence. I just want to give a thumbs up for those fence made it to over 16 years.

They did everything they said they would do from start to finish. They set  metal poles for over  280 ft of new privacy fence. Allowed to set for 24 hrs and installed a complete new privacy fence in around thirteen hours. Why did I wait so long to review this company, because I wanted bad weather, high winds, rain complaints from the neighbors , to check the quality of work against the elements.
Do I have any ? NO..... NONE.... This group of professionals did a  great job. I would recommend T$R Fence to anyone who wants a great fence job.

This company sent over a young man on Feb. 28th, 2012.  This guy told me they would be using high quality wood (he said it was treated which would make it last longer). They were suppose to start work on Wednesday, however, no one showed up until a week later. I was not home when they began work and when I returned, I came home to a mess. There were cement bags all over my yard from where they left them laying. They were suppose to remove the old fence and put it to the curb which they didn't. The wood was warped from day 1 and boards were split/cracked. One of the posts has a large rotten piece in it. (The guy tried to tell me that would make the post stronger. How can rotting wood make something stronger?) I asked for it to be replaced and for the randomly placed spacers in the fence be moved to so they weren't just sticking out in the middle of the fence. None of these were fixed. The boards started popping off b/c they used a nail. I told the guy that I didn't want nails in it to begin with, I wanted wood screws. This new guy shows up with his young daughter to fix the fence. He tells me that no one uses wood screws in fences and he admitted to using low quality wood. He tells me if I want to have my fence fixed correctly then I will pay more to get it fixed. His solution to the boards coming down is to put more nails in them. He says that I need a wind brace on my gate to make it connect together. First, he came without my knowledge again (no call, no knock on the door, nothing). He nailed some cut 2x4s onto the existing gate (should add they are not cut straight nor nailed on straight). Then he put a large two-by-four in between the pieces of the gate and I can not open it any longer.

The company emailed the following email (which reads to me I have to withdraw my complaint if I want my fence fixed):

Member,

I am currently out of the country right now so I apologize for not being able to come out to look at the fence. If you could, please take photos for me and send them here to my email address. Please be advised, I was not able to view the items you sent to the BBB ending in .emz or .wmz. I need photos with descriptions and not videos. I would like to see the issues you have with the fence. If I feel the work is sub-standard and that we did not fulfill our contractual obligation, I will have the fence repaired on two conditions:

1) BBB complaint is withdrawn
2) Negative online reviews are removed and replaced with positive online reviews

If these conditions are satisfactory, please let me know and I will need a letter typed up from you stating that you promise to meet the above conditions upon completion of repairs. This letter must be signed and notarized.

**UPDATE**

Company agreed to fix a few of the issues with the fence. They were suppose to be here on a Friday, emailed to cancel and came on the next Monday. Posts are still not fixed and they want me to write a statement saying that I am satisfied with the work. 3 out of the 4 posts that they agreed to fix are still not attached to the 2x4s. When I emailed they said they would fix 1 of the 3 posts still not fixed.. When will this end? :( BUYER BEWARE!!!  Take your business some where else!!

**ANOTHER UPDATE***

Due to me posting this negative online review, I was told by the owner that they will not be fixing my fence and do not comment to them anymore.. Please note that I added an update AFTER it took them 4 days to respond to asking when they would come back and finish their repairs.. Seeing as how they didn't bother to contact me for 4 days, I think I am entitled to updating my reviews.

I found out that even as we were working on taking care of you and trying
to fix your fence, you have made two more untrue online reviews sullying our
name. I will not be back out. It seems a little preposterous that we are
fixing your fence over and above what was stated on the contract and you are
continueing to try to bash us. Shame on you. Please do not contact us

**Update - January 2, 2012**
After mediation with the BBB, the company agreed to come out and make final repairs. We arranged for them to come while we were home on January 4th but the company showed up on the 2nd without calling but this wasn't a problem since they just happened to catch us at home. The two men that came to make the repairs were polite and they cleaned up their mess when finished. There are no longer nails sticking out of the fence and the boards are fully attached now.

The company owner never requested permits for the construction but he said that he did. The crew removed the old patio extension and fence. They damaged some bricks on the house, and left old mortar on the porch. They destroyed the grass on a third of my backyard along with the roadside area and some of the front. I was told that they would clean up everything at the end of the project. The patio was poured and the retaining wall was put up. Dirt was poured into the retaining wall area. The poles were put in. Some of the poles were not put in at regular intervals, and no poles were placed in the corners. We were told that they never put poles in the corners, and that adjustments had to be made. When the crew did not show up for the first three days of the next week, I called the owner. He informed me that the sod was coming in a week late, and it would cost more if the sod had to be carried through the gates. So the crew would not come to put up the fence until the sod arrived. When the sod arrived, there wasn’t enough to cover the destroyed areas. I asked the landscaping supervisor about the rest of the sod. I was told that they would bring in leftovers from another job. When I called the fence construction owner, I was told that story wasn’t true. They just had to order more sod. However, it was true. An inferior sod was brought in to place in the bare areas, and some sod was thrown over existing grass. The sod was never rolled down. I had to water every night to get the sod to take root. A complete crew was only there on the first day to put up support boards for the fence. After that, the crew to install the fence consisted of two or three people a day. There were days when no one showed up. On the first day of picket installation, pine wood pickets were put up along the front and roadside of our property. I called the company owner to inform him that the pickets were not cedar. He sent his son out to remove the pickets, and different wood pickets were put up. The pickets were very dry, aged, and cracked in the center. Many of the pickets were warped. There were large gaps between the boards. I could see my neighbor’s house across the street. When I questioned the son and the owner about the pickets, I was told that those pickets were acceptable. The son told me that if they discarded the cracked pickets, they would go bankrupt. When I talked to the company owner, he told me that you wouldn’t see the cracks when the fence was stained. A large side gate had pickets so crooked that it looked as if a drunk had nailed the gate together. I called the owner, and his son showed up to rework the gate. This construction nightmare went on for about 3 or more weeks. The retaining wall allows seepage of the dirt. The fence is still not constructed properly. The crew never repaired the damaged brick or removed the old mortar from the patio. A pole from the old fence is still standing. I would never hire this company for any project. They are not professional or prompt. They will cause you nothing but stress.   I had another company come in to correct all of the problems with the fence as well as stain it.  I also had to go out to seal the retaining because of the seepage.

Definately the most bang for your buck! Quality fencing at a fabulous price. The crew members were polite and worked quickly. They even cleaned up after themselves. The job only took three days to complete!Originally we were unhappy with the drive through gate, however, Mr. Thomas was attentive, and had our gate fixed for us on the same day. I would definately recommend this company to others.
