Pep Boys

Be cautious with this Pep Boys. Like all auto service providers, you should get a DETAILED estimate BEFORE the work is done and review it CAREFULLY. I live in Virginia and came down to help out with Hurricane Harvey clean up. The shocks on my truck needed replacing and I wanted to have them replaced and the wheels balanced before I made the long trip back to Virginia. They were harried with the crush of business due to Harvey but worked me in. I paid dearly for it. The bottom line is I was charged $782 for a job that should have cost $440. For example, they charged me $383.92 for the four shocks. I later looked up the price on the Pep Boys web site and the retail price for the exact same shocks is $239.96 (NOT including a $60 available rebate). They charged $107 labor for an "access time" charge due to rust. This is BS. Anybody knows that shocks are easy to change (done it numerous times myself) and even the most severe rust on a modern vehicle requires no additional time (and the rust on my truck underbody is superficial and minor compared with many). They also added in a warranty charge of $39 that was not explained, pointed out or asked for. They also added in a $35 shop fee which is another made up fee just to jack up the price. The bottom line is they knew I was in a bind and took advantage of me. So.....BE Cautious! Also the wheels were more out of balance (more vibration) than before they "balanced" them. The tech told me he had trouble getting one of them to balance and it was indeed true.

It was a good experience. Very good quality, customer service, and they would help you find a good deal.

I use Pep Boys on Fry Rd in Katy, Texas, it is an auto shop. They also do a good job. My last experience was about 2 months ago and I have used them several times before. They are convenient. They give a lot of hours to their work. They do a good job. I have used them several times. I would grade them an 'A' all the way down, for all the categories.

It was pretty good. The brakes still squeaked a little bit afterwards. He did catch what I said, "Go ahead and put the most inexpensive option on there and get it done." They did it in a timely manner. They were really good about communicating with people. The vehicle I had worked on was a Saab and a lot of people kind of avoid working on those just because they can be a mess. He was knowledgeable. Any answers he didn't have, he was able to call some of his connections that he knew that had worked very regularly on Saab just to make sure everything was A okay. They were great on price.
