Home Building
I contracted Coventry Homes, "MHI Builders of Houston" [weblink removed]?to build a home in the Magnolia Creek subdivision. Located in League City, Texas. Upon inspection of the home later on by a licensed state inspector, many flaws were discovered. The main concern was the Simpson Strong Ties that secure the roof to the bottom portion of the structure were not properly installed per the recommended guidelines by Simpson. MHI refused to correct the problem stating that per the engineering firm that inspects all of their new homes, they then receive the Windstorm & Hail Certificate. It then became a non issue. The Simpson Strong Ties were not taut, and numerous holes not filled with fasteners per the inspection report. "Such as nails." I made a deposit of $37,344 dollars which they refused to refund. The bulk of this deposit was not required to the tune of $34,000 dollars. "Not counting inspection fees which would bring the total to over $40,000." I made the additional deposit to help with closing costs. And to try and offset the mortgage costs in the event of purchasing the new home. Even with the additional monies I put down, they still refused to refund any of my money per the earnest money contract. To not refund the additional deposit money is unprofessional to say the least. Since then I have made many discoveries with regards to the building practices of many tract home builders in general. I will never purchase another production tract home ever! I will build my own home in the future. I do not recommend purchasing any homes manufactured by MHI Builders of Houston. Always check with the BBB of Houston on any home builder. "If builders do not agree to amend their Buy Sell Agreements or Earnest Money Contracts to give consumers more rights, then I suggest that the consumers walk away." Since this event has transpired, a family has purchased the home in question. They discovered the inspection report and are not at all happy. The report was not disclosed to them upon purchasing this home built by MHI Builders. And the saga continues..........
