My husband and I were redoing the floor in a bedroom in order to convert it from an office to a baby?s bedroom. We bought wood laminate flooring, and our original intent was to install it ourselves. We ripped out the carpet and proceeded to put self-leveling compound on the floor to level it. Unfortunately, we messed up the leveling job to the point that we felt we needed to hire a professional to salvage the job (there was a large lump in the floor that ruined the leveling).
Victor (the owner) came out the day after I called him and I was grateful that he agreed to come give an estimate for our small project. After looking at our floor he said that he thought the lump could be sanded down (he said he had a heavy-duty sander) and then install the floor with no problem. He said that this would kick up a ton of dust but that they would clean it off when they were done. The estimate was $150 for the leveling and $350 for the floor installation plus a 7% Angie?s List discount (totaling $465). We felt this was quite fair and scheduled him to come out on a Saturday (he thought the job could be done in one day).
When Victor showed up on Saturday, he said that he did not have his heavy-duty sander with him. It apparently had been misplaced at another job. He instead had another, smaller sander with him that he used to try to sand down the lump. The sanding ended up taking all day, so he said that he would have to come back the next day to install the floor; he said he would be there by 9-9:30am. The next day (Sunday) we waited until 10:30 and no one showed up. Finally he called and said that the guy who was supposed to come install the floor was not going to be able to come. Victor was unable to make it himself that day so he said he would be here the following day (Monday). During this time, we noticed that the lump was still very prominent and we were worried about the floor going down over what was still such a large lump. While I will never know if he could have gotten the lump all the way down with the right sanding equipment, it seems that he could have rented one and tried.
Victor came on Monday afternoon and chiseled down the lump some more by hand. It was still there, but he started to install the floor because he wanted to see how it would lay over the lump. He put about half of it in. When we walked on it, it felt pretty lumpy and we were quite worried about the floor going in over such a large lump. He said he was going to have to come back the next day to finish.
On Tuesday afternoon, Victor came and said that we had 3 options: (1) Re-level floor up to level of the lump ($175 extra), (2) jackhammer our leveling job out and start over ($100 extra), or (3) install the floor over the lump, which he said would not affect the integrity of the floor. We decided to see if he could chisel down the floor a little more and then go ahead and install the flooring. We had already spent enough time and money that, if the floor itself would not be ruined by doing this, then we would be OK with a little lump remaining.
So Victor installed the floor over the lump that still remained. After they finished, they quickly ran a vacuum cleaner over the walls but the room was still covered in a thick layer of dust that I later spent many hours cleaning up. After he left I noticed that he had put trim over one of the sides of the door jamb but not the other. I called and asked him to come back and fix it, and he said he would come out in the next few days. I tried contacting Victor for 3 days and got no reply. Eventually, we just pulled off the trim from the door jamb ourselves (thinking this would look better anyway) and realized why he had put trim over the door jamb: there was a huge hole in the flooring that he had used the trim to cover up. At this point, we also noticed that two of the boards in the room (one right where the lump was and one not anywhere close to the lump by the door of the room) were not fitting properly. The boards are the snap-in wood laminate boards and the two boards are basically starting to pop out from the boards next to them. The floor also feels quite rickety in many places, unlike the other bedroom that we installed wood laminate flooring in which squeaks a little but has never felt like the boards are moving under you.
At this point, we are just hoping that the floor will last and that we won?t have to redo it. Other more minor complaints that I have were that Victor asked to borrow my scissors and then lost/took them (they were nowhere to be found after they left) and the house was a total mess of dust from the bedroom to the front door for the 4-day duration of the project. He also had to borrow our drill at one point because he forgot his.
The following Tuesday I got a text message from Victor saying that he was sorry for not replying to me and that it was because he got a bad cold that left him in bed. He asked me to let him know when would be a good time to come out. Needless to say, at this point, we didn?t bother. Victor is a nice guy, and I know that he spent more time than he anticipated on our project. Probably by the end he just wanted to get done. But the end result was still pretty disappointing.

I have nothing but praise for Victor and his team's work. Victor is professional and courteous and very responsive. I had hardwood flooring installed in my master closet. He and his crew showed up on time and were able to do the installation and staining in one day. He perfectly matched the stain to the rest of the flooring. One of the baseboards also had to be replaced and Victor searched for and eventually found a match. His crew came back to install the baseboard and Victor came back to paint it, always accommodating my schedule. The floor is beautiful and I'm a very satisfied customer.

We called a couple of companies for estimates , and Ultimate Hardwood Floors was the quickest to respond. We set up a time to meet at our home, and Victor was prompt in his arrival. We spent about an hour going over the new installation of hardwood floors in my kitchen and refinishing my existing hardwood floors. He was friendly, courteous, capable, and answered all our questions. We received a printed quote and and an estimated start date on the spot.
After a couple of other quotes I decided to proceed with Victor company. Immediately he came up I signed the paperwork and he had a crew out the following week to begin. We peeked at there progress several times (after the crew had left), and were pleased with how tidy things were. The crew did a great job and finished within the estimated time. Our floors look BEAUTIFUL, and we couldn't be happier with the results.
