Medranos Flooring

Mr. Medrano came out and gave us a quote after taking measurements.  We were in no rush to complete the work, so we asked if he had flexibility on his price based upon timing.  He said the price is firm but we waited a few months and called back with the price we were willing to pay and they agreed.  Medranos sent a crew to start the work, but I think we got the "B" or "C" team for our price savings.  They removed the carpet and were also set to remove old tile in our entry but the crew decided to just thinset and tile over the old tile.  This was a huge issue for us but Mr. Medrano assured us it was not a problem.  The quote included removing an old toilet and replacing it with a new one we purchased for our second bath.  When the crew removed the old toilet they could not figure out how to install the new one and told us we would have to call a plumber to install the new toilet.  We protested and finally the crew called out a more senior person who was able to install the toilet for us.  
Once the job was done it looked good (not great).  After two months we could hear hollow spots under the tile and after 6 months pieces started to crack for lack of thinset under the tile.  The work was warrantied for a year but when they won't return your calls, the warranty is worthless.  Eventually we had to hire a different contractor to repair the horrible tile job Medranos did for us.  I would recommend you stay away from Medranos.  They did not stand behind the job they did for us and I would not use them again!

 August 2007 ? We met with Robert Medrano and he gave us his business card with Christian fish logo and one phone number (Cell) with no street address. He quoted us $5,100 to purchase, fabricate, deliver & install granite counter tops in the kitchen, master bath, and bar. He asked for and was paid 50% for the job or $2,550 check #2971 dated August 18, 2007 which he cashed immediately as reflected in our bank dated stamp. September 2007 ? During the entire month of September we continued our attempts to call Robert Medrano to have him fabricate the granite and install it before our move-in. He would not answer his phone and then his voice mailbox was full and would not take any messages. We researched the City of Pearland to locate a business or residence telephone number for this man. His son answered the phone and we left messages with the son but Robert never returned our call. We contacted Jose Fernando who was his fabricator and he told us that Medrano never brought the granite to his shop. We contacted his granite supplier, Empire Marble, and we were told that our granite selection was not pick up or paid for by Robert Medrano and they plan to sell the granite slabs to other customers October 2007 - We finally gave up on getting Medrano to do the job or refund the $2,550 he received and cashed the check and located another granite contractor who did the granite and finished the job for us. July 2008 - We retained a lawyer and filed a lawsuit against Robert Medrano in the Small Claims Court to reclaim our monies under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practice Act. Medrano managed to evade the Sherriff deputy to serve him with court papers and the case was withdrawn and we are still out $2,550 while Robert Medrano continues to advertise to get tile and countertop jobs etc.

. A sales person at Floor/Decor where we selected and bought the laminate recommended Mr. Medrano. He measured the house.. estimate for $5, 699 for materials and labor. We agreed to pay half to begin and the other half at completion. He picked up materials we had chosen. He arrived late with 2 workmen. I requested receipts and references . He said he would bring them. I went in each day to see the work. A tool broke but Medrano arrived 2 hours later with something to fix it, visiting briefly, He came as work was completed for final payment. The floor looked good. New tenants, arrived April 24, 2010. On June 2, our tenants reported a "soft area" on the floor at the kitchen section entrance. I called Mr. Medrano. No reply. I called both numbers and e-mailed frequently. Mr. Medrano finally replied arrived on July 22. nearly 3 months since the first report. With tenants reporting more concerns he said "Glue was needed". He would send someone to glue it. He said his work was warranted for a year which is what his web site says. I continued to call many times with no reply and his mail box was full. No receipts or references were ever provided. My husband and I are seniors on fixed income. Our tenants needed the floor repaired so we paid another contractor for repair. The original laminated wood had been broken when being placed down and the subfloor not padded as needed. We have still heard nothing from Mr. Medrano
