I Got Scammed! I chose Midtown Auto Service because they had mostly good reviews. And as a first time customer and instead of treating me fairly, they scammed me Big Time. This was a simple break job where the mechanic offered to install all heavy duty, high performance EBC brake pads and rotors on my Jeep Wrangler, for a total of $1200. Parts alone were $870. After the job was done, I requested the manufacturer model numbers for my records, which the mechanic refused to provide after multiple requests. I became suspicious so I took the tires off and got the model numbers. As I suspected, he installed some cheap crap that cost 1/3rd of what he charged me. The guy is a smooth talker who would make the used car salesmen very proud. Crooks! Shop owner: if you disagree with this review, feel free to post manufacturer and model numbers for parts that you installed and what you charged me

Finding a shop to work on your vehicle that you'll be pleased with to me is like finding a person who you're content with cutting/styling your hair. You go with who will basically make you happy. My mechanic called it quits after 30+ years and sold his business therefore I needed to make decisions. This was not going to be fun. I don't like using the "stealerships" because they'll tell you need this, this and this and your wallet will start screaming as the parts/labor bill just keep climbing. I support small businesses. I was going to do my due diligence, research and read reviews. Being a AAA member and also using Angie's List I reviewed, read and looked at many options of who was close to me in proximity to either work/home or both. I read up on Mike and his place in Midtown. Went in and spoke to him about the issue I was told by another shop but didn't use for the initial repair. Within an hour after dropping my Lexus off I was told what the primary problem and the cost involved. It wasn't going to be cheap but it needed to be done. I said, do it. Later that day I picked up the car and spoke to him about the quality parts he had used and so forth. Drove home and everything was fine. I don't drive the car except maybe 2-3 days a week. I noticed a tiny leak / steady drip 2 days after the install just under where the replacement was done. Come to find out there was a gasket missing from the relief valve and there lies my problem. I took the car back and walked in and said..."there's a problem" he immediately took my keys, drove it in the bay, put it up on the rack and found the problem. Here's how I knew this relationship would grow...he told me,I could just fix the gasket and that would be that. But instead, he ordered another new radiator and replaced it again as a whole. I had to wait just a day for his distributor to give him a replacement but that was something I could live with. This was not my daily driver and I had another vehicle to get by with if I needed to go somewhere. In the end,it worked out great! No leaks, no problems, no quick fixes that might have become a bigger problem later down the road and the little rice rocket runs like a champ.Had a print/clip out coupon to save $30.00 which may not seem like much, but every little bit helps. And too, no additional charges/fees for the labor to do it all over, again. Handed me my keys and I drove off happy. The other upside, his shop a 10 minute walk to work and the same to the train to get home. I can handle that. Mike is great guy with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. My 4runner is next in line for work and I think I have found my go to guy for all of the service work on my Toyota vehicles.

My ac wasn't working so I took into My Mechanic and they told me some crazy number to fix it. So I brought ?it here to get fixed and they charged me 1/4 of the price to get fixed. I didn't need any of the things I was told I needed from the first place.?

The service was faster than I expected and the owner even said he'd wait for me to come pick my car up when I wasn't sure if I could get there by closing time. He was friendly and helpful and helped me understand the work that needed to be done, and called to explain the diagnostics before doing any repairs, which of course I would expect but still appreciated.

I was at another mechanic shop and they told me that i needed 2000 plus dollars worth of work. I told them my car is not even worth that much. I came here and was so relieved with the price. I almost got so ripped off.

Car wouldn't start that morning so I had it towed in. I was worried it was going to be something big and all it was a blown fuse when I jumped started wrong. They were more than fair and honest.

My Ford Mustang stopped running cold Ac and I went to two popular other chains.  Both chains both claimed i needed the whole AC system which ranged from a whopping 1100-2100. I visited Mikey, at Midtown Auto Service and found out it was the electrical system that powered on the AC system instead of all that other stuff. All said in done cost was 398.34 dollars. BTW that was the reason why my check engine light was on.

Like everyone else on Angie's I was looking for a good mechanic shop who wouldn't bent me over. I tried going to two popular franchises and all they did was give me a possibility this might fix this after quoting over 1400.00. Apparently, I had some electrical issue which made my ac not turn on. Midtown Auto service, fixed my issue up without all that other Crap the other ppl were saying. This place is very fair and honest.

Car kept on overheating. A local mechanic tried to fix it but was beyond his ability. Mikey, at Midtown Auto Service, quickly identified the overheating before I cracked my engine.

Due to the reviews here on Angie's list I took my car in first thing Monday morning.  I had forgotten to call the week before to make an appointment but they were able to take my car.  Normally Mike can give you a ride within a 2 miles but since I live 3 1/2 miles away he offered to call a cab.  I was going to request a ride through Lyft but while I was waiting he offered to take me as he had to pick up parts and I was on the way.  He called to advise how much the fix wold be and I authorized the repair.  The car was ready at 2:00 that afternoon.  Mike and the technician I originally spoke to before Mike arrived shortly after I did were very friendly and professional.  I thought the cost was reasonable though I have nothing to compare to as I've never had this problem before.  I can say that just to evacuate and recharge freon would have cost nearly twice as much at the dealer and about 50% more at a competing shop so it seems like his prices are good.  I will be back.

I've had some other so called mechanics look and try to fix this very same issue and have spent my hard earned money on previous repairs only for the check engine light to be off for a day or two. Midtown Auto Service, the owner there is very competent and repaired what really needed to be repaired. I wrote this review almost a month later just to see if it really was fixed. Which it is.

Our minivan decided to not blow any ac during the hottest drive to Austin last weekend. I talked to some of the neighbors who they use since I live in the midtown area. Most of them said use, "midtown auto service." Others the dealership, but gave me warnings about the dealership so WHY even suggest, the dealership? Midtown Auto Service did a fantastic job.

My Ford F150 was running poorly and had a check engine light on. I had taken this truck to a garage I used previously 3 different times and each time the engine light came back within a week or two. I found Midtown Auto Service and Repair on AL and decided to give them a try based on all the good reviews. It has only been a couple of days since my truck was repaired by them but it is already running better than it has in a couple of years. They diagnosed the check engine light as a vacuum leak and replaced gaskets that were recalled by Ford. They informed me that my previous garage tried to fix it by putting silicon around the outside of the engine where the leak was. They diagnosed the rattle and squealing as both part of my serpentine belt, wheel and tensioner assembly needing to be replaced which they did. Lastly they performed a state inspection for me. I will update my review later to let you know how the truck is in a month or two. For now, I couldn't be happier with their personal service, accurate estimate and on time completion of the work. When you combine all of that with its convenience to my work, I think I found my new mechanics.

I've taken my car into two or three other so called auto repair shops to diagnose my AC issue which they all sold me parts theat never fixed my AC issue. Mikey, the owner, sold me what I needed and repaired the issue one time around. I was fooled by the other locations I went to with their free diagnostic BS approach. I should have went to Midtown Auto Service from the very beginning.

Midtown Auto on Almeda st in Midtown Houston is a straightforward auto repair shop. I have two older cars, a Mazda and a Ford, 2002 and 2006 and this is the place that keeps them inspected, oil changed, brakes working, electrical systems electricking, exhaust exhausting, etc. The owner is always on-site making sure things run smooth, and he is a clear communicator, so you know what you're getting and why. I don't go to the dealer, I go to Midtown Auto and am always satisfied.
