The technician did the work very well - no issues with that. However, he arrived very late, despite having provided a two-hour window in the first place. I had to call twice to find out where he was. Finally, when I pointed this out to the owner and asked for a reduction in price, he said "If we were late then you could have canceled the appointment! That's what most people do" That is very poor service, and shows a complete lack of professionalism. Also, there's no point canceling the appointment when I've already waited five hours for a technician to show up.
Response from Rain Day Irrigation

We do our best in handling our challenges accordingly, because we strive on customer satisfaction we consider suggestions and opinions from our customers to point us in the right direction. We are realistic to the fact that it will be impossible to meet everyone's expectations in handling these particular disagreements. Thank you for your honest opinions on our performance. Prospero"

Rain Day installed the drainage, sprinkler system and landscaping at our new house at 8307 Maple Ct., Bellaire, TX 77401. Their work was extremely shoddy and insufficient across the board and they continue to be unwilling to stand behind their work, choosing to stand behind a fraud builder who has been indicted for felony tampering, had a previous deferred adjudication for check forgery, and is currently under investigation by the Harris County District Attorney and the Bellaire Police Department. 1. Drainage: The system that was installed at our home was not installed properly, does not function properly, and does not meet City of Bellaire requirements. We have been living in the home for 18 months without a Certificate of Occupancy due to the drainage issues. The problems include missing underground pipes, improperly tying in the roof and gutter system to the drainage, missing catch basins, and not installing Focal Point in the detention ponds. Our street is a designated Low Impact Community in Harris County, and the Focal Point requirement was included in our drainage plan and mandated by the City of Bellaire and the Harris County Flood Control District. The requirement were clearly communicated to the contractor and then ignored. We have paid out of pocket to correct the Focal Point issue and are still left with a swamp of a back yard that does not drain properly. 2. Sprinklers: The system significant deficiencies including areas of the lawn and flower beds that are not covered heads that do not function, and improper heights for the heads. One man and a minor child did most of the work. 3. Landscaping: We were forced to purchase all of our own plants and only had limited help from this contractor, and the plants that were installed were not planted properly and have all had to be replaced. We have had to replace the back yard sod due to the drainage issues, and are now faced with replacing the sod again. Our yard was never graded properly and bank sand was used on a detention pond that immediately eroded and began clogging the underground drainage system. We had to self-fund this repair by installing a rock retaining wall. We were overcharged for this work, and have made attempts at claims on the contractor’s and home builder’s liability insurance, but they continue to deny our claims due to exclusions in the policy. We understand that the contractor currently has no liability coverage. We were left with no choice but to file a lawsuit in Harris County District Court.
Response from Rain Day Irrigation

"Thank you [Member Name Removed] for taking the time to submit such an extensive and detailed review. This situation is unfortunate for all parties involved. Being a subcontractor for your builder puts us in a situation where this is out of our hands because of your legal proceedings between you both. We understand your frustrations and inconveniences that you are currently experiencing. We hope that these legal proceedings come to a resolution in a timely manor so the process continues to move forward in making things right. -Prospero"

I set up an appointment for Friday at four my husband took time off of work so that we could both be home as to not be disrespectful of the contractors time however we got an email 45 minutes till our appointment time that he would not be able to make it and would be two hours late two hours and 40 minutes later we called the contractor for him to say he was stuck in traffic really busy that he could head that way. We asked why no call he replied just got busy. He offered to still show up however long it will take them to get there we said we felt uncomfortable with that it appeared that he hung up on the conversation prematurely
Response from Rain Day Irrigation

"Thank you for taking time out of your day to share your experience. Your honesty is very much appreciated as well. Due to constant changes in our schedules we try our best to communicate as effectively as possible in addition to accommodate scheduling. In your case seems like we were not able to sync to original plan so we agreed not to move forward with our meeting in exploring potential work. We apologize for any inconveniences and we will continue to strive on excellent customer satisfaction in learning from our faults. Best, Prospero"

I didn't use them but nothing bad. They had a special price for Angie's List members and I think it was 4 zones. If I needed something done I would give them an opportunity to give me a quote. I got 3 or 4 quotes.

I'm satisfied with the final product, the backfill of the land, and the willingness of the contractor to work with me to make some changes, but there were difficulties along the way. A few recommendations: 1. Obtaining/requiring a sketched layout as a minimum. I could not get this from them which created some rework during execution. 2. Make sure you know where valve boxes, water sensor, and backflow preventer will be located and what they look like. I had figured two of these would be completely underground, but they are actually eye-sores that were not mentioned would be visible. The workers are not too aesthetically inclined, so they will not place these in the best locations. See recommendation #1 again. 3. Where they plan on crossing the cable line, you may want to find and expose it yourself, or their fast digging will lead to a cut line. 4. Don't leave your garage door open while they work... apparently this is an invitation for them to use your tools.

Very responsive. I was going on a business trip only to discover my lawn guys had busted 2 sprinkler heads. I reached out to a few irrigation folks and Rainy Day came the next day to fix and fine tune my sprinklers. Very polite and punctual.

I'm a bit torn on this company. We had them come out several weeks ago to fix a broken sprinkler. They were affordable, but we had some delays in them being able to give us a time they could actually come out. A week later we decided to call them to come out to give us an estimate for installing drainage in our backyard. They asked us to text them with an address and our availability for an estimate. We did that right away. Five days later they texted us back saying "Let's try to shoot for tomorrow before 1:30". I said great and stayed home to wait for them the next day. They never showed. They never called to say "sorry we're going to be late" or "sorry we're not going to make it, can we reschedule?" Just nothing. No word. If the job was too far for them (we're in Pearland) they could have said that and just turned down the job. I think they are priced well and have some good workers, but I just don't think they are professional enough in their responsiveness and customer service. If it wasn't for their price on the first job they did for us, I would have given them a D or F overall.

The technician was on time, he fixed every thing we told him was wrong - controller hadn't worked on over 2 yrs, a head appeared to be missing, a station had lost pressure, and we felt some of the heads were sinking. He spent 5 hrs, fixed every single thing including a pipe split by the phone company, and left absolutely no mess. The price was amazing for the work he did (only 1 person).

I called Rain Day in March of 2016 in preparation for a new irrigation install. Felipe came out the same day to look at the job, run water pressure tests, etc. We were having a pool built at the time and wanted to wait on irrigation until the pool and landscaping was completed. Felipe had no issues providing an estimate and said it was good until we were ready for install. We ended up choosing Rain Day after receiving multiple estimates. They were not the cheapest, definitely not the most expensive, but we felt most comfortable working with Felipe and his team. Felipe seems to have a lot of knowledge in irrigation systems and the price was within our expected budget. We were sent a detailed estimate on approximate head counts, line sizing, controller information, etc. The installation included 15 zones (our house is on 3/4 acre), Rain Bird equipment, rain sensor, backflow, 2 year warranty, and more for $5300. The pool build was delayed a few times due to rain. I contacted Felipe on May 24th to let him know we were ready for irrigation, which was a couple months after I first spoke to him. His crew was out to our house on May 26th and completed the project in 2 days time. In the end, I was very impressed with the install and you couldn't even tell the yard was dug up to install an irrigation system. All grass was laid back in place, appearing undisturbed. They were even able to place heads behind existing hedges up against the house, which I still don't understand how they got back there. Please give Felipe or his son a call if you're looking to install an irrigation system. I would definitely use again!
