The owner of Russell Exteriors and Roofs, Steve, was not a good communicator and would not reply to phone calls or text messages promptly. The roof was replaced (and the quality was good), however the gutters took almost a month to be completed. I was told that the exterior cover for the ventilation duct was replaced but upon inspection in our attic it was clear that it had not been and that they just painted it to match the other painted roof vents. Where I really am disappointed - Steve promised a referral fee for any new clients I sent his way. I would be paid $200 for the 1st client and $300 if there were subsequent clients. My neighbors needed a roof as well and I referred them. Steve paid me the $200 referral fee. Then I referred Steve to a friend with a very large home and she had her roof replaced, but Steve TO THIS DAY has NOT paid me for this referral - and it occurred in the summer of 2010. His excuse was that a couple of clients hadn't paid him for jobs. However my friend's insurance company HAD paid him for her job, so my referral fee should have come from that specific job. I could tell that I was getting the brush-off from Steve. Below is the text messaging that occurred between us starting in August 2010: TEXT MESSAGING BETWEEN PAMELA PERDUE & STEVE RUSSELL 8/20/10 (ME) Home til 2:30... Can you please come by? 8/25/10 (Steve) I have two bif checks comin soon. Just paid lots out. I will pay u then. (ME) When is THEN, because I think you?ll agree this is overdue?So Monday? or week after that? (NO REPLY) 9/3/10 (ME) Home today... Think you can honor the referral fee of $300 today? (Steve) I have two roofs homeowners haven?t paid me on. I will honor. (ME) Please do. The two should not be related since you HAVE been paid by the customer I referred you to. I expect this to be honored by the 15th. Good luck getting the others to pay in the meantime. 9/14/10 (ME) Home all day, leave 16th. Will you be by? Home all day tomorrow too. Are you available? (NO REPLY) 10/23/10 (ME) Hi Steve, its been over a month. Can you give me the referral fee? Home til Monday night. - Pam (NO REPLY) 11/3/10 (ME) It?s been many many months now. Any luck honoring our agreement? Home all week - Pam (NO REPLY) As you can see, Steve chose not to reply. I have seen Steve once since this exchange of emails - around Christmas time. Coincidentally, he showed up at another friend's house in Pflugerville to give a roofing estimate as I was leaving her home. I recognized him right away and confronted him regarding the still-pending referral fee. He said he couldn't pay me the fee because of the same excuse as before. I then suggested that we drive to the nearest HEB and he could give me a $300 VISA gift card - that way he would be able to charge it using credit (assuming he did not have the capital in his company to pay the measly $300 cash). He refused and said he could not pay me. - AT THIS POINT IT'S BEEN 6 MONTHS SINCE HE, HIMSELF, WAS PAID BY HER INSURANCE COMPANY FOR THE JOB THAT I REFERRED TO HIM. I told him that what he was doing wasn't fair and that I'd be reporting him to the BBB (which I did). I do not recommend this roofer based on his character and his lying about what he did and did not replace on my roof. This man is NOT a man of his word and I am disgusted that he continues to do business in the Pflugerville/Hutto/Round Rock areas.
Description of Work: Following Hail Damage here in Central Texas, a door-to-door roofing contractor, Steve Russell of Russell Exteriors and Roofs, approached me about getting my roof replaced. My entire roof and most of my gutters qualified for replacement covered by my home owner's insurance. The roof was replaced in a timely manner but the gutters were not. The exterior cover for the ventilation duct was supposed to be replaced, it was not.
