The work was of top notch quality but I do have several complaints:
1) An assessment of the "lay of the land" was not as thorough as I would have liked. The issue is that in order to line up the top of the two side entry fences with the top of the gate a good size gap was left at the bottom of the fences. What should have been done was the side fences manufactured to be taller so that there would be minimal gap at the bottom of the fence. I would have understood a price adjustment as more material would need to be used to do this but it would have looked a lot better and been more functional in the end. We are now going to have to put in decorative rocks or something to close up the gap so that our dogs can't crawl under the fence.
2) Installers were supposed to be out on a Sunday to begin the installation but never showed up nor called to say that they would have to cancel. We had turned down an invitation to go to a football party/BBQ because of the appointment. I have a very low tolerance for companies blowing off customers and not caring about what their personal schedule may be. If not for this no-show, I would have given them an "A" for Punctuality as they were on time for all other scheduled appointments.
The above critical comments not withstanding, I would highly recommend this fence company for their overall customer service and the quality of the product that they install. Their prices seemed to be maybe a little higher (based on other quotes we got) but, in the end and except for the two comments above, I am happy I chose them and would use them again...I would just be smarter in evaluating the project and would tell them up front that any non-contact, no-shows for scheduled appointments would cancel the contract.
"We appreciate the overall great review as well at the feed back that helps to serve all our customers better. We will address the issues identified. We are thrilled that the end result, in spite of a few bumps along the way, was exactly what you wanted. Linda Scott, President"
Philip helped set this up and fit us in since this a was smaller job than they usually do. Jose' (Shorty) who built the original fence and his assistant had the fence up in no time. We are thrilled with our fence! I will continue to recommend Summit Fence South to everyone.
In any event, I was not told when the gate would be installed but I did come home to find the team installing the gate.
The gate was too close to a tree, shrubs and garden and couldn't open fully. It opened about 45 degrees.
I told the guys to move it back so it can open it 90 degrees and they said call the office and they'll send us to move it back.
Well i've been calling the office for months. Every time I did I got a promise from Phil that he would come out and look at it.
Finally I called after months of realizing I wasn't getting Phil out and talked to Linda to complain and she pretty much told me to "Do what you have to do", because I told her I am tired of the BS. She said this is the first time she's heard of this. I don't doubt that, but that's irrelevant to me.
Your employee or your team screwed up and you have to own it. I'm not sure if she is the boss.
Lots of companies can install fences. Its the service and the ability to take care of disputes or what a customer complains about that gives you a good reputation.
I will admit that I got p***** off because the first thing out of Linda's mouth was "Why am I only now hearing about this", why did you take so long to complain". "I don't understand".
I don't want to hear that BS, i've been dealing with this for months. Own it. Now you want to charge me another $600 to dig three hole posts and move the fence back a few feet for a mistake that you created in the first place.
What I want now is a refund. You can have your $1300 gate back or was it $1600. I'm looking for my receipts.
I really didn't want to write this and I told Linda I would and she basically said go ahead.
So now I have to call the credit card company and find other places to warn people about the bad service I had. Guess i'll look up Yelp too.
Linda, please take care of your customers. This sucks for both of us.

"We are sorry that the customer was unhappy with our timeline of installation. We have had an unusually wet first quarter and it has delayed all our work. This customer did not email and request a refund as we would have done so immediately. However due to so many delayed jobs communications have been less than stellar. For that we sincerely apologize. I will contact the customer on Monday to discuss the pickets he wants replaced. We strive for perfection and sometimes fail but our positve reviews have continued to out weight the poor ones. This constructive feedback is the only way we can approve our performance. Linda Scott"
I called Summit Fence South on Monday, 11/17/14 because all my troubleshooting attempts had failed. My gate wouldn't work and the remotes seemed dead. I reset it numerous times but it just wouldn't do anything. When I called, I was told 3-5 days, or by the end of the week. I gave a synopsis of my problem over the phone. By the time I came home from work tonight, the gate was fixed. This is the second time I have had to call for service to my gate (last time the ground shifted and we needed it leveled) and both times they were out by the next day.
I cannot tell you how impressed I have been with the stellar service I have received since my fence, gate and remotes were all installed by Summit Fence in May 2013. I love my fence and I know that they will always have my back and respond to my needs. I highly recommend this company!
"Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience with our company. We recognize that we can never improve if we don't know what we do wrong or continue to give good service if we don't hear what worked. It was as much a pleasure working for you as you feel it was working for us. Thanks again for your kind words and enjoy your new fence. Linda Scott, President"
"Thanks for taking the time to give us your feedback. We will address our punctuality issue so that it won't be an issue for other customers. Enjoy your fence and thanks for you positive feedback. Linda Scott, President"
"This customer was so easy to work with. We installed a new product that allows her to see who is at her gate from a long distance without binoculars and let them if she wants to. The final front gate had two stars and was beautiful. Thanks for such a great review and you deserve all A's too."
"As a business owner and a busy person as we all are these days I never take for granted our customers who take the time to say something nice about us. We love what we do and want every customer to have an excellent experience. Thanks for letting us know when we get it right. Linda Scott President"
Their rep, Russell, was very timely and professional. He came out to understand the request and quickly sent a proposal. Russell informed me that the proposal was in error and they could not build the fence for the amount they had proposed. After pointing out that the proposal had been signed and the deposit paid, the company graciously agreed to honor the contract. In an effort to be a good citizen and to help Russell, I offered to pay an extra amount as a good will gesture and they agreed. They then scheduled the install, showed up on-time and installed a great looking fence for us.
The service and product is excellent. The measure of a company is how they chose to resolve disputes, and they get high marks on that measure.
"We love our Angie's List customers. Thanks for the great review we hope you will love your fence for a long time. Don't forget you have a one year warranty. Thanks for taking the time to review us here as with everyone's busy schedules we recognize that is hard to take time to tell us how we did especially if we did it right. Linda Scott"
"Thanks for taking time from your busy day to get us feedback. We appreciate your business and hope that you will refer us to a friend or two. Linda Scott"
So after five weeks of waiting, they finally come and put the fence up. It took about a week. Of course, before the fence is completed, they thought it would be a great idea to nail their cheap Summit Fence South sign on my fence in the most noticeable place, without asking my permission. Excuse me, but I am not paying Summit Fence South $2500 so that my property can be used
as a billboard for your company! Of course, the day after the work was completed they were very prompt to send the bill for the other 1/2 of the payment and I received several phone calls asking me when they could expect the check.
I told them that since they were in no hurry to respond to my phone calls, I was in no hurry to pay them. They would be treated as well as they treated me..
Sure the fence looks fine, but there are 10 other companies in Houston who could do just as fine work, minus the frustration. If this is how they treat all their customers, I would be surprised if they are still in business in a year.
"This job was a two neighbor shared fence. The down payment received by the customer that wrote this review was received as she stated. However, the neighbor did not get his down payment until 10 days (two weeks) after this customer. So bearing in mind that we don't start production until this time the job was completed in three (3) weeks with a minimum of 5 rain out days during this time. Stating that we went MIA is not accurate at the salesman and our installation team lead were at the job site a minimum of 3 times during this period at the job had some unique aspects that we wanted to make sure we did right the first time. We apologize if there seemed to be a communication problem. We worked very hard to stay in contact with the customer and will acknowledge that we assumed that the neighbors were in contact and she was aware that her neighbor didn't contact us for the first 10 days. I am please to state that yesterday we received a call from her neighbor who could not say enough nice things about our fence, professionalism and quality of the end product. We have asked him to write a review and hope that you will see that soon either here or at Google Plus. We stand behind all our actions except the assumption the this customer knew that our start of 2- 3 weeks was based on both down payments being received and that her neighbors busy schedule delayed us."
"We appreciate this customers opinion of the work done for her and can somewhat understand her concerns. I won't make excuses for her unhappiness but I will clarify for any potential customers. First, the representative that helped her is no longer with our firm as we discovered that he was unable clarify reasonable expectations of what the finish product would look like. In the case of this customer, we were asked to remove an old existing chain link fence. As anyone who has owned a chain link fence, overtime vines, grass and even trees have been known to grow into them. In this case the entire back fence line was completed woven through with growth. This growth can serve to disguise any gaps at the base of the fence line. In addition, once the entire fence lines dirt is disturbed by pulling our and moving around growth the ground becomes uneven. We all like to think of Houston as flat but it is not level. The customers greatest concerns after the fence was installed was that there were gaps along the back fence line. As there is no easy way for us to move or fill in the gaps we were trying to find a solution outside the box. The expectation was not explained to the customer by her sales rep that to have the fence level at the top it would also be level at the bottom and that the bottom of the fence would be at the highest elevation. We spent many conversations as well as visits to her home to try to resolve this problem and the customer chose to receive a discount on her fence which we have paid and to resolve this issue herself. I would like to defend out communications with her as we shared many phone calls, meetings at her home and ideas for resolution with her. The fence we built were exactly per her specifications and looked beautiful when finished. I'm not sure how she resolved her problems but I do know that in a very short period of time nature will resolve most of her issues. I agree that we failed in creating the appropriate expectations prior to installation but we did seriously address every concern after the fact and even monetarily compensated her for her trouble. I'm not sure what else we could have done. We appreciate every customers business as we know they have choices and wish that every customers experience could be an A+. This time it didn't happen. But we take every bad review and use it as a training tool for our salesmen."
