Michael and his crew were out promptly and got the job done quickly. The job site was spic and span when they left.

Met with an employee from Affordable Tree Service to go over what was needed, and received the quote. We were told they wouldn't be able to do the job until the first week of August. They called back a week later to say they could do it that week. We were told they would leave the invoice and if everything was fine, then call them and arrange payment. If there was something more that needed to be done, then let them know and they'd be back out to fix it first since the work was being performed when nobody was home. The work was 85-90% done and was fine. There were just a few more limbs that needed to come off. We let them know and Martin the owner came out on Saturday to take a look. We showed him the few spots, he said it was no problem at all and he'd have a crew out Monday to take care of it because it was less than an hour of work. We went ahead and gave him the check for the job. That's when everything went downhill.
The following Monday nobody showed up and no work was performed. We called Tuesday to see when someone would be out or to get an update since nobody showed up or called. We were told we'd get a call back later that day. End of Tuesday, nobody has shown up to complete the work, and nobody has called back. We call Wednesday, and let the nice lady on the phone know that we were calling back because nobody had called us back on Tuesday to give us any update on this, and nobody has been out yet to complete the work. We were told again that the owner will call us back. End of the day Wednesday, nobody has shown up, nobody has called back. Same story on Thursday, no show, no call, and at this point the check has cleared so the company has already been fully paid. Friday we leave a message letting them know that we have not received any call backs, the work hasn't been performed, and if someone does not contact us by Saturday afternoon to get this resolved, we would need to escalate this matter. That evening at 5pm, the owner (Martin) leaves a yelling rude and belligerent voicemail screaming that "You don't call me and make threats, i have been shorthanded and we will finish the trimming today or Monday, then lose my number and don't call me again!". I have NEVER seen such unprofessional behavior in my life. First off, a vendor's staffing issues are not my concern, they quote a job and a time frame, getting it done is their problem. Second, the work was pretty decent at the beginning. Had the owner or anyone else simply returned a phone call, advised us of what was going on, and given us a new ETA (that they'd hopefully keep), then all would have been well. I could have heard "It'll be a week from Monday because I've got some people out right now." and it would have been fine. When a vendor you have never worked with before cashes a check, doesn't complete the work on the day they say they will, then doesn't return any phone calls for a week, there is 0 expectation that as a customer I'm just going to not say anything and quietly wait for them to show up some day and finish it. That trust hasn't been established. Decent work, but they need to work on their communication skills, their temper, and their attitude. The work was completed the following Monday after the rude message, butI would never recommend anyone who behaves this way to a friend or family member. Issues completing a job can always come up, but there is never an excuse for not making a phone call to update the customer, and definitely NEVER an excuse to yell and be belligerent when the failure to complete the job and communicate is their failure.

The owner came out and gave me an estimate. Once we agreed on what needed to be done and the cost they were on site and cutting within an hour. I was fortunate enough that he had an immediate slot available. They did a fabulous job. The trees look great and they cleaned up everything. The back yard looks cleaner than when they started. I will be using this service again. Can't say enough good things. I strongly recommend affordable Tree Service!

They arrived with 8 people all with different length trimming poles. When they were done, the trees looked terrific and like trees instead of balloons on stick. Everything was all cleaned up and you couldn't tell they were even there. The deep root feeding is supposed to happen on Monday because it rained so much they didn't want the fertilizer to get washed away.

We had originally wanted to schedule for an earlier date but Martin insisted we wait until late October/early November. (Better for the trees.) He came on the date we had scheduled and performed the job while we were at work. The yard was neat and clean when we got home. Trimming the trees just opened up the yard. We were pleased with the results.

I can't say enough good things about affordable trees. We have used this family owned business for several years. They are reliable, professional and do an excellent job. They prune and shape trees to perfection and clean up and resulting debris. If needed they treat for fungus and mold. They are prompt, pleasant and courteous on the phone. They call back promptly and execute their schedules reliably. Judy the office manager is a gem.

I have used Affordable Tree Service in the past for tree fertilization and tree trimming at my old house (SugarLand area) I moved to Spring, TX purchasing a nine year old home that has two oak trees planted fairly closely to the house. I could tell the trees had not been fertilized because they have lots small roots coming up around them (I never had that problem with the well fertilized oak tree at my old house). I called on Thursday and Martin performed the service on Friday. He let me know a root barrier would not be needed for the home, but may be needed in a few years for the driveway.
Besides doing a good job, the great thing about Affordable is that they don't require you to be home at the time of service. Our dealings have always been done over the phone, so I don't have to miss work. An estimate for the cost of fertilization is provided when scheduling an appointment and tree trimming/removal estimates are given after they assess the job. After the work is complete they leave a statement on the door so I can call their office and make payment via a credit card. I recently called another company hoping to find someone a little less expensive (sorry, I can't remember their name), but they required the home owner be on the premises and they stated their fertilization specialist would call me to schedule an appointment, but I never heard back from them. Lesson learned - I'll stick with Affordable Tree Service who is accomodating and prompt.

Scheduled a week in advance and had to call back several times just to confirm scheduling and Martin missed us on the schedule the first time. So, he scheduled it for the following week (that's a total of two weeks out for service from my first phone call). I was very happy with the deep root feeding and the fungicide application but not as happy with calling the office and getting little to no answers as to the scheduling. I then called this week to see how long it would take them, and the cost, to come back out to trim a few branches that were broken in a recent storm - only one branch remains in the tree - the other two fell and we just need the areas where they broke flush cut. I called on a Monday and didn't have a call back yet on Tuesday - 24 hrs after the first call. I called the office again....could not get a specific answer out of the woman that answers the phone - Martins mother - as to when someone might call me. She did however offer to quote me a rate this time - after she asked again where I was located (did not confirm my address, just asked for a general area) - and that rate was $300 to flush cut two areas on the tree and remove one small branch that was still hanging. Really? Seemed like I was given a rate just for being on the far west side of town and not close to their office. She told me with gas prices and all they had to charge me $300 to do the little bit of work needed. I finally got hold of Martin and he said he would do it for $100 after hearing what needed to be done and that his mother was trained to do that when she answered the phone - I guess to screen calls to see how far the trip would be and then quote a price based on that info? He said he would call me by 6:00 p.m. that evening to schedule it. Never heard from him and haven't heard from him today yet. I am not going to pursue a company so that I can give them my business. This is what I had to do the first time around and I tried giving them the benefit of the doubt. I will call around and try another company and hopefully find one that is happily helpful over the phone, returns calls and can schedule the work to be done on time! Had heard about the company on Michael Berry's show so I tried them and unfortunately was not satisfied with their service.

The trimming went very well, and we are planning to have them come back next week to do some additional work for us. They are very professional and the owner of the company comes out initially to check out the property and the trees and then he gives you an estimate. He then sets up an appointment that fits our schedule for the tree trimming people to come back and do the work. You don't have to even be there when they do it. We have been so pleased with their knowledge and the type of work that they do. They are recommended by a local garden talk show and there is another company that is saying that they are also recommended by that same show, and they are not, so don't be fooled by that. If Martin's mommy Judy doesn't answer the phone, then you called the wrong place. We will continue to use this service for all of the tree work in the future.

Martin was on time for the estimate. It being a very busy season for tree trimmers in addition to a major holiday we were not surprised that we were given a service date about two weeks out. Other times that we have used this service we have been able to get service quicker. It did not create any problems though.
The trimmers arrived on time. They quickly took down the smaller tree and worked much of the day to remove the second larger tree. Their work was very good and they cleanly and completely stump ground the trees. They did a good job cleaning up the debris and site afterwards.
After they were done and I was inspecting their work the young man speaking with me pointed out a broken limb on a pine tree that had obviously broken in the storm the week before. It was in a place that when it fell it would have definitely hit one of our parked cars. I asked them if they could remove it and they agreed even though they were completely packed up to leave. They added on a fee for and quot;emergency removaland quot; of that branch. Seeing as it was way too high for us to get to and it poised a definite danger to our vehicles it was worth it for me to have them take it down although I would have much rather they had told me about it earlier in the day when they first saw it.

Overall they did great. Martin (the owner) came out when the crew started and went over how everything was to be done. The only thing is they were suppose to grind the two stumps but their machine did not fit thru my gate. I have a standard size gate. I then had to hire a separate company to grind the 2 stumps.

I got four estimates for the work and he was not the highest one. The highest was 1200 dollars and they charged me only 974 dollars. They were a good company and I would recommend them to anyone. They were very reliable. The only thing I didn't like was that they rescheduled my appointment without letting me know. I called them just to make sure that they are coming and they said they can't make it today or tomorrow, so, we will have to reschedule it day after tomorrow. However, the workers were good and they did a good job.

I've used this company in the past with mixed results. The last time the front yard was great but not so for one of the trees in the back yard. I referred them to a neighbor and he wasn't happy with them; they missed feeding his trees and he couldn't get them to come back out until after several calls. They did a great job this time on trimming my trees except they left a huge dead branch in one tree. Anyone can miss a branch right? I didn't notice the branch until they had driven away with my check paid in full. I've called the company twice so far (the day they were here and a week later) to come back and remove this branch and I haven't heard anything from them.

The workmen were very prompt each day. The job took 2 1/2 days to complete. Care was taken to protect our structures and yard "stuff" such as the swing set etc. The owner of the company came out the first day and made sure that the job foreman knew what trees were being taken down and they discussed the shaping of the remaining large live oak trees. I was very pleased with the shape of the trees after the trimming and the way they cleaned them out. The crew offered to make us a pile of mulch to use but we declined. They also would have left the oak wood for firewood if we had requested it.

Dec 2008
The crew showed up as promised. They worked with the electrician as they cut down the tree. They cut the wood into smaller sections and added it to my neighbor's firewood pile. They cleaned up the brush. It was important to me to have the tree cut down while the electrical power was turned off. I was deeply concerned about any tree crew that would be working that close to the power line. Even though Affordable told me they were fully scheduled for a couple of weeks out, they were able to make some adjustments and provided a crew on the same day the electricians were working at my house. I really appreciate that.

They did a great job and I have no complaints at all. They cleaned up everything that they had cut down and there was quite a bit of it. I thought the price was a little high, but what we had for comparison I suppose it was reasonable. There was a slight confrontation with a neighbor, so the owner came out to talk to him. We really appreciated that. He took a personal hand in seeing that it all got done.
