New Balance sent Shaq out to look at my house to determine my needs. Shaq was wonderful: very professional, showed up on time, and was able to quickly assess what would be best for the house. He recommended both my A/C and heater be replaced. He also strongly recommended that I replace all the duct work. He was very upfront with me that the duct work was not in good shape, and it wouldn't be worth it to replace the systems but leave the duct work as it is. I appreciated the feedback and agreed it would have to be replaced. Shaq also listened to my concerns that I would want the house zoned (first floor and second floor zones). I got the quote later that day from Shaq.
We scheduled the service not long after that. Shaq came out another time after that to look at the duct work in an area of the attic that had been previously inaccessible. Shaq provided an updated quote for additional duct work that was needed. The crew came out and worked diligently each day. It took a little bit longer (maybe one day) than I was told, which wasn't great but wasn't a big deal since I hadn't moved into the house yet.
All in all, the service was really good and what I expected after my parents' long experience with New Balance. One of the things I appreciated was that I was given three different A/C systems to choose from. While the I was given an option for a more expensive option, Shaq was not pressuring me to purchase that system - he told me what the best option would be for my house, which was the mid-range option.
One of the best things I've loved is the energy efficiency. My home is a 37 year old home, yet my electricity bills for my almost 2,800 square foot house are virtually the same as my previous 1,100 square foot apartment. I'm still in shock that my electricity is not more. It speaks to the quality of the product, duct work, and insulation I received from New Balance.
I will continue to use New Balance for my A/C needs.

"We appreciate the feedback, and after talking with the technician and office manager, a slightly different picture is painted of the service call. The call complaint was the unit running continually and not cooling below 75 degrees. The quoted price was a $79 diagnostic charge (includes trip charge) plus whatever repair is needed minus the 5% Angie’s List discount. What the service technician diagnosed as the cause of the problem was an evaporator coil that was frozen over due to the system being low on refrigerant. The unit was turned off to thaw. Because thawing a unit takes several hours, the technician left and returned several hours later (no extra charge). As expected, the secondary drain pan was full of water and still dripping; not due to any clogged drain lines but to the low Freon causing the initial freeze and thawing. At that time, 2lbs of Freon was added and the problem for which the call was made was fixed. At this time, it was also recommended to the customer that a Safety and Efficiency check should be performed to help the unit run to the best of its ability, which would include flushing drain lines. Safety and Efficiency checks are a separate service, department and charge which are usually scheduled several days in advance. In conclusion, the total cost for the diagnostic, repair and Freon charge minus the Angie’s List discount was less than $200….a reasonable charge in the industry for this service. A Safety and Efficiency check was scheduled by the member who later called to cancel the appointment. There is no additional trip charge for this flat-rate maintenance service. Regrettably, there seems to have been a communication break-down."
"Your feedback helps us to continually make improvements with our customer service. Thank you for your comments."
"Thank you for sharing your positive remarks. We are happy to know that you are satisfied with our service."
"Thank you. This is the kind of feedback that makes it all worth the effort."
"It is regrettable that the member waited more than three months to provide this feedback of distrust which indicates a misunderstanding about the work that was performed and the follow-up effort to reconcile the problem by our company. A review of the invoice as well as discussioin with the service technician and President, the information that the customer didn't mention in this review is that the furnace and coil in the attic is at least 15 years old, not two. Only the outside condensing unit was recently replaced by another company. After the customer's initial complaint about the newly installed fan motor, buth the service tech and preisdent did a follow-up inspection of the work at no charge to the customer. The fan motor was the correct HP, voltage and phase. It was drawing the proper amount of amps, and the temperatrue drop across the evaporator coil as good. Whoever changed the condensing unit approximately two years ago, did not change the evaporator coil and furnace in the attic so the system is not properly matched. To remedy this situation, it was suggested that the customer replace the furnace and coil. We remain commited to our goal of customer satisfaction and promise of quality work. We again recommend that the old furnace and evaporator coil be replaced in the attic to match the outside condensing unit, and New Balance A/C, Inc. will deduct the full cost of the fan motor replacement from the installation cost of the new matching furnace and coil."
"Thank you, Member, for providing this feedback. It is always helpful to know what the experience with our company is like for our customers."
This gave me the chance to discuss air flow into a 2 story entry that was reconfigured during a remodel. Est $350... much less
than ARS who wanted to reconfigure everything. Svc contract on my units would include a coil clean, drain blow out, freon check and 5% off any parts needed. $417 for all 3. OK... nothings been done to these since I bought the place, 3 yrs ago.
Two guys show at 9am, one gets on the motor/electrical box the other starts the cleaning/check up on the attic units. After the motor has been in for a half hour some obstruction in the coil is causing high pressure to shutdown the compressor.
The new coils now use "Al Gore" Freon so I gotta do the whole enchilada. Well the unit was 11 yrs old. $5600 for 13 seer $6500 for 14 seer. Will credit me back for the fan motor, electrical cut off, contactor and svc agreement on the dead unit. Went for the better unit... ordered for next AM. Guys finished up with remaining two units to return in the AM with new system.
5 guys, 3 trucks at 9am - 1pm installed the new system and add the duct I wanted. They put down tarps to protect my carpet, tied my chandelier back while cutting my wall in entry hall, had uniforms and wore those little booties while in my house.
They will return one day next week to check system operation and make sure I'm pleased. (I would have been more pleased if it was $1350 or Al Gore hadn't got involved.)
I didn't shop this so I may have over paid, dunno... 5% off the price in the book. Everybody's gotta make money to stay in business.
"Thanks for this overview of the work that was done. The feedback is appreciated."
"very nice feedback from a loyal customer. Thank you."
"Thank you for this feedback and the recommendation."
"Thank you for this review....excellent recount of the work performed and very helpful feedback. We hope that you have been satisfied with the new system and will continue to utilize New Balance A/C for future air conditioning and heating services."
