The clasp on my favorite James Avery bracelet had broken and I took it to Monte Perkins Jewelry. They did it quickly and it was a nice surprise when I picked it up when I realized it cost well below what an entire new clasp would have cost. I feel they were more than fair and honest in their dealings with me.

I had purchased from another store an inexpensive wristwatch with an expansion band. The watch band turned out to be too large and several of the expansion links needed to be removed, if possible. I brought the watch in to Monte Perkins -- he measured how many links were excess, took the watch back to his workshop, and returned a few minutes later with it perfectly resized. When I asked the price, he cheerfully said that there was no charge ... clearly the job was so minor to him that he considered charging for it to be unreasonable.

Of course, I would never expect any given work to be free. To the contrary, I expect to pay for services rendered, and I never mind doing so. But this isn't the first time I've benefitted not only from Mr. Perkins' old-school quality craftsmanship and professionalism, but also from his generous and gentlemanly disinclination to charge more than necessary and reasonable for his time and effort. I would use his services again, and recommend him to anyone else, without any hesitation.

I brought the gold chain in to Monte Perkins Jewelry, expecting to need to have the clasp replaced. The work was finished in a week, and I was very pleasantly surprised to learn that they had managed to replace the tiny spring in the clasp rather than the clasp itself -- saving about two-thirds of the total cost with the same quality finished product.
Their work is done with professionalism and craftsmanship that can only be called old-fashioned in the best possible sense. It goes with their courteous and friendly service. It's gratifying to know that such places still exist, and I heartily recommend them for jewelry repair.
