I have had Earthlink as my ISP for over 15 years and have no reason to complain about the service.

I told them to cancel my order, refund my money and give me the info to ship back their equipment. This took almost 2 hours to accomplish as they tried to tell me how awesome $14.95 for the first three months was (and by the way, my first month had already been charged...for service I had NEVER received), and then had the nerve to haggle with me over refunding me the cost of shipping me the equipment (that was sent via UPS and as such was not something he could do since UPS was the actual shipper - I LOST it at this point) which he finally agreed to do after speaking with his manager. Then when I tried to confirm they were refunding both the shipping and the $14.95 for services NOT rendered he argued that I would still be charged the $14.95 since "he had to charge me something". We went around the barn on that one several times and he would not budge so I told him I would dispute it with my credit card and hung up. I have done exactly that. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. With customer service like this they will not be in business long.
Description of Work: They were supposed to set me up for DSL internet service. I called them on 5/17/12 to set up service for my new house which I would move into on 6/6/12. At first things seemed fine though the person I spoke to seemed a little rushed. Then I got a text from Verizon saying they would have a tech out to install the line (apparently Verizon does all the outside work for Earthlink) on 5/25. At that time it wasn't my house yet, so I called Verizon to reschedule - they struggled to find my record. I called Earthlink to reschedule and it was 45 minutes of ring around the call center before I got my appointment changed to 6/6/12 like I origionally asked for. 6/6/12 it's raining heavily but the DISH Network guy manages to do his bit. Verizon shows up to tell me they cannot climb the pole in the rain - Okay. They say they will be back 6/7 or 6/8 to do the work. 6/10 they still had not come back so I call them. My order has been cancelled. I called Earthlink, who insisted for the next 40 minutes that I did not need Verizon at all as he attempted to get my DSL to work remotely. He treated me like an incompetent fool and would not deviate from his obvious script. Finally, he realized that there was indeed a problem with the line and I did need Verizon to come out after all. He scheduled with Verizon and they came out the same day and fixed the external problem. As the Verizon guy was leaving he told me he had done all he could and was sorry. Earthlink called 5 minutes later to tell me Verizon had been to my house and fixed my exterior line (thanks for the info captain obvious) and that the problem was with the internal wiring of my house. I asked when they would be sending someone to get that taken care of and my service finally set up (5 days late). Turns out, they don't do that. I would have to find someone to fix the wiring and then they could get my service going. They suggested the phone company.....which is Verizon. All of this was told to me in the same condescending, clearly scripted way they had spoken to me earlier (different person, same attitude). It was like they were doing me a favor.

This was a terrible experience. You are actually calling a toll free number that rings overseas somewhere. They have you speaking to a foreigner that you can hardly understand and who hardly understands you. He had no patience whatsoever. He could not help me. I had to take my computer to a local repair place to solve it. I still use them for internet, but I will not use the tech support again.
Description of Work: I called technical support because I could not get my email account to send and receive.
