They did about 10% of the job and took off with my money.

Contractor started hours in early part of the project to be 9:00 ish to 4:00 ish. In the beginning the dust and debris was kept to a minimum with plastic sheets being placed over door openings.Questions were answered "reasonably" and requests were addressed as verbally agreed.
After a few weeks it was; get here at 10:00, go to lunch at 11:30, get back at 2:00, and load up tools and leave. He was bringing his son to help, his neighbor, and a flooring guy to do tile? When he wouldn't come to work he wouldn't let his guys come either because "none of my guys are on site unless I am there". While most of the time he would drop the guys off and then go "run errands". So he was not here anyway.
Don't get me wrong, his son and his contract labor were excellent workers and did good work. I would give them great marks. But this Danny guy, he does bad work when he does work but just trying to get him to show up is a bigger effort than I have the patience for. Paint on my floor, trim paint on the walls, badly cut tile that is dangerous. Danny is a piece of work.
Contract stated that after the initial deposit of over $3,000.00 an additional $3,000.00 plus would be due close to completion of the first project with another $3,000.00 plus due close to completion of second project, and final payment due at completion of all projects. This was my bad for being a senior citizen, single lady, sucker.
On with the issues, after the first week the Contractor came to me stating that the first draw was due. He had come highly recommended, he was a Pastor, and I knew he needed to make payroll so I gave him a check. I was a sucker. Every week thereafter it was I need more money, more money, more money, more money till the only amount left was the final payment. That is when he finally just quit showing up.
I have a bathroom that is not finished, 2 out of 8 windows installed and look like a drunkard did it, 2 that are not installed, 3 where he measured the wrong size, and 1 that he says the store messed up. Also one window left with plywood and a hot Texas summer coming up. I have paid for windows that I can't get because of a privacy act, I have 4 brand new worthless windows because they are the wrong size, and a beautiful view out of my picture window of a piece of plywood
Now, because of the bathroom, I cannot finish filing the claim with my insurance since the job it is not complete which means I cannot get the rest of my money from the Insurance company.
I have tried on many occasions to discuss these issues with my contractor till I finally told him that if he didn't fix these issues we would have to let a Judge decide what should happen. That day he never came back from lunch, the next he sent me a test saying he had "Pastor" duties and the next I had to call him at 10:00 to see what his plans for the day were and when I
point blank asked him if he was going to come finish the job he said "Probably". Probably? What kind of answer is that? Well I waited till 3:00 then called him again and he would not answer his phone which has been a pattern for him when he is upset or confronted.
His slogan is "Your Contractor for life. It is for life because the impression of shoddy work and taking your money will be hard to forget over my life. Did I mention that the guy is a pastor?
