I bought a big deal for this service and everything was fine. I got it pretty soon after I bought the deal. I had asked them to do something extra. The only issue I had was that the guy who came and scoped out the job was no longer with the company when they came to do the job. One of the things we had asked them to do he had never put on the work order. Then I tried to get them to do it, but they never showed up to do it so I contracted with a different company to stump grind.

Great job, would use again.  The hardest part of this was the scheduling.  From getting the initial date 2+ weeks out, to equipment failures and lack of communication on cancellation, to rescheduling, to getting rained out, it took 47 days to get this done. I never did get a confirmation of the rescheduled date, so I was a bit surprised when my doorbell rang at 0800.  Fortunately, I could rearrange my schedule to be home while they worked.  (I do recognize that summer is the busiest time for tree services, and some of these delays are to be expected when you try to schedule this kind of work in the summer).
With that one qualification, they did an excellent job.  Their arborist worked with me before the day to walk the property and build a punch list.  He confirmed that my scope of work could be done in the hours allotted, and suggested a priority of work to get it all done.  In all, the team performed the following:
  • Major trimming of 4 50-year-old trees (three live oaks, one pecan)
  • Minor trimming of 2 50-year-old trees (pines)
  • Removal of one 20-year-old ornamental pear
  • Minor trimming of smaller shrubs

The team completed the entire project in the time allotted, including a sparkling clean-up job and chipping/removal of all debris.  They did a wonderful job.  The oaks in particular now are strikingly beautiful (and less likely to sustain wind damage).  I would happily use Texscape/MetroTree again.

They did a lot of work but didn't finish the whole job. One could argue there was too much work, but when they got to the hard part, they seemed to slow down so that they didn't have to finish it.

The job was done absolutely perfect. Two of the three trees were actually leaning into the neighbors yard, and one was almost   over there house. I was worried the fence might be damaged or worse, they would damage the neighbors roof. Instead, they were very professional, very organized, and very efficient and above all, very safe.

After I purchased the Big Deal, I contacted Neville Mann, a certified arborist, and asked him to come to see our yard. (Although I experienced some communication problems, they were minor.) I told him what we needed, i.e., having 6 trees cut down with or without root grinding and a big branch of a huge tree cut down. He recommended me to trim a huge tree instead of removing the entire big branch; regarding root, he suggested the treatment with chemical rather than grinding for all trees except for the small one in the front yard. He mentioned that root grinding was not included in the deal. He also notified me that cutting down the small tree in the front yard may need extra fee, depending on the speed of the crew. He marked trees which would be cut down with red paint. Neville seemed knowledgeable, and his estimate of the job which could be done within a day appeared to be very reasonable.
On June 10th, the 4 member crew came to our house around 7:45 am. They started working quickly. Before lunch time, 3/4 of the job appeared to have already been done. By around 3 p.m., they finished what I asked to do, including cutting down the small tree in the front yard. To my surprise, the crew continued working; they trimmed a big tree in the back yard and 2 trees in the front yard. After they finished cutting trees, they swept the yard. They brought all tree branches and trunks cut down to the chipper truck, which efficiently chipped them into small pieces. After the job was done, both back yard and frond yard were very clean! In addition, they also went to my next-door neighbor's yard to pick up the cut-down branches.
In summary, I was very happy with this company. They were professional, courteous and hard working. I highly recommend Texscape Tree Services (I forgot to write. They use the name, "MetroTree," which appears to be Texscape's subsidiary or tree service department.).

The arborists that came to the house were knowledgeable and professional.  Looked at dying tree and determined the cause.  Staff removed the tree.  Talked with the company about treating a couple of the remaining trees for beetles, but did not hear back from the company.  Clean up was very professional; all staff were respectful of property and courteous.

Overall the project was satisfactory albeit this level of work requires a well-informed and multi-lingual customer. This job had the following drawbacks: a last minute change in the project manager, some minimum level of Mexican Spanish was necessary, and their chipper truck was too heavy for the ground in one critical area. The site is on an old 5 acre farm where some two dozen trees in excess of 45' tall complement the property. Contractor's crew arrived at the appointed time for a full day's work. Tree climbing with a chainsaw and rigging is downright dangerous work, so SAFETY was my main concern. Contractor's climbers were experienced and exceptionally skilled. I would not however have started this work unless there was a Contractor lead (after being advised by a certified arborist) who could advise on what limbs to cut, OR that customer is knowledgeable enough to advise the crew which trees and dying growth were most critical. The latter turned out to be the case. This was a one day event so there was little time to debate each issue. I selected 9 trees to focus on and gave the Crew Lead a tree map and with a lot of pointing and gesturing they went about the work. I must say the climbers were experts with their rigging and saws. I was impressed at their agility and balance. Every section of a live oak is different requiring creativity on the spot. The NEW project manager showed up at the site for the first time an hour after the crew had started. He was in a hurry since he was handling my job on short notice and was off to another far away appointment. He saw that the crew had started, identified a couple of trees for me and was gone. I offered a map of the site and which trees should be addressed, but he declined it. In summary, the pre-site visit by the PM was for naught since he "was no longer with the company." I had difficulty communicating with the crew Lead and spent a lot of time trying to direct the climbers individually. The crew lead drove the chipper truck to an area closer to the work (about 100 ft) without informing me and he got stuck. He spent a couple of hours digging it out and I tried to assist with materials for traction. He called a tow truck in the end and finally extricated the truck and chipper after leaving some deep scars under our live oaks. I'll need to repair that area before I can mow. LEARNINGS: In retrospect, I would have paid for a PM to be at the site for a few hours at the beginning and check back on progress. Also, I won't waste my time on MAPS and such since they won't or can't read them. Finally, having now tried both fixed scope of work and time and materials tree service jobs on my property, the Big Deal savings is not worth the headache and is not really such a big deal after all.

It's December 2015 now and let it be noted that the contractor never made an appointment to repair the ground where their truck had to be towed off the site.

"Sorry that this project wasn't performed to your satisfaction. When we parted ways with your original Project Manager we expected there would be dropped balls and unhappy customers, during the interim, but felt the change was best for us long term. Our apologies for your project being scheduled during the transition. I'd like to repair the sod where it was damaged by our crew. I'll send you a message and get it scheduled. Thanks for trusting us with your tree car needs and hopefully we'll have an opportunity to earn your business in the future."
