ESPECIALLY YOURS FLORIST

My co-worker decided to surprise his wife this Valentine's Day by having flowers delivered to her work. This would not seem like a new idea, but he has never done so in the 15 years they've been married. He heard about Especially Yours Florist from others, who must have always gone by and picked up their purchases, so he ordered a special bouquet. He gave the information for delivery, and since she works at a local elementary school, informed them when her work day ended in the afternoon. The flowers were not delivered as promised; but, later, while on their way out of town for a romantic supper, he received a phone call from the delivery driver, making arrangements with him to 'just leave it on the porch, we will get it when we get back home. It did not get delivered. The manager (owner?) later explained that they were really busy that day (--- really? Valentine's Day?) and she scheduled all the school delivery for the morning (we are in a small town). His order must have been pushed to the rear, and didn't get delivered with the rest; AND the driver got lost looking for the house; AND he was off work, so didn't deliver after (6?) pm. She offered to 'double the order'. Then what, deliver it NOT on Valentine's Day? That would be a surprise for his wife, since by now he has told her what had happened, and she was as upset with the florist for ruining a true surprise plan. They did finally reimburse him, after some conversation, and he had to visit the florist in person. As a business, you should know what your maximum limit for handling orders from customers. You know, its ok to say, "We just are not able to fill any more orders for delivery for that day, but we can have it ready for pick up." The secretaries at his office recommended 1-800-PRO-FLOWERS for the next time.
