"Our apologies to [Members Name]. After 3 years in business, we have yet to invest in and accommodate storage for a trailer. In an attempt to get his smaller units out of the way, I went to his home in my small compact pick-up to retrieve his tillers. The units were poor quality and had been beaten and poorly maintained. My first inclination was to refuse the repairs, but knowing he would have a difficult time finding anyone else willing to help him, much less pick up and deliver, I decided to make an effort. When I returned the units, the larger one was running and the smaller was was returned not repaired with just a nominal check out charge. I did not charge at all for the transportation. He called a few days later saying the tiller was not working. My intention was to arrange for one of my landscape maintenance customers to pick up his riding mower for him, and put a portion of the tiller repair bill toward the repair of his Sears riding mower. As far as the long wait and erratic scheduling goes, sorry, nothing we can do. We are in a seasonal business, it is very difficult to accommodate everyone to their satisfaction. The easy ones will always get done faster. This type of pressure from the public, and lack of understanding by the public is what drives operators of small engine shops to becoming eccentric and rude. It also drives them out of business. Consequently, there are fewer and fewer of these shops in operation today. Compliance with government regulations, the high cost of labor and the added hidden costs of labor pitted against the public's attitude toward pricing and value of our services make it very difficult to make a living. We have an opportunity to earn 70% of our annual revenue in 7 months, and 30% during the other 5. No one plans or schedules maintenance on these machines, they wait until a month past when they actually needed them to get them serviced, then expect it to be done immediately and at a low cost. In closing, I will say that we invite everyone, including [members name] to give us the opportunity to service their needs, and we promise to do the honest best we can to provide good service at reasonable value while operating at a profit. So far, most of our customers have allowed us to do that. Thank you"
