It went perfectly.  Curtis really knows his business, came up with some great suggestions on how to do things in a smarter way that would be less costly to us and did a perfect job.  He was easy to work with, and his work is of a very high standard.  His rates are reasonable,  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone and we will call him again.

This was the first time I have used a company from Angies list and it went great!  I had 3 quotes and went with this company- he was the mid-range pricing between the three companies.  I called, he was quick to return my call and set appt. for quote.  When I was ready we agreed to do the work on a Saturday.  He was on time at 8 am and had everything to do the job, unfortunately I did not. As the floor was being installed it was clear I did not get enough laminate flooring. I read my own measurements wrong when purchasing materials.  He installed all that I had and agreed to return the next day, Sunday, to finish the job once I picked up everything I still needed.  It saved me money to get the materials myself.  Again, he was on time when he came back on Sunday.  I was also pleased with how well they cleaned up at the end of each day. He installed a wood laminate floor, base boards, caulked and removed/replaced a ceiling fan.  He was very thorough and my new home office came out great!  I had already painted the room and baseboards, prepped the floor and done as much as I could to save money before I hired anyone.  I will be calling him again for my next room!

The subcontracted electrician was VERY slow and not punctual. I purchased a specific HDTV electrical box that I wanted in my bedroom.  He argued about the whole process of installing the HDTV outlets.  After I told him that he either installed what I purchased or I would hire someone else so he finally installed it.  It took him two days to complete the projects.  When the Best Buy Geek Squad came to install our new system, I had to call the electrician back over because he did the wiring wrong.
FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCE.

All the jobs have gone very well.  Although, we have one door that he sanded and painted that continues to rust, but we know now that it is because of our dog.  She scratches on that particular area of the door.  Curtis sanded and painted it twice for us before we realized that it was caused from the dog and would continue to be a problem.  He said he could replace the door with an aluminum or install a kick plate and that should solve that problem.

I contacted Curtis through his website which offered an estimate if you sent a description of the work.  I sent him my 'honey do' list.  The reply I got was "Can you send address and phone # to set up an appointment?"...that was it.  His explanation for the abbreviated response was that he thought he was responding to a client he was fairly familiar/casual with.  It didn't occur to me until later that if that were true, he wouldn't have needed her address.  Anyway, he estimated 4 hours at a rate of $55 / hour.
When he came he had another guy with him.  I showed them both all of the projects and thought it odd that Curtis didn't take any notes.  Curtis left to get a couple of things from the hardware store and the other guy got started on mounting the TV.  They had estimated 4 hours, but only allotted 3 hours.  So, they left to head to another job without completing the work, but scheduled another visit to complete the tasks.  All they finished on this visit was to repair the hole in the wall, mount the flat screen TV and change out some electrical outlets for RFIs (which I had purchased a while back and never used).
The second visit Curtis came with the same guy.  The first job they tackled was repairing the gates.  However, Curtis just kept chatting with me while watching the other guy.  Eventually, I went inside and they worked together to fix the gates...later Curtis left the other guy outside to finish the gates while he worked on some of the stuff inside.  Again, they they had another job schedule after mine and left without finishing.  He was also out of receipts and said he would email me a receipt, which he still hasn't done.
I've also requested a couple of estimates.  Two of the jobs he has yet to provide estimates for.  He did provide an estimate for replacing the bad wood on the exterior of the house and paint.  However, he has only provided a quote for the entire job.  He still has not provided the detailed quote I requested.  It's been 3 weeks since the last visit.
The work he did complete was high quality.  However, I won't use him again as he seems to drag out the work, and I just don't have the time to deal with it.
Response from Houston Handy Husband
"I'm sorry that this customer had a bad experience with my company,I will try to work on improving on it .Im the owner of a growing business and I try to make the customer happy while training new workers, it's a bit of a juggling act at times, but I always try to improve myself and the business . There's times when more parts are needed to complete a job then originally expected or jobs are added to the original bid and adjustments must be made. I understand that not everyone has been in the construction trade for 20yrs. And can have the same understanding of all the logistics that involved in what may seem to a simple job. In the future will go the extra mile and explain what's happening in detail . As the owner of Houston Handy Husband I don't do every job myself ,but I make sure that the customer gets the highest quality of workmanship ."

It went well overall, they are a new business in the area, but they had very good prices and you can tell they know what they are doing.  It was nice to work with someone that was clear and they make scheduling appointments easy to do and their pricing was better than what we had researched.

Overall it went very well, Curtis (the owner), has a fine attention to detail and made sure that everything was done to our satisfaction.  We love the look of the aluminum fence and it matches what we had before.  What we really liked is that instead of replacing everything, they only replaced what needed to be replaced and gave us the pro's and con's of everything we were considering.  We saved a lot of money and couldn't be more pleased with the way the fence came out.  I wasn't aware of aluminum fencing before, but after doing some research, it really works out well and I am looking forward to not having to replace my fence again after only a few short years.
