The streaming movies rarely worked and would freeze and rebuffer every 2-10 minutes so i quit using that feature in the first 6 months. New releases took up to a year or so to show up and some then would have no availability date, the long wait ones, who knows. Can not discuss what happened to competitors, but they apparently wanted more revenue, so they split the dvd and streaming services with separate pricing. Which caused some confusion and other problems for customers. In my case I was lied to by the cust svc rep when I asked if there would be an additional charge for BlueRay dvds in this new scheme. The cust svc rep told me as part of this split,new deal etc. that no I would not have to pay any extra for BlueRay! So I stayed on with dvd only service. Next bill cycle saw the extra $2.00 charge. After numerous calls to cust svc in which they denied that or were apathetic, I spoke to some mgr at netflix corporate who was sympathetic about this contract misrepresentation but only offered 2 months free BlueRay service. Most of their movies are not BlueRay but you still pay. The rumors of throttling appear to be true as i tried 3 dvds out at a time for two months. They came slower and less reliably than previous plan of 1at a time. Have received numerous worn out, cracked, scratched and otherwise unplayable. One looked like it had been scrubbed with a Brillo Pad. One movie of a series i have just received the 4th consecutive defective replacement copy of a defective dvd! Thats 5 in a row, but wait, I began marking them and the same 2 return to me. They do not want to hear that their dvd checking machine has a problem. Will quit wasting money on them this month. OK for two years now it is not worth the money anymore, or the hassle. Guessing on work date as am so displeased i did not keep any paperwork-they were frustrating to deal with, dvd turn around was slow and we even have one of their secret distribution centers in Abq.
Description of Work: Originally received dvds by mail and movies by streaming video at a set price. Then after went to dvd by mail only plan, misrepresented by their cust svc rep.

Excellent customer service and response time to problems.
Description of Work: I have been a Netflix customer for two years now. They provide excellent service. I get 3 discs per month, and only a few times were they damaged. A quick click and the new disc comes along. A couple of times I had trouble with the connections via cable, but I called and within 5 minutes they fixed the problem and explain it clearly and very polite. I get it now on my lap tops anywhere, anytime.

We had Netflix for several years. At first we had it where you would get the DVD in the mail. Then, later on when my granddaughter would be here in the summer, you can stream them right through the TV or the video game console. I agreed to that and a couple of months later when we saw that that wasn't too hard to deal with I went in online and I canceled the CDs that come to the house. Then my granddaughter left a few months later and I went in to cancel that because she is no longer here and no longer watching videos. Now it told me that it had been taken care of and I would get confirmation. I never did. I got sidewayed and there were some problems in the family. Almost a year went by and my husband went, do you know that you are still getting charged for Netflix. I got on the phone and I talked to someone there in accounting. They only gave me one month credit. I think that is wrong. I was not receiving any. I wasn't streaming any. They could look on their records and see that I wasn't getting any movies. They could see that. I called them a couple of months ago to try and get this straightened out. I thought it was wrong and they should give me more credit. If they had given me 4 or 6 months credit I would have been fine but they only gave me one which was like a slap in the face. They encourage you to go online to take care of business but then they don't follow through. I tell everyone I know not to sign up with Netflix because if you ever want to leave they may not cut you off and keep taking money out of your bank account.

They are excellent. I love them. The price says it all. You don't always get what you are looking for, but there is always something there to entertain you. They get older shows too. It fascinates me. They do not claim to be what they are not. It is easy to use. You can get it on your TV or computer.

I'm wondering if perhaps sending out defective DVDs is their way of forcing the customer to sign up for online streaming instead of getting physical DVDs. It does not appear that they are taking care of their DVDs or replacing them when they find they are damaged.
Description of Work: We've been with Netflix for several years and although they were every good at first, they have changed drastically and have really gone downhill. Most of the DVDs they send out now are scratched, dirty, and many are unplayable. This leaves you with the choice of paying a local DVD rental business another fee to rent that movie or return it to Netflix for a replacement, thus losing valuable time waiting for the replacement to come. It's most frustrating to get halfway through a movie, only to have it freeze and no amount of cleaning will get it to run. Your evening entertainment has then been ruined compliments of Netflix.

I absolutely love Netflix!! I joined in 2003 when I moved to a house more in the country, thinking if I got snowed in I could at least count on movies coming in the mail and not having to drive out for them, or worry about late fees if I couldn't get out to return them. The price has gone up over the years, but what price hasn't? For some people $21 a month might seem high, but access to thousands of hours of TV (shows that I missed first time around, like Prison Break, 24, Mad Men, all available from the pilot on), and as many movies instantly to my TV without leaving the house... and then the DVDs that come in the mail are simply a walk to my mailbox - well worth the price in my book. I do hate that some new releases are held for two weeks, but that's a marketing strategy by the distributors, not Netflix, so I won't hold that against them. The postal service contributes a lot to the overall good experience also. I mail a movie one afternoon, and usually at 7 a.m. the next morning I have an email that Netflix has received it, a couple hours later I know what movie I'll be getting the next day... it's usually less than 48-hour turnaround (except weekends or holidays of course). There are times when a movie is being released on Tuesday, and if I get a movie back to them on Monday, that new release is sent out so it's actually in my mailbox on the day of release. When a DVD is broken or won't play and I contact Netflix, they immediately send out a replacement, not waiting for the damaged one to be returned; and if the next movie in my queue is coming from a different distribution center and might take an extra day or so, Netflix will usually send a bonus movie at no charge because I'm having to wait. Contacting Netflix is easy, and their employees are friendly and helpful. I can't imagine ever doing without my Netflix fix!!
Description of Work: Netflix provides instant streaming of movies and TV shows, and I have two DVD rentals at a time.

We have had Netflix for a couple of years. The interface could be better I guess. For example, separating my video choices from others is not possible. You cannot search for an actor's name, only movie titles. It is never clear which way one should scroll to get from Instant Queue to, say, Thrillers. Playback quality is good, except on my laptop the audio volume has to be up all the way for it to be audible. Still needs lot more titles. Some time back, there were no titles starring Harrison Ford. They have many titles that made the 'Also ran" category in the box office, thankfully this includes many good movies that are not populist in nature.

Signed up for Netflix hoping to find relatively new movies. Not much offered in that regard. Most movies are very old. Also had to buy an Apple TV box to make it possible to get Netflix on my TV which is not internet ready, and that equipment is a nuisance to use....must use two different remotes because cable provider remote won't work for changing to a different HMDI. Not sure it's worth $8/month, but I still have it hoping it will improve.
Description of Work: Don't expect very many relatively new movies. Most offered are several years old.

I am happy with them. When they got rid of the DVD or changed the pricing I was a little upset, but rarely used that portion of the service. I know my Aunt and Uncle rarely stream video, so it works well both ways. I would recommend trying it out, as it is very useful.
Description of Work: I have used Netflix for a couple years. It is a great way to view tv shows you haven't seen or catch up on ones you missed. There are also movies, not necessarily great ones, but there's a lot. For about 9.00 a month I believe. I like it.

I have canceled my membership, which is too bad, because they won't get me back. I've spent a lot of money with them over the years, and I would have remained a content, loyal customer had they not gotten greedy.
Description of Work: We've been long users of Netflix.We used to love getting DVDs in the mail, and we also loved the streaming, especially through our Wii. It was such a good plan (Around $9/month)But then Netflix got greedy and started charging for the DVD by mail service AND the streaming service (which is slow and often doesn't work, plus they have poor selection.)Save your money and find what you want online for free.

Approximately 7 of every 10 DVD's we receive are defective. We wipe them befor using them but that does not always fix their problem. Netflix Quality Assurance is lacking in their inspection and distribution of DVD rentals to their customers. We have received discs that are visibly cracked. The majority of the discs prove defective when we are using them, about half way through the movie the disc sticks. A message appears on the screen "check the disc." Nothing we do will cause it to continue playing. how can a company that offers a DVD movie service stay in business with service like this? They rely on customers to report disc problems to them AFTER the customer has rented the disc and is attempting to watch it. Why should a customer be placed in the position of watching a movie only to learn the disc is defective? Why should a customer wait for a second disc to continue watching the movie? This is ridiculous. Yes, they offer to send a replacement but why should a customer be forced to do QA&A for them? Movie rentals are available thorugh other sources.

One of my favorite movies is Best in Show. I have only watched it about 5 times on netflix . Well, it gets to be a week before Westminster and i go to turn on the movie...it is gone. It is still not available. So I call and they said their contract with the studio has changed. Well, when was it changed? Who was the studio? Was the contract changed midstream if so, when? No answers. Told the person working there that Neflix is losing another customer..ME. How can one make decisions with knowledge about contract changes? The movie Grease..what gives with that...not available.. Netflix is liked a closed government...only releases tidbits. I have a mac mini with a Time Capsule. It is taking forever to stream a video from Netlflix. It is always stopping...waits a few minutest and then starts again. It took 2.30 hours to watch Dirty Dancing instead of the normal 1,47.
Description of Work: simple. I have Netflix installed on my Apple TV'. Have been using about 6 months.

Their service is fantastic. I have never had a problem with their streaming service on Comcast internet. The video has never lagged or pixelated. I just with they had a larger library for streaming. I hope they continue to expand their streaming service collection.

Hit or miss, but in terms of watching instantly, mostly miss. I've been a member since January 2006 through today, but I will not deal with the disappointment and frustration of their poor service with watch instantly. DVDs through the mail were always top notch, quick turnaround, very few issues. Watching instantly has been a headache since it started. Their system goes down all the time, reliability is horrible. Many of the issues only last a minute or two, but in the middle of a movie it's a pain in the butt. But more annoying is their website. When you attempt to report a problem watching instantly, they ALWAYS send you to Sony (for Playstation users) or Microsoft (for computer watchers) EVEN WHEN THEY KNOW THE PROBLEM IS ON THEIR END! I consider flat out lying to customers extremely dishonest and simply bad business. In addition, they have the only website with no contact information other than a phone number (no physical address, no email), which is useless unless you want to spend 10 minutes on hold to speak with someone who can't help anyway. I wasted the time tonight during one of their outages to wait 12 minutes on the phone to ask why the website does not simply indicate they are having a problem, but instead instructed me to call Sony and Microsoft only to be told by the airhead operator that "those are basically standard responses" . Well my standard response for companies like this is to walk away.

They are amazingly prompt with turn-around time with DVDs. Two nights ago, we had a defective disc and I called the customer service about 10:30 at night. The representative was extremely courteous and helpful. They sent me another disc and another one I had in my request queue. I have had nothing but good experience with them.
Description of Work: I've used NetFlix for three or four years. I use a monthly program for one movie at a time.

I return a disc on day 1, they receive it on day 2 and ship the next in my queue on day 2, I receive the new disc on day 3. Like clockwork

We like this service better than Blockbuster, or other retail movie rentals, as there is no fee, I don't have to hurry and drop off a movie, etc...
Description of Work: We get 3 discs per month, separated into 3 queues for the different age groups in our home. We now use the Instant Play feature more often than not. As for the discs, it takes approximately 4 days to get another disc in our queue once it is sent in. We have only had 2 problems with discs in the past, and Netflix has promptly replaced them (in some instances before we get the broken/scratched disc in the mail). Overall, a great experience that I have gifted to others as well.

I have been a loyal subscriber of Netflix for the last 4+ years and understand the reason for the credit card information is that not all people are honest so those of us who need to be understanding that just because a company requires a cc, doesn't make them a scam. Also most people will forget that they must cancel the gift...I did, but I was glad that I had forgotten. I can put the service on hold when I want, change the amount of dvd's that I get at a time. I can even select the play some of them on my computer, while still getting them in the mail. I love it!!!!
