I vas very disappointed in the service level and implied expertise demonstrated by the Summerfield staff during the initial scheduling of a beak and toe nail trim. My poor experience at Summerfield is related to their expertise with larger birds (blue & gold macaw), because I'm sure this animal hospital is good enough with dogs and cats, no arguing there. T

Their supposed "best bird handler" toweled the Sinbad (normal procedure) then proceeded to squeeze the birds head so tightly the skin tore just below her right eye and was bleeding (very unprofessional). They trimmed "Sinbads" beak then brought the bird back to me to settle her down at which time I went through the roof seeing her sitting there bleeding. Sinbad has been my companion since 1996, and we are as close as a person can get to a bird, so her pain was mine too.

Then they decided they really didn't have the expertise to handle such a large bird, and the person that normally handles big birds was unavailable. So after them rescheduling me twice, providing abusive (barbaric) treatment, and wasted a scheduled visit, they backed out and turned Sinbad away saying they couldn't proceed because they were "uncomfortable" handling the bird. Sinbad is a very docile, sweet, and friendly to strangers type bird under normal circumstances. BOTTOM LINE: Big bird owners, avoid this place like the plague. Their attitude was condescending and borderline rude, and my attitude at that point was not so good either in retrospect. I have pictures of Sinbad's bleeding face that I wished I knew how to post here, so my words will suffice in this case. A Truly Awful Experience with Summerfields Animal Hospital. A one star rating is one too many.

I moved into this area a few months ago and when I went to find a vet Summerfield had the overall best reviews online. I called one morning and was able to get in the same day. They were very kind and professional and I found their prices to be very reasonable for the area. (Vaccinations are just $4 each with the visit charge of $47).
I later booked them to board my two dogs over Labor day weekend and found their rates to be very good compared with other boarding facilities and even compared to hiring an individual.
We returned from the Labor day weekend with a new addition to our family and promptly got in to get checkup, shots and then scheduled a spay that went off very smoothly. Overall I'm very happy and feel like I've found our family vet.
Also, they are actually open on Sundays 2pm-10pm which I love!

Took my dog in because he was experiencing pain. Vet quickly determined the cause as a slipped disc. Prescribed medication and limited activity for 3 weeks. They were very gentle and professional. We are new to area and they worked us in with no appointment.

I have dogs all my life and had lots of experience with veterinarians. They appear to well qualified and have excellent bedside manner. They love their animals. I just think they gave high quality for pet care. They take the time with them and that was important. I have another dog that was the grand dog. He goes to a lot of specialist because he was adopted and lots of allergies issues and lot of issues. He was at a specialist. He has been to a dermatologist, allergist and ophthalmologist. This lady had a bedside manner and she looked like she did not like animals. Summerfields Animal Hospital was the only veterinarians here. Although it was a larger office I think they were hiring help and getting another veterinarian. They were wonderful. They have a low cost for new pups. They use the anesthesia which puts the dog in less risk. They were good. I never had a problem taking him in. Most veterinarians' visits make an advance visits. I got in within a day or so.

I have a Husky, and I go there for her veterinary care. Dr. Metzler is the doctor there. On the last visit, I didn't have to pay anything because it was a checkup. She was running and I guess she turned wrong and just tore the knee ligament, and they say usually when they do the first one, the second one will probably have to be replaced too, and a year and a half later in January of this year, she had a surgery on her knee which was for a torn ACL, and this was her second knee surgery. They are very caring, and the vet there is a very loving lady, and she has done so much for the animals. I would use them again in the future.
