Wood Crafters was established in 1981 by native Houstonian Bill Bunch with a specialization in custom cabinets, furniture and woodworking. As his reputation for detail and craftsmanship grew, so too did his customers needs for other construction services. Wood Crafters was soon being sought after for remodeling, room additions, home improvements, and many other outdoor enhancements. With years of experience in design and building we have created some of the most exquisit backyards in the Houston Area.
Owner never return called after problem with project, I?don't recommended.? Started?March 2015 to look for contractor to build patio for my backyard.? Though that Angie's list was a good start and found Wood Crafters or Bellaire Paver whatever they call themselves.? Bill Bunch, the owner?showed up at my doorstep right away without any?follow up?phone call next days, and he?went over pictures, designs and estimate quote?with?me and my wife in very?professional?fashion.??Then I thought this Angie's list reference thing?had help me find a good contractor,?then I have decided that Wood Crafters/Belleair of Paver?will be the company I would use to build my patio even though they weren't the lowest bidder at the time?of the project.? Few weeks later after my HOA approved the project,?Bill and I reviewed the blueprint and verbally promised to start project in 3 weeks.? Then I put my 30% deposit down and from the point on things started to go south.??Project could?never get started after 3 weeks as?agreed, and delayed?until?mid?June call after call after call to get a hold of Bill.? And finally?the crew showed up and worked in middle of June.??Overall, the crew?had?done?a?fair job installing, by July 1st the project finally over and I paid out the rest of my balance to Bill, and Bill told me to follow up with him if?I have any problems.? On July 4th, we invited a few?friends over and kids?played?and ran around on the new paver patio; we enjoyed the night with foldable furniture.? The next morning, I noticed the color paver stone of the traffic area came off,?grey concrete showed?and many corner of the paver stones were chipped.???Called Bill and explained the problem on the phone and sent him pictures?of the problem on July 6 and that was pretty much the last time I could get a hold him.? I tried his cell, his office, and texted him?and none of this work to get a hold of him.? As I am writing this review, the time is December 2015 and my patience had been tested.??I am very?disappointed.

I am sorry to hear about your frustration. Wood Crafters and Bellaire Pavers does stand by our product and I hate to hear about things like this. The grey that you are talking about is more than likely what is called efflorescence and is a natural occurrence with man made bricks. Most of this should go away after some time, and some may just need to be replaced. Also, some of the stones will have slight chipping and usually is a result of shipping. We try our best to not have much of it, but it does occur. Bill Bunch passed away on February 1, 2016 and we have been in the mourning process. I am sorry that you have dealt with this and your frustration with communication. If you would like, I would be happy to come by and look at this with you and come up with a solution. Again, I am sorry about your frustration, I will do what I can, and will call you later today.

Total of work performed: Construction of 298 square feet of new pressure treated pine deck. All framing to be #2 pressure treated pine. Top boards to be #1 or better 2" x 6" pressure treated pine. Framing to be 2" x 4" at maximum 20" on center with 4" x 4" posts set 16" in concrete footings at maximum 4'-0" on center in both directions unless specified. Stake posts around existing pipes and tree roots as required. Ground covered with fiber woven weed barrier. (Note: price includes (2) hatch/access doors at catch basins). Note: Price includes replacing existing 2" x 6" plant bed boarder boards as per plan. Scott Ward was my salesman. He was great to work with. He listened to all our issues and made good suggestions. We were installing a wood deck partially over a pea gravel filled patio and partially over bare ground under a 60 year old water oak tree where grass would not grow. There were also house plumbing lines, sprinkler lines and underground drainage pipes underneath the deck - not to mention a ton of tree roots. We had two ground level open drains to the underground drainage pipes. Access to those drains had to be incorporated into the design of the deck. I put half the total amount down on August 18. They had a backlog of work, but were able to start a few days earlier than originally thought. The job took 5 days. There was one main carpenter and 1 or 2 assistants depending on what work was scheduled for the day. They pretty much worked 9 am to 5 pm - sometimes a little before or after if materials needed to be picked up or they were trying to finish a specific part that day. Wood was delivered and stored in the driveway. Each day the crew cleaned up very well. They were pleasant to work with and very hard working. The main carpenter made suggestions on design of the catch basin access and it turned out perfect. Scott said over time, some of the nails might work their way up. But it has been 7 months and that has not happened. The only thing we've seen is a few hairline cracks in the wood. Wood Crafters did not stain the deck. But they recommended Bunch Paint Contracting that did a very good job, too.

They did a really good job. They did a good quotation and detailed quotation. They actually did a really good construction work. It was actually better than I expected so I'm very satisfied with them. They have a very professional approach. They're very professional. They did exactly the detailed quotation so no surprises. I'd give them A on everything.

The job was over priced. The workers removed soil and initially piled it around the back fence. This left a stain on the newly built back-fence. Extra bricks were left in the yard also. One of the owner/managers came by after the job was completed and requested that the items mentioned above be resolved. The Bellaire Pavers did return and complete the job. We were told that extra bull rocks would be provided to fill in the French drain. We have not received them as to date. We feel the job was over-priced for what we received. We had planned to use Woodcrafters for building the deck, however this is very unlikely.

We had an old deck that we wanted removed and replaced with a new larger one. Scott from Wood-Crafters was able to give us a ballpark quote over the phone going by the square footage we wanted for the new deck (very helpful!). When he came to the house to discuss the new deck a few days later, he really listened to what we wanted, and even addressed our concerns about the height of the new deck and a specialty step we wanted at the back door (due to an aging pet). Before leaving he gave us a rough drawing on graph paper of the new deck, and even managed to incorporate decorative edging and "curves" in the deck design (something I didn't think I'd be able to have). The new estimate provided was extremely close to the original one we got over the phone. A couple of days later we received a copy of the professional diagram of the new deck, along with a separate diagram of the specialty step we wanted, and specific details of the types of materials being used. After approving the plans, the work began about a week or so later. During the build, Scott was in contact with us, and stopped by to check the progress and ensure things were going as planned. He immediately addressed any questions/issues we had and kept the job on schedule. Once the deck was completed, Scott performed a final inspection with us. Overall, we are very happy with the deck and would certainly use Wood-Crafters again.

I hired Wood-crafters to design and construct a back porch with a connecting breezeway to the detached garage after seeing their work firsthand at a friend's house. I knew they were the ones I wanted for my project, and could not have been more pleased. Bill and his crew did an excellent job, and I would definitely use them again, and recommend them to anyone.

I had Bellaire Pavers remove some existing old concrete decking and drive way concrete, then install travertine pavers around the pool and patio, with concrete pavers on the drive. Bill and his crew were very professional, provided much-welcomed design ideas and considerations, but above all else, delivered a high quality work product. Everyone that sees my back yard now is amazed, and wants to know who did it. I don't hesitate to say Bellaire Pavers, and I am sure they will do a fantastic job for you as they have for me. Definitely will use them again on other projects.

We hired Wood Crafters to rebuild our backyard deck (approximately 15' x 15'), using Angelim wood. We had a great experience from start to finish. Bill came to our house promptly to give us a sketch of the plan and a detailed estimate. This is more than we can say for other deck builders we found on Angie's List to contact for a quote (some of whom promised to call us back and never did). Brian and his crew spent the better part of a week working on the deck, and their attention to detail shows. The construction quality is very high, and the deck is so much sturdier and attractive than our old, aged one. The crew were very professional and extremely knowledgeable about their craft. When we had two slight modifications to be made after the deck was finished (which weren't in our original design), the crew came back and worked to address them. This was very much appreciated. I noticed another review here on Angie's List that commented that the cost estimate was too high. All I can say is that 'you get what you pay for', and we certainly feel given the very high quality and customer service that we got a good deal. We would definitely recommend them to anyone we know!

We didn't hire Wood Crafters as the estimate was higher than we were willing to pay, but I would contact them for an estimate for another building job.
Description of Work: We called Wood Crafters to get an estimate on replacing our deck. We were able to setup an appointment for a weekend morning and the representative was right on time. We talked about what we wanted and he took measurements of the deck. He constructed a drawing of the deck including where the stairs, benches and railing would go. It was far more complete and specific than the other companies we interviewed. It was clear he understood what we wanted and we were confident that company would deliver our vision.

They had on their list my area as one of their areas where they worked. Left two emails to be contacted. When I was contacted, I was informed they were out of Sugarland and did not come this far. He was willing to get me a ball park bid over the phone? This did not make any sense since I told him this was not a normal project. Told him no that he needed to come out to give a quote and he declined. Needs to take this area off of his description if he not willing to extend the courtesy.

I have changed our listed locations and was not aware that we had set it up in this location. It is regretful that you felt that we were not being responsive and should have been more attentive to your request. We value our clients and have been trying to reach as many as possible in a timely manner. The reason that I had asked the questions that I did, was because I was willing to come out even though it was out of our area and just wanted to make sure that it was something that we would even do. Sorry for the inconvience and we have adjusted the settings to better suit our area of coverage.

We were very pleased with all aspects of Wood Crafters process, from the sales call / proposal through the installation. Scott Ward came out to discuss our needs and did a couple things that stood out to me. First, the area where we were building has two mature trees. Scott demonstrated knowledge and care for what could be built without risk to the trees. Secondly, not being a very large job, Scott measured and hand drew an entire plan while on site, including details like the way he would recommend running the boards for improved aesthetics. He stayed and walked through the entire design with us prior to leaving the site. After we decided to move forward with Wood Crafters, Scott was great at communicating and scheduling the work to coordinate with our schedule. With respect to installation, a team of two did all the work. They were punctual and professional. The quality of installation was impressive. The foundation is strong; as mentioned above the decking boards were run on the diagonal (which looks great); borders were built around the entire deck and a ring borders were built around the tree that goes through the deck. The radius bench with planter boxes around the second tree was a great addition and reasonably priced given the amount of work. The guys soaked and cut the wood to bend around the curve of the bench--both front and back. They finished the job timely and we love our deck!

Started with Scott Ward coming out to see us promptly after the call. Scott listened and put together a detail CAD drawing of our project. It went through various revisions until we had a final. Very detailed, listened and worked with us to get what we wanted. Construction began on time and finished in a reasonable time, always prompt. there was a crew of only two, but Charles was excellent and listened to our input and changes. there were a couple of minor errors, but corrected promptly when identified. The end result is a fabulous deck addition and outdoor kitchen with built in grill. It was on time and on budget. Bill Bunch is owner and came by to make sure our project was in line with his company's expectations.

The quality of work stood out to me. I think they did a really good job. Those guys worked so hard they had to break out a concrete patio that was already here. We had no idea it was as thick as it was. They worked so hard and I think they did a really good job. I thought they were reasonable. It wasn't cheap but we didn't expect it to be. It was done so well I know it's going to be here forever. The sales person was really good in the beginning but then we didn't hear from him for a while. I think he could have done a better job of staying in touch with us and letting us know our time frame. It wasn't terrible but for that money I would expect him to be very prompt in responding and give us a realistic time frame. It was right in the middle of the Thanksgiving holiday when we were working on it so I give him a little bit of a pass for that otherwise I think I would have come down hard on him.

Project was well planned with a couple of meetings prior to starting the work. Design was performed with formal construction drawings and agreed to with owner prior to start -- this is a definite plus. Quality of workmanship was excellent. Minor miscommunication because owner was sent to the stone yard to select stone -- owner didn't have the experience to select the proper stone. Overall excellent job and would definitely use them again.

The paver guys did the work and were very efficient and quick. however, the concrete form they built to support the pavers and sand bed was rather rough, literally and figuratively. two of the paver pieces had chipped from imperfections (bubble in the clay). instead of using or replacing these pieces before the concrete dried, they left it there until i mentioned it to Bill Bunch, owner. he said it would matter since that part of the paver would be removed when they dig the hole for othe two giant post that would be the support for our patio cover. ok...several weeks later, the patio cover project commenced. the "carpenters" that came out were shockingly crude. they did not care to cut anything precisely. everything was "close" enough to fit together. even tract home framing jobs are better than what these guys slapped together i have to say. top it off, we found nails all over the yard, cigarette butts, fast food cups, wrappers, and urine in one corner of our yard. SERIOUSLY????!!!! Bill Bunch was not at all interested in hearing what we had to say about his crew. he just wanted the check. i told him i'll mail the check when his crew comes to clean up my yard, fix the imperfection we point out, and apologize for urinating in the yard. he the proceeded to say he'll come over and take a look personally. then started putting pressure on us for the payment when he got there, saying that he didn't see any issues with the work. we exchanged some conversation and we paid him accordingly without having any thing resolved. at this point, we just figured he was so desperate for money that he'd probably camp out in our home until he gets paid. ick! i don't recommend him for any out door work. the next time i'll use Remodel Specialists since they NEVER pressure you to pay them until THEY are satisfied with their own work, then they'd ask you if you're satisfied. then it's a matter of us volunteering to pay since we're soooo happy with the work. not so with the woodcrafter guys.

We are currently in a dispute with them because they did a lousy job. I think they lack professionalism. They did an okay to poor job cleaning up. They didn't have any attention to detail. Communication is an extremely big problem. They are very difficult to get in contact with. The foreman didn't come back to see the final product until 3 days later when it was basically too late to make any changes even though we called him and expressed our dissatisfaction with the way the job was going to end. Overall I would recommend people not to use them. They might seem more agreeable if you have a really large amount of money in the ballpark of $10-30,000. Especially for small jobs you really get the sense that you are a low priority and not very important to them. They advocated their quality on their website and we actually paid $300 more on the contract. We got 3 quotes and we only went with them because we felt they were fair. It was the exact opposite. The lack of communication was bad. As an update, after 5 months of not hearing from Woodcrafters Bill (the owner) called in mid December and wanted to fix the problem since he realized when closing his 2010 books that he was missing the other 50% of our payment. We allowed him back into our home and he promised to add a row of pavers. He stated he would have the blueprint to us in a week and would come in early January to fix the problem. Again, we had absolutely no contact from Woodcrafters until middle of February when they finally came out to finish the patio. At this time he added a row of pavers that does not match the initial color. We were still very unhappy but after multiple calls and him attempting to come back to our home to pick up payment we finally just sent a check by mail so we wouldn't have to interact with Bill or his company any further. In the end it took Woodcrafters 11 months to complete our contract for a small 220ft paver patio which we are still unhappy with. Bill made a comment at one point stating "you are a small project what do you expect." So if you are a large contract who is willing to take the risk of poor quality work and a lack of responsiveness go with Woodcrafters - for everyone else go to one of the many other respectable companies .

Altogether this big job was a swift and painless affair. Some minor complaints were dealt with immediately and responsibly. All specialists were polite and efficient and communications went very well. We would definitely use "Wood Crafters" and their paving department "Bellaire Pavers" again. We are very pleased with the outcome and we found them a trustworthy company.
