I have no complaints on the actual work, everything went absolutely awesome. They made my yard look like a real yard again. It was just their punctuality I have a problem with. At first they seemed like they didn't want to do business with me. Almost like the guy who did the estimate had a chip on his shoulder. I am not sure ... I may have misread him because he had already had a long day, but thats what I got from our first and only actual meeeting. All the work was done while I was at work and after they were paid for services, I have not seen or heard from them since.

The story has a happy end, but I have to first give a backstory.
We had recently purchased a home, and, as part of the improvements we wanted to make on the property, we hired a contractor at considerable expense to do some earthwork. It was an unfortunate experience that I would wish on no one. When he was done, the property immediately around the house was little more than a barren landscape; mangled debris from scrub trees that we were left to deal with, and a large mound of caliche that had broken and splintered plant and tree roots, and rocky clumps jutting out everywhere. To say it was an ugly sight is an understatement.
Every time I looked out the window, my heart sank. We'd invested a lot of money in the project, and our budget was pretty much exhausted. But, we knew we needed to plant something to improve the view.
We were, needless to say, leery of hiring anyone. But, as we don't know what fast-growing, drought tolerant and freeze resistant plants thrive in caliche, we needed some professional guidance.
We'd heard positive comments about Maldonado Nursery and Landscape, so we took a leap of faith and called. We spoke to landscape designer Sylvia Coronado, explained the situation and emphasized that our budget was tight and firm. She arranged to come out later that day to take a look at the site and give us a free estimate.
She arrived on time (a good sign) and, within 10 minutes with her, it was clear we'd made the right call. She suggested several different plants for the berm that would give us the most bang for our buck, and she explained in detail why each plant was a viable option, She was knowledgeable, personable and helpful.
She and her crew arrived on time the next morning and began to install the plants we'd purchased. As the crew went about their work, Sylvia walked the rest of the property with us. She pointed out that there are plenty of small- and medium sized fan-shaped palms on the acreage that are out of line of sight of the house that could easily be replanted nearer the house. My husband and I agreed. She hand-selected a few of the palms and instructed her crew to dig them up and replant them.
When the crew was done, the berm was transformed from an eyesore to a thing of beauty. Not only did Sylvia manage to do what needed to be done within budget, she went the extra mile, in more ways than one. If everyone else at Maldonado Nursery and Landscape is even half as attentive and professional as Sylvia, the company is a winner.
When I look out the window now, I smile. Trust me, that speaks volumes.
