I don't recommend Roberts Painting. My experience is detailed below. The contract Roberts Painting was contracted to paint three rooms, remove all popcorn ceilings, texture ceilings to match existing rooms, spackle and caulk to fill in drywall, do kitchen cabinet trim work, glaze kitchen cabinets, stain built-in bookshelves, stain ceiling beams, demo existing tile, and install stained concrete floors. -Work started on 6/5 with a target completion date of 6/13. -I fired Roberts Painting on 7/18, more than six weeks later, for failure to complete any of the contracted work. The good -Shane arrived on time to provide the initial estimate. -Shane comes across as a nice guy and he completed the following extra projects around the house to compensate for his lack of progress; fixed a leak, patched the ceiling, stained an extra area, painted the garage floor, cleaned the pool filter. The bad -Roberts Painting failed to protect any of the furniture, floors, personal belongings, ceilings, duct / vent covers, smoke detectors, etc. from debris, paint, dust or concrete stain. They left filth covering everything and ruined several personal belongings. They left paint on the grass and outdoor furniture, concrete stain on the deck and iron fence, ruined a garden hose and took a 100 foot extension cord. Piles of dust were left everywhere and tracked throughout the entire house (including rooms with carpet) and all over furniture, boxes, and personal belongings. -The doors to my home were frequently left open and unlocked when no one was present. On one occasion I returned home to find a door left open to the outside and the AC turned down to 67 degrees. -The owner, Shane Roberts, didn't employ professionals to do the work in my home; one man was an arborist, one woman was a housekeeper, and the two other men I encountered in the home were day laborers. None of the workers had worked with Shane for longer than one month. His guarantee that his painters have at least five years of experience wasn't true. -Roberts Painting refused to provide the name of the company with which they're bonded and insured so I could file a claim. They alleged that they were bonded and insured in person, on their website, via Redbeacon, and on Angie's List. They aren't. The owner recommended I take him to court instead. Condition of my home after I fired Roberts Painting -The home was left in despicable condition. -The contract stated the new ceiling texture would match the existing texture but it didn't (two workers applying texture told me it was their first time). -Ceilings got one coat of paint, not two as the contract called for. A single coat of paint wasn't sufficient to provide a uniform finish; ceilings looked dirty and uneven. -Popcorn wasn't fully scraped from ceilings and no patch work was done. The contract called for spackle and caulk to fill in drywall. -Cabinet woodwork wasn't complete. Cabinets were left partially glazed, giving them an unclean and unfinished appearance. -Wood stain was applied on the built-in bookshelves and six full-length ceiling beams, but none of the surrounding areas were protected and wood stain seeped all over the white walls, ceilings, and trim. No touch-up work was done. In order to correct this, significant labor cost was incurred in order to tape and protect all of the stained areas so the painted areas could be primed and re-painted with two coats of paint to cover the wood stain seepage. -The floors were unfinished; not level, not buffed smooth, not stained, not sealed, and not concrete (they were 100% quickcrete). Shane's profile states that he's skilled in stained concrete floors ? he isn't. All of his floor work had to be ripped out, hauled off, and re-done at significant additional expense. -Despite the floors not being complete, the baseboards were re-attached, which would all need to be re-done once the floor work was properly completed. -No touch-up work was completed; paint splatters and unfinished details were left throughout the home. -Three rooms were first painted the wrong color and had to be re-done. Roberts Painting re-painted with the right color, but with just one coat of paint. The contract called for two coats. In short: Three professional contractors gave me estimates to clean up and complete the work detailed above, and all three said the work needed to be 100% re-done. All three were shocked at how badly the work looked, how long it had taken, and the overall condition of the house. Summary The work of Roberts Painting was subpar, cheaply done, didn't meet contractual obligations, and their progress was incredibly slow. Multiple times each week, I would find one or two workers at the house, unable to work because they were waiting for Shane to deliver materials or instructions. (None of the people he employed had transportation of their own.) The professional contractor I hired to re-do and complete the work Roberts Painting started was finished in one week. The additional expense I incurred to correct the shoddy work of Roberts Painting was substantial. Unfortunately, I made partial payments in good faith to Roberts Painting totaling almost $10,000. They didn't deliver on any of their contracted work, but they still took all of my money. After I fired him, Shane said there was "more than enough money left over" to finish the work. I asked him to return the money to me but he refused. Decide for yourself if you're willing to risk working with this company. Don't be fooled like I was by their claims that they're bonded and insured, and definitely don't believe that their business "is based on Christian morals and ethics."
