Storage to Storage move Staff unaware of insurance options but provided good pricing options. Aurora, owner clarified insurance coverage beyond the state approved .60/lb. Booked a fixed price move. Christine answered my inquiries before move date & Aurora called to confirm crew arrival time. Jose, Montel & Obie arrived on time & no one introduced themselves as the crew chief, however the way Jose was taking charge I anticipated he was the leader. Discussed documentation, addl insurance & I presented a 10% Angies List coupon to Jose, which he told me to provide at job completion. The crew seemed professional & began reviewing the storage units. I told them my main concerns were fragile/breakable items in boxes, labeled accordingly, so careful review & placement was necessary & three large furniture items that needed to be loaded first, so could be the last pieces placed in storage. Provided the guys bottled water & when asked about lunch said "we will get something later” I was happy to pay for their lunch & get as needed. The guys knew I booked this move on 14k lbs, but they underestimated the number of items each unit contained. Jose commented they would be done by 2-3 pm but knew it would be more like 6-7 pm.., a total of 8-10 hours, why I booked a fixed price move. Had my own moving blankets so did not need to keep any of theirs. Jose indicated the truck should have 70 blankets & he would perform a final count at job end. He said no paper pads were on the truck, but saw some later? The guys seemed to take good care of my goods but Montel was less careful & had an attitude They did scoot furniture instead of picking up to move across a floor. Load into the 1st new storage unit went well, Obie is an excellent stacker but he did bang on boxes to get them to fit in a space & I consistently reminded him of the "fragile" labels.. We left a little room in front of the first unit, in the event all did not fit in the second unit. Was encouraged when load to second storage unit started as it was still light outside & were unloading the truck containing fewer items.. However I noticed the guys were getting tired, working a bit slower & not taking care of my goods, being sloppy. Began to get dark outside so I asked if we should stop and start again the next day. To them not an option & they would complete project tonight regardless of time.. Unfortunately from this point, this move went downhill fast & did not end well. The second storage unit did not get loaded well & there was not enough room for the three pieces of furniture that required to be in front. Obie argued with me on what pieces those were. Did he think I did not know my own furniture? They grew increasingly sloppy with unloading & placing unnecessary items on furniture. Obviously they didn't care about scratches or dents & items sat outside instead of bringing them in the halls of the facility. This would have assisted the stacker in knowing what was left to place in unit. Once I made comments about the efficiency of loading the second unit & careless handling of my goods.. Jose apologized & said they would be more careful, however Obie began to YELL at me, became very irate & got louder and more abusive. He ignored my suggestions on placing items in storage & moving some items to the first unit. Very unprofessional... At that point Obie identified himself as the "crew chief" & indicated he was calling Aurora, company owner. Could not believe what was happening as the move went ok until now... however I was the customer & believe my concerns should have been heard & addressed. He argued about moving blankets & wanted me to purchase some of theirs, I declined & said we could use cushions to place in between some of the furniture. At this point, with him yelling at me & complaining to the owner, I just wanted to finish, but he continued to waste everyone's time & within minutes walked off the job! The other two guys stopped working & did not know what to do.. I kept insisting they continue to move the remaining items in & place them as best as possible. I spoke with Aurora on the phone, she apologized for Obie's behavior & was concerned about how he was acting, no matter the circumstances. She indicated she was coming to the storage unit to address the issue. At this point most of the items were off the second truck but not everything. When Aurora arrived she agreed the second unit was not stacked or loaded efficiently & wanted to rearrange it. It was 8:30 pm & I would not allow her to move any items that had been placed into storage.. I told her, Jose & Montel(Obie was nowhere to be found..) that I wanted the remaining pieces loaded in either unit & be done,so I could pay her & leave. She started to get angry at me for not letting her redo the unit arrangement & said they were leaving with the remaining items that had been loaded off the truck & would be back to finish tomorrow. I insisted they finish as coming back was no longer an option for me & were too close to finishing, maybe 10 pieces to load & could be placed in either storage unit. Then Aurora says "write me a check for the total amount & we will load the remaining items into storage” She indicated I could not be trusted & afraid if they finished I would not pay them? NEVER gave her any indication of not paying but did say payment was contingent on job completion & all goods were in storage.. Isn't that how it works? She kept insisting I write her a check prior to them finishing and didn’t care we were wasting time. Her so called "crew chief" walked off the job & my household goods were still in the hall, outside & on the truck.. I kept insisting the remaining two guys could finish putting the few items into the storage units, we would be done & payment made.. She ignored my requests, so who was untrustworthy? In a twisted turn, she told the guys to load the remaining items back on the truck & they were leaving.. She told me when I brought her check to the office they would come back & load the remaining items into storage.. UNBELIEVABLE!!!.. we could have been finished over an hour ago & payment made, but she continued to insist I pay her prior to job completion? Now who was untrustworthy? I called 911 as they exited facility as police were needed. For no valid reason, owner was going to hold my items hostage until I paid her, when job was incomplete.. Katy police arrived at the storage & based on information provided they indicated the moving trucks had been stopped by an officer & they refused to return with my items until I paid them! I explained to the officer at the storage facility with me that I NEVER gave them any indication I would not pay & once all items were in storage, payment made per contract. The moving trucks returned escorted by police, they finally unloaded my remaining items as I originally instructed & I wrote a check since the job was complete. Upon inspection, they left one of my items & blankets on the truck which were retrieved by the police. Aurora did not return with the trucks, she left her crew to deal with the police & me.. When I presented my Angie's List coupon, she initially declined to accept for no reason, but finally decided to apply to final payment. A contract existed & as long as they completed the work, they would be paid! However, I was called a liar, could not state my opinion on how my goods were handled or loaded into storage & my items were essentially stolen by Katy Movers & held hostage until the police intervened.. This experience was beyond belief the guys & owner's attitude & professionalism changed dramatically when I asked them to be more careful with my goods & did not allow them to rearrange the storage unit at such a late hour, that they packed so inefficiently! I wish you good luck if you decide to hire Katy Movers, but be warned their employees do not know policies, you can’t be concerned about how they handle yo
