MARKAY FURNITURE CTR

We took the chairs to Markay Furniture to get an opinion on the possibility of repair, and met Marvin Schmidt, the owner of this family business (Mr. Schmidt, who apparently has had this family business since 1957, works there with his sons). Mr. Schmidt spent a long time assessing the chairs and relating many interesting facts about how they were made and what could be done to restore them. We decided to go ahead with the restoration and asked if the chairs could possibly be completed before Christmas (which was about three weeks away), and he said yes. We selected new upholstery, and left the chairs. After only about two weeks, we received a call from Mr. Schmidt that the chairs were ready. We went to the store and were thrilled to find the chairs in absolutely beautiful condition. Even the detailed wood carving on the chairs had been perfectly restored. Not only were the obvious parts addressed, such as the reupholstering and wood refinishing, but the joints had been refitted, the springs repaired, etc. Two days later, I received a follow-up call from Mr. Schmidt, who wanted to find out how my daughter liked the chairs! This is truly Old World craftsmanship (and friendliness) at its finest -- something that has become quite difficult to find. Although the work was not inexpensive, I feel that the amount of work required and, especially, the quality of the workmanship completely justify the cost (and the cost was exactly as quoted when we dropped off the chairs). I would highly recommend Markay Furniture for expert restoration of fine furniture, as well as for a wonderful overall experience.
