A Stern Warning for Prospective Drees Homebuyers: Consider Your Investment Carefully! As a retired military and federal government professional, my decision to purchase a Drees home was made with the expectation of finding a permanent, "forever" residence. However, based on our experience, I cannot, in good faith, endorse or recommend Drees Homes to any prospective buyer. To do so would be deeply irresponsible given the profound issues we've encountered. Our Drees home has been officially deemed unlivable due to widespread toxic mold, a direct consequence of significant construction negligence. Over an eight-month period, Drees Homes engaged incompetent remediation workers who, across three separate attempts, failed to properly address the mold contamination in our home. As of June 2025, despite these three failed remediation efforts, our home remains contaminated with toxic mold. This is not an isolated incident. We have communicated with at least ten other Drees homeowners within two sections of the Meridiana subdivision, all of whom have either experienced or are currently battling mold issues. Furthermore, I have spoken with Drees homeowners in Austin subdivisions who invested over one million dollars in their properties, only to find them uninhabitable due to mold. In our case, Drees replaced HVAC units and added spray foam to the attic, but critically, they never gutted the contaminated walls and ceilings where the mold originated and proliferated. Our family suffers from severe mold allergies, and we are experiencing numerous debilitating symptoms from this toxic exposure. Adding to our concerns, an investigation initiated by me with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) has unearthed troubling evidence. This investigation revealed that companies paid by Drees have issued fraudulent clearance letters, falsely claiming our home was free of elevated mold levels. In another alarming instance, a Dallas-based company, also a TDLR mold advisory board member, issued a six-page report to Drees stating our home was mold-free and required no remediation. However, this company never physically visited our home to conduct an investigation or perform required mold testing, a mandatory protocol for TDLR-licensed Mold Consultants. We have learned in the process that we cannot trust any company paid by the builder. We have learned to pay independent testing companies, in order to confirm the results given to the builder from companies they have paid. If you have a mold issues, we recommend Texas Mold Inspectors; they provide detailed mold testing with integrity. Despite presenting Drees with independent mold testing reports confirming the continued presence of mold and formally requesting that they engage a new, competent remediation company, they are now exhibiting significant delays and a lack of action. Compounding these issues, we have recently discovered that our property also has foundation problems. This serves as a critical warning to potential buyers: proceed with extreme caution and consider alternative builders. You have been warned.

wet floor completely replaced due to a terrible tile job (which oWorking with Dress was nothing short of a nightmare. They do have a good reputation but are in WAY over their heads in Frisco Texas!! Their subcontractors are SUBPAR to say the least. Our home failed at least 40% of city inspections the first time around causing massive delays. We had to have half of the brick pulled off of the house as it was crooked?even to an untrained eye - it was glaring how off the lines were.  Things as simple as the newell posts at the bottom of the stairs, the subcontractor installed two completely different sizes!! One was 12 inches shorter than the other one?someone whose job it is to install stairs thought that that was a well done and complete job??!! The painters were terrible, the one cabinet we requested be custom made was completely messed up and now looks like patchwork. We have had to have our shower floor tile completely replaced due to a terrible tile job (which was only done because we asked for it to be done- Drees would have had no issue closing on the home with it in the crooked patchwork shape it was in!)
Toward the end of our construction with Drees, I went back into the sales office to let them know we were thinking bout pulling out of our contract as we had had more than enough and Tony Carr, their sales rep, said he thought it was a great idea to cancel our contract because they didn't need unhappy customers like us. No "how can we make this better" just "yes, let's cancel your contract!" Horrifying!
The ONLY good thing Drees has going for it is that they are very good at fixing all the errors they do make! Their warranty is excellent and they are prompt in managing the majority of the issues they created. The only draw back to that its they send the same subpar subcontractors back to fix their original mistakes and they honestly do not do a great job unless you are breathing down their necks.

Everywhere we inquired (realtors, locals) we were told that Drees was a reputable builder. In the North Dallas area, there are so very many builders to choose from, and we spent three months trying to identify the best builder and location, as we wanted a new home. Ideally, we wanted a spec home that most closely matched our requirements.

From our first encounters with the sales team to the closing and warranty walk-thru, we have been very pleased. The quality of the materials used and the workmanship are surprisingly good for a spec home. When dealing with anyone from this builder, you can tell that customer service is a major priority to this company. In fact, I had some contractors stop in yesterday that were surprised at some of the things the builder has done for us outside of what would be required by the warranty. These contractors told me that this builder is the only one in the area that provides this level of customer service after closing, and they told me they work for homeowners who have purchased from just about every builder in the DFW area. That just confirmed our feeling that we purchased from a quality builder.

We bought a Drees home. It was not the cheapest, but the workmanship, quality, attention to detail and people at Drees are absolutely the best. Matt the builder is very helpful and patient. I have not seen other homes in our development that have the 'custom quality' both inside and out.

Very pleased with the final product. Very smooth process, with ability to customize much more than most builders. A couple of things were overlooked (paid for a light switch we didn't get, etc) but overall excellent quality. The salesperson and construction manager were absolutely the best! The pricing was higher than it should have been, and we had issues with one of their corporate heads who refused to discount despite the housing market decline; however, we completed the process despite this bad taste. After-sale warranty has been extremely good with the help of the construction manager on site. I would definitely recommend Drees to others looking to build a home.

They did not put full insulation in our attic. We have a 2-story, but a section of it is one story and they did not add insulation to that area. Had we not called to have radian interior added to the attic, we never would have known. Their pick up work has failed and they won't come back to fix that.

Dree's responds well and promptly. I have a good quality home. It is comfortable and well constructed. I am impressed that they maintain contact and repair for a year after the work was done.

I HAVE SINCE CONTACTED THEM TWICE AND MY ATTORNEY HAS SENT THEM A LETTER. THEY RESPONDED AFTER MY FIRST LETTER AND SAID THAT THEY WOULD NOT REFUND THE MONEY BECAUSE IT PAID FOR THEIR EXPENSES.
