Mr. Sampson is an expert in his field. He has 40 plus years of experience. Mr. Sampson installed Tile and Carpet in our previous house over 12 years ago and we were amazed at the sale of our house with 12 year old carpet, it looked almost brand new still.
We looked at a lot of Wood looking Tile. What we found is the 6 inch wide Tile was too small in width, also the length at 2 feet just was not going to have that wood look. The Bigger Planks the Bigger your Room will look. We focused on 8 inch by 3 feet long. When we found the 10 inch by 5 foot Tile is was perfect. What we found out is for the wood look you need Rectified (Laser Cut) Porcelain Tile. Why? To have the Wood look you will need 1/16 inch grout lines, we found from an Internet review to go with a Shadow type color Grout. We researched Mapei Flexcolor CQ and found it does not need to be sealed, does not change color over time, it is a stand-alone grout no mixing or additive required, so it seems to be the best of the best out there. We chose 09 Gray http://www.mapei.com/US-EN/coloured-grouts-list.asp which we found to be the perfect, not too dark or too light color. If you look at a real Wood install, you will see a Shadow that defines each plank, this Gray does just that. So far everyone has had to drop to their knees to check if it is real wood or not, oh and the texture of these Tiles feel like wood too. It even has pictured nails in some pieces to look like wood. When picking your Tile, Make Sure you take a sample home to check it to your lighting. We found what we thought was the perfect looking Tile and when we got it home it was Way Too Dark. Also with this Tile it is a Must to have your floors Floated at Install.
Mr. Sampson and 2 workers worked almost 2 weeks on this project. Why so long? This Long Tile requires two installers, one on each end to prevent Kick-Up. We had Ceramic Tile Floors in our Entrance and Carpet in the other Rooms they removed. I was extremely impressed on how we were not inconvenienced At All during the install. Mr. Sampson made sure we had access to our bedroom and kitchen at all times, also we have dogs which we did not have to board during the install.
We HIGHLY Recommend Mr. Sampson. He is one of the last Old School Type, Do It Right the First Time guys left. He takes pride in his work and his demeanor is extremely Professional. What you will find is he has not had to Advertise much since the majority of his work is by Word-of-Mouth and trust me it is All Good. We can't say enough of how pleased we are with his work.
