NewHaven Residential Design

Be extremely careful if you choose to work with Holly Larsen of NewHaven Residential Design. Don't sign her hourly contract! We had her come to our site several times. In detail, we discussed our priorities as well as the constraints of building on our property. I asked for schematics of a symmetrical plan and a 'form follows function' plan to compare. She produced a symmetrical design which did not satisfy our needs. When we pointed out the ways the design didn't accomplish our objectives she refused to acknowledge the problems or rework the design. She blamed us for not changing our parameters to fit her design. She took very little responsibility for her oversights. In retrospect, we should have terminated her services immediately. Her statements are not detailed, simply a lump sum of hours with no description of services. When I asked her to break out hours billed for design, client meetings and CAD drawings, she gave me percentages instead of sending a date/time/service statement. This is a very brief description of what became a disheartening experience. She has billed us $7500 to date, and all we have is an idea of what not to do in the future. In our correspondence she continues to blame us, the clients, and press for immediate payment of still unsubstantiated bills. I find her extremely unprofessional.
