Initially went into store to get a rough estimate of flooring and installation cost. Was told about $2.50 per square foot for glue down, and .50 per square foot for carpet tear out. Also told $300 to $600 for floor leveling. Paid $25 fee (could be offset against labor if we used the store) to have person come out and measure. First appointment was missed, and I was not called. I called the field person and was told that the store never told him about the appointment. I rescheduled, and he showed up on time. Scott, who came to my house was very professional. He told me about the process. Said he would email me a labor cost, plus a materials list, and the store would send me a cost estimate for the materials. The charge for the glue down installation and carpet tear-out came in as originally told by the store (about $3.00 per foot). However, there were many other charges, the largest being a $2,700 charge for GLUE, which came to $1.44 per sqare foot. Just for glue. Also a $295 charge for delivery. Why would they not disclose such a high charge just for glue at the outset? I was banking on about $3.00 for foot for installation, and the glue increases that by almost 50%. I also found out that they charge up to $65 per room to move the furniture. The only way to avoid this charge would be to be at home for the 3 to 4 day installation period and move stuff whenever they needed it. I wish the store had been more upfront about these costs, especially the glue, delivery costs, and costs to move furniture, when I initially talked to them. To their credit, all of this was disclosed in the estimate process, so all I was out was the $25 measuring fee. I think they should disclose "typical" per foot installation costs to cover these significant items.
