Workers came early, on the day we agreed on, and quickly tore off the old shingles. As we were leaving, we noticed the work truck said "Reyes Roofing" on it and not Superior One. At this point we suspected Superior One was using a subcontractor. We were not sure if Reyes Roofing was insured or if their work would be the same quality as we were promised. We did notice they did not bring two sheets of plywood as mentioned by the Superior One representative.
The work was finished by the end of the day. The workers left the yard very clean, though in the trailer containing the old shingles, we noticed several beer cans, which had us a bit concerned.
After we inspected the roof, we noticed exposed nail heads and shingles that had been cut crooked. There was also a patch of some sort with four nails straight through the top of a piece of shingle on the ridge and glue or caulking over the top of the four nails. We also noticed a soft sunken in spot in the plywood over the garage area. They shingled over this soft spot and did not replace the plywood. They did replace the turbine vents, which we were very happy about, as well as, the vent stack pipes.
We notified Superior One a few times of the poor workmanship. The representative came and inspected the roof and agreed the workmanship was poor. He notified his subcontractor, who sent a worker out to fix some of the issues. Some exposed nails were pulled out and nail holes caulked. Some exposed nails were caulked over. The crooked cuts in the shingles remain, however.
I have a video of the work that was done, should it be needed for future reference, however, I am aware that I'm unable to post here.
Overall, we were disappointed in the workmanship that was done by Superior One's subcontractor. Also, we were disappointed that Superior One did not provide the quality they promised verbally, as well as in the documentation they provided. We were somewhat pleased with the communication between the Superior One representative and believe he tried to resolve any issues we had, after the work was done. After this experience, however, we will not be using their services in the future.
However, Superior One was not the low bidder for the job. The price shown here shouldn't necessarily put you off, as the home in question has a number of unique features which make it more expensive to repair, regardless of the contractor. Because they came recommended by my insurance company, with which I have a long relationship, and whose opinion I trust; and because I would still be only out of pocket for a modest deductible, I chose them for the job.
The larger issue is that throughout the process, I was troubled that I was consistently finding problems with the quality of their work, and by their proposed solutions to those problems, which I felt were often substandard. Now, their painting and flashing replacement were all first-rate. I say that as a long-time homeowner with fairly extensive experience with roofing and general contractors, so I'm not unfamiliar with the highlights and bumps that can happen in big home repair projects.
But it simply took far more of my oversight and corrective suggestions to get to a satisfactory conclusion to the roofing and some siding repair parts of this job, than it had for other home repair projects with which I've been involved in the past, and I'm still not fully convinced that parts of that job were done 100% properly. In fact, nearly a month after the completion of the job, I'm still awaiting an inspection from the supplier of one of the main materials used in the roofing repair, without which my warranty is not in full effect. If that inspection shows the roof to have been installed correctly, I may consider revising this rating.
In conclusion, if you don't mind staying intimately involved in the day-to-day details and oversight of the job, I can enthusiastically recommend Superior One. However, if you typically prefer to let contracting professionals do their jobs with less of your over-their-shoulder supervision, be aware you may need to up your game with Superior One.
to USAA. Within 2 weeks it was approved and I scheduled the install date. I talked with Chris and he was very professional and did everything promised plus more. Without using a pressure sell technique he recommended and used higher quality products that made my roof look outstanding and is the best looking in the neighborhood. The value of their service and quality of products are definitely worth every penny. Also, they had crew of 7+ workers that finished my entire roof in one day. I have seen others in my neighborhood taking about 2+ days to finish the work. I went to work came home and had a new roof. You can?t beat that! Not to mention my yard is spotless. There are no nails, shingles or tarp anywhere. Also, they are very customer service oriented and want to ensure you are 100% completely satisfied. I noticed two of my circular vent caps didn?t get replaced and when I notified Chris he had someone come out the next day to replace them with no hassle. He also noticed some overspray from the paint on the shingles and had them replaced. I?m so happy I went with Superior One Roofing and I?ll definitely use them again. The last thing I wanted to comment on is their great warranty they offer at a minimal price. I highly recommend it.
The estimate from the insurance company had a few items missing that needed to be replaced. Superior One Roofing took care of all the communication with the insurance company to resolve the issues with the missing items. I feel that high quality products were used to replace my roof. I also feel they provided quality work. The roof was replaced when they said they would do the work and for the amount they said they would do the roof replacement for. The people from Superior One Roofing I worked with treated me in a respectful and professional manner.
