Description of Work: We had an oral contract to refinish my kitchen cabinets for $1100, to include installation of new hardware and repair a stuck cabinet, add a small partition under the sink, and to refinish our front door for an additional charge of $300. He sanded & restained the cabinets, he used drop cloths on the floor, but he did not seal off the kitchen or hang drop cloths from the ceiling when he did the sealer and polyurethane. The polyurethane from motorized sprayer overspray solidified into dust, and it got into our HVAC system, even though the system was shut off during this time, and went throughout the house. We had the doors open at the time of spraying. We had to change the filters several times. I had to rewash all the dishes that were in other rooms. There was immense fallout from the dust all over the house. The polyurethane atomized into particles, and they kept becoming resuspended in the air. We had to vacuum and clean curtains in other rooms. After the cabinets were sprayed, on a Friday night, he asked if he could be payed, and he'd return later to refinish the front door. He came back the next week, and I told him that the finish on the cabinets was rough, and had bubbles and areas of high and low sheen. I contacted Minwax, who made the finish, and they said the product should not be sprayed, but brushed on, otherwise separation and these results can occur. He had gone against the manufacturer's instructions. He ruined some of the walls around the cabinets and did not touch those up as he had promised. We will now have to have our cabinets heavily sanded to be refinished.
