We hired Nationwide Movers based on the recommendation from our realtor. I called them and received prompt, courteous assistance in setting up the movers (1 truck and 3 men). They were scheduled to arrive between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM, pulling up to our house at 8:40 AM. They were only moving the furniture and appliances, as we had already loaded everything else into a U-Haul truck. We had a lot of furniture, so they had to make two trips. Fortunately, we only moved 6 blocks. I was initially pleased with their work, as we had a lot of furniture and they worked for 12 hours to get the job done.
However, there were a few things that did not go very well:
1) When I arranged for the movers, I was told that we could pay by cash, check or credit card. After they arrived, I was told they would not accept a check and could not take a credit card either...cash only. I would have sent them away, but we had to be out of the house that day, so we were stuck.
2) They did not have enough furniture pads and wanted to charge us to use boxes between the furniture.
3) As we settled into our new home, we found significant damage to 4 pieces of furniture. The movers had to be aware of this damage when they placed the furniture, but failed to say anything. You can always expect some nicks or scratches are going to occur, but this damage went well beyond that level.
4) A large portion of the furniture was placed in the garage, as we moved to a smaller home. We put our dining room furniture in the there as I planned on selling it. Unfortunately the glass shelves for our china hutch were missing. Apparently they did not make it off of the truck. I checked the storage area of their truck to make sure it was empty, as they reqested, but did not check the truck cabin. I know they had placed some fragile items in there as well (flat screen televisions). Without the shelves the China Hutch was worthless and I lost money selling it.
Overall, the movers did a decent job, but it was overshadowed by their "cash only" position, as well as the hidden damage and lost items.
