Great service great company great owner and quot;Roy Riversand quot;. I am very very happy with the work Roy and his men did at my home. I have a large 50 year old Ash tree and Roy has it back on it's way to fill health. I will be using Roy again in the Spring. He's a great person. A joy to deal with.
Description of Work: Tree was sprayed for insects and I had a lot.

ly one of the trees may need an expensive
Description of Work: Most tree service companies do pruning, cutting etc. I needed an agriculture graduate to examine the condition of my trees and apply bug control and fertiliser to my trees. I found Roy to be honest and professional and I would recommend him. But his service is expensive. However when you think about how long it takes for Live Oak Trees to grow it is a bargain to treat them on time. Roy sprayed over 20 trees and most of them had bugs because of the drought East Texas had in 2010 and 2011. He showed me where were and explained everything.

I called the Tree Doctor due to one of the review from someone who had similar tree problem. He was very spontaneous, came within a couple hours like he is just around the corner. He told me that the tree has and quot;fungiand quot; but could not tell me what kind it is, and also bores. He said he can treat the fungi and feed the root with fertilizer to bring it back to health. He started out at $600 and quickly went down to $400 which including treating other smaller trees around to keep the fungi from spreading. He also said I can save money by treating the bores myself with any insect/bug spray. He also told me that he maintain many trees in the nearby neighborhood for the civic club. I was desperate to save the tree so I agree to the price. He came immediately early next morning and spend about 20 min injecting solution from his truck into the ground around the trees and that was it. I was very surprise and I though there are more to treating the tree than that. He showed me the chemical he used which is Cleary 3336F. Since he did the work, I paid him but felt like something is not right. I did some research afterward and found that Cleary 3336 F is a systemic fungicide used for the prevention and control of and quot;turf diseases and the diseases of annual and perennial flowers, bedding plants, foliage plants, ground covers, plus deciduous (fruit) trees and shrubsand quot;. It is NOT for oak tree or any kind of shade tree. A friend of mine suggest that I contact Texas Forest Services at Texas Aand M. They referred me to a couple licensed arborists. I had them came out to assess and they immediately know what kind of disease it has. The tree is infected with two deadly diseases : Hypoxylon Canker and Ganoderma root rot. The bottom line is that these diseases can NOT be treated and the tree will die within a few years. They would not recommend treating it with any fungicide because it will be a waste of money. There has been many mature oak trees all over the city and state that had the same problems since the drought and had to be cut down. Recently I met with an ex-president of the neighborhood civic club and he said he have never heard of the Tree Doctor. Basically I feel I had been scammed by the Tree Doctor. I would NEVER use this company again and I would NOT recommend to anyone. If you have tree disease problem, get a professional licensed arborist. Go with Bio Landscape. They are the best.
Description of Work: We have a 100 years old oak tree right in our front yard that is dying due to disease. Since the drought in 2011, the tree has significantly deterioration at the root. Large branches also have been fallen off and it appears that the branches are deteriorating from inside to the point that they can no longer supporting their own weight. We love this tree and while we know the tree will not last forever, we want to do everything we can to we want to prolong its life as much as possible. We originally bought the house because of this tree.

I had a large piece of a tree fall into my yard, so they cut it up and got rid of it. They did the work sometime around Thanksgiving. I don't remember how much it cost me. I would have to check the invoice.

Rivers knows his trees, and has been working in Houston for decades. Persuaded me that the trees could be saved (at a lot less cost than removing them) event though they are in pretty bad shape and had dropped several large limbs. Under his supervision, his crewsubtantially trimmed out the canopy, removing some huge limbs, and did all services above. Job was done on time, and cleanly--no debris left in the yard. I was very pleased with the work

Roy Rivers came by and gave a thorough estimate. Met in the morning before work. Set a time to come by a few days later. Arrived on time with a small crew and took care of all the work very quickly. The team removed the debris. Roy suggested one addition to the original quote (fungal treatment). Everything was done efficiently. Roy is a Louisiana native with 50 years experience in the business, and it showed in his knowledge of the locally-popular species and their behavior in hurricanes (including the amusing personal anecdotes- a bonus).

I called Mr. Rivers to inform him of the large webs covering two limbs on my large, old oak tree in the front yard. He said the cost to spray a tree would be $200.00. We made an appointment to have the tree sprayed about a week later. Mr. Rivers arrived within 30 minutes of our scheduled appointment, as I recall. He informed me the problem was spider mites etc., and were likely caused by the enormous amount of rain we had been receiving all summer. He also advised me to keep everyone off the lawn, including any pets, for at least 4 hours after spraying because of the strong chemicals. Again, nothing against Mr. Rivers, but I will not use chemical sprays on my trees or lawn anymore, and therefore will not be hiring his or any other company using chemicals in the future.
Description of Work: Mr. Rivers sprayed my large, old laurel oak tree growing on my front lawn, which was covered with webs on two large limbs by what he called spider mites etc. He used a strong solution of malathion (writing hard to read?) to kill all sucking insects and to prevent further infestation. The spiders mites etc. and webs were totally gone within a two week period. Although Mr. Rivers did a great job of ridding my tree of its pests and webs, I have since done some research (I wish had done it before I sprayed, but I thought the pests were killing my tree) and learned its extremely unsafe for our environment to use these very strong pesticides on our trees and lawns. There are other safe methods to get rid of pests, so in the future, I will look for a more organic manner to rid my trees and lawn of pest problems.

Roy came to my house with one day notice, to give me an estimate and ended up doing the work that afternoon. His crew was very professional and cleaned up all of the debris and removed it from our yard. If given the chance Roy will talk your ear off, so be careful. He has been in the business for 44 yrs and works off of referrals (no advertising). His pricing was not very structured, as I added services he would tell me the new price. I feel that it was a reasonable price, but he was not quoting from a price sheet. I will definitely use him for future tree services.
Description of Work: He performed worked on 4 trees: 2 recently planted oaks, 1 65 yr old oak and 1 80yr old oak, in our neighbors yard. Young trees, root stimulator, deep root feeding and aerating, trimmed dead branches and suckers and sprayed for insects. 65yr old deep root feeding and aerating, sprayed for insects, trimmed back large limbs hanging over roof, cleared out dead branches and suckers. 80yr old oak (neighbor's tree), trimmed back branches over property line, that were growing over our newly planted oak.

I'm very pleased and would recommend Roy and his crew to anyone. Roy doesn't just determine what needs doing and then leaves the job to other workers, but he supervises and advises during the whole job. He seems to be familiar with every aspect of tree care and knowledgeable about what needs to be done without seeming to pad the job with unforeseen or unnecessary expenses. [Note: By my scheduling the trimming services for the day before heavy trash pickup I saved about $300, a hint for scheduling!]
Description of Work: Three large water oak trees were trimmed, treated for insects, and fed. Roy and his crew did a very good job, consulted with neighbors for their preferences concerning overhanging limbs, and made sure that no growth for the next few years from these trees would impact my roof or utility lines. They cleaned up well after working and piled the debris for the next day heavy trash pick-up. They even returned after the city truck had loaded the trash and took care of the small stuff the truck didn't take away!

Roy Rivers and his crew did an excellent job trimming my large trees. The results were balanced, healthy, and aesthetically pleasing trees. He has 44 years of experience so he knew all the names of my trees, what fertilizer to use, and how to trim them for better growth. He cleaned up my yard very well afterward. The best part besides his workmanship was that he was prompt in answering my calls and gave me a written estimate beforehand. Ironically, I only called him after not hearing back from another Angie's List tree service that I had used before. They had great ratings, but a problem returning phone calls. Roy Rivers is my new tree guy!
Description of Work: Trimmed 5 large trees: 3 live oaks, 1 Arizona ash, 2 crepe myrtles. Removed dead limbs from 2 smaller trees. Fed all trees fertilizer and root stimulator. Cut limbs into firewood and hauled off trash.

Tree Doctor answered my call promptly, followed up readily with an estimate, and tree trimming. He was able to explain the specific solution for greener and taller trees. The tree service was scheduled as soon as a day and time were set, and the tree man was on time. He trimmed and sprayed eight trees and fertilized them. He cleaned up all the loose limbs, debris, and left the yard in immaculate condition.
