We had begun to replace the joints in our concrete ourselves with an epoxy process (which was the most awful DIY experience I have ever had) when we were given a short notice move to Canada. We had removed the rotten wood already, so the concrete was unstable and needed to have the space for the expansion joints filled with something. I called Slab Gasket directly, although their site directs you to dealers and they agreed to come out and give me an estimate. I have a lot of concrete - a 3 car garage that is 2 lanes wide from a behind the house detached garage. We had managed to fill the joints in the pool deck and the front walk ourselves, but still needed several hundred feet of slab gasket. Slab Gasket is also available for the homeowner to install directly, sold in rolls of 50 ft, but we hired Slab Gasket to install. The owner George, charged me for the exact footage, and in some areas where the width of the space was different than the rest, used a different sized gasket without my having to buy a 50 ft roll of it. Because we had already removed the rotten wooden expansion joints/concrete molds, we were given a discount on labor cost. He also offered to fill in the gap between the walk and the front porch for free as well as a couple of random lengths that he hadn't measured during the estimate. Work took place over 2 days. Most of the houses in the neighborhood have grass growing in their joints or rotten pieces of wood sticking up, as the wood used for molds was not pressure treated for outdoor applications. Most of the neighbors around have been getting letters from the HOA about grass in their driveways. Now our driveway has grey slab gasket joints, no grass and looks great after nearly two years. I rated Slab Gasket as a B on price, because it was pretty expensive, but it is a really good product, a local invention, comes in several colors and offers DIY or professional installation. The other methods of DIY joint replacement were messy and tedious and probably also costly. Had the builder spent a little more money on pressure treated molds, we would likely be looking at replacement joints after 25 yrs instead of 12-14 yrs. I highly recommend this product, whether you install it yourself or hire an installer. Their web page will direct you to contractors and DIY purchase, or maybe if you're lucky, the owner himself will install for you.
Description of Work: Replaced the rotting wood joints between the concrete slabs on our driveway, pool deck and sidewalk with their proprietary product, Slab Gasket.
