Description of Work: Jones Tree service has been to my property twice over the last two years and did a great job shaping and thinning my live oaks and pines. Unfortunately, they forgot about my business with them and "property lined" one of my beautiful live oaks when trimming my neighbors property. They left a lopsided tree with unsightly stumps. They came out to look after I complained, but couldn't fix.

Honest...I never met the owner or his crew. I called...he responded promptly to assess the situation, set a date and done. Easy as that. While I was at work the tree came down. I have to assume the stump was ground because that area is covered in the shavings/cuttings/whatever they are called and I haven't investigated the possible remains of a stump. They left the invoice on my front door and that is it! I had no idea this project would be this easy.

The office was responsive. We changed the date because of family issues. This was not a problem. At the last minute I asked for a copy of "Certificate of Liability Insurance" which was promptly supplied by email. The final price was exactly as quoted. We received a confirming call the night before the work was scheduled. The crew that arrived was efficient and business like. We were impressed by their expertise and teamwork. They removed the large tree in close quarters without touching the house. All branches and trunk were hauled away and the work site was cleaned up. The job could not have been better done.
Description of Work: Felled large oak tree(4+ feet circumference at base in middle of patio, surrounded on all sides within five to eight feet by house and fence. Trimmed dead from crepe myrtles and removed branches too near garage roof.

Not much to say, dealing with Jones Road Tree Service was pretty straightforward and hassle-free. They sent out their men the first day to cut down the two trees we requested, and then about 4 days later they came back to grind the stumps. One of the trees was a cypress (?) tree that had a lot of stumps all over the place, so the end result was a little messy as to be expected, but there were a couple of minor remnants that were not dealt with. We asked our gardener later to gather the wood chips and use as mulch for our smaller trees and hedges. All in all we were satisfied with the job.

This company has a major communications problem! I have cancelled my plans to use their service because they fail to show up on time and the office/owner does not call or communicate whatsoever. My neighbor and I arranged to have Jones Rd. Tree Service come on March 15th to remove two large pine trees on my yard and one large pine tree and several tallow trees on her yard. The estimate for removing my two pine trees, including grinding the stumps, was very reasonable and we were both looking forward to having the work done. The workers were expected to arrive sometime in the morning, but did not. When I called to check, the owner told me they had delays due to a tree falling on a house as well as a worker who had something to take care of first. He expected them to come by 1pm but they did not arrive until 2 pm. They started on the neighbor's yard and quickly removed her tallow trees, then started on her very large pine tree. As the afternoon progressed, it became clear that they weren't going to even get started on my yard. The workers were WONDERFUL - I watched them as they carefully cut down a very large pine tree in my neighbor's yard. They did not have enough time to grind the stumps in my neighbor's yard, though. They said they would come tomorrow to do my work, but I had previous commitments and told them that would not work. I called the office to reschedule for the next Friday, the 23rd. I was told the workers would arrive between 8 and 12, but by 1 pm they had not shown up. When I called the office, I was told that there was no way a crew could get there today, at which point I told them I was no longer interested. I did tell them that my neighbor would like to have her job finished, and was told that they "never grind these stumps the same day." This surprised me because I assumed they would be able to do it in one day, since other companies in the area had done so. If this is standard for this company, it would have been beneficial to know about this ahead of time. Now that I have cancelled my order, they have been calling me repeatedly and the owner just showed up at my door, which I find rather aggressive. I told him I was not interested. All this company had to do was keep me informed, but for whatever reason they have chosen not to. They seem to have scheduling/communication issues, and don't contact the customer.
Description of Work: My neighbor and I got an estimate from this company to have two large pine trees in my yard, and one large pine tree and 3 tallow trees in her yard removed. This included grinding the stumps, and we had the impression that all the work could be done in one day. The estimate for removing my two trees was very reasonable - $1450.

We will not hire Jones Road Tree Service (JRTS) again for the following reasons: 1) our instruction was to thin out the crape myrtle trees but instead they were topped off, 2) workers were too lazy to cut down a large limb and instead drug it through our gate damaging the cedar trim & posts and even moved the posts out of place (trim will need to be replaced and cedar refinished), 3) their chainsaws or other equipment was leaking oil and dripped a stream of oil ALL down the length of our driveway and across the front of our lawn (stained the concrete & killed the grass!!), 5) even though my husband spotted the BRIGHT ORANGE cable line for the person grinding the stumps, the worker cut our cable line & neglected to tell anyone at home, 6) foreman demanded payment before all work was completed & was charged the wrong amount, and finally 7) had difficulty reaching anyone at their main office phone number to report issues. We finally reached the owner David Maulk and David had an excuse for everything. He even suggested it was our fault for not telling his workers what to do. I don't believe it is the customer's responsibility to manage how they run their crew. We provided them with a detailed drawing & list of all the work well beforehand. We even offered to review the work again before the start date and David declined. JRTS only offered a $50 discount for all the trouble. If you like to do a lot of repairs after a crew leaves, JRTS is the company for you. If you do hire JRTS, I would suggest giving them only 1 thing to do and stand & watch every minute of their activity. Note to JRTS: Your office personnel NEED customer service training - be friendly and professional, treat customers with respect, and answer the phone stating the company name. Best of luck with JRTS - hope your experience is better than ours!

Response from Jones Road Tree Service LLC
In response to the member's comments, first and foremost we apologize for any inconveniences and/or damages that occurred during the services we performed. We also deeply regret that our efforts to remedy each of the members' complaints were not acceptable. We would like to address each of their points as summarized below: 1) Regarding the crape myrtles, visual inspection prior to commencing the job revealed large knobs with new growth sprouts – telltale signs they had been “topped off” in the past by other tree trimmers. We explained to the client that when crape myrtles had been topped off previously, it’s very difficult to “thin them out” in such a way that the trees no longer looked topped off. In other words, the current visual appearance of the trees is irreversible, and we did the best we could with the customer’s crape myrtles. 2) The back gate that was damaged was very narrow and we placed slats of wood on the inside of the gate sides in an effort to protect it as we hauled the tree trimmings through the gate. Unfortunately, it was not reasonable to completely cut down all of the trimmings to fit perfectly through the narrow gate and some damage occurred to the gate trim and finish. We apologized for the damage and offered to repair the gate, however, the member stated she preferred instead to take a price reduction on the job. We agreed on a settlement and it was our understanding that the issue was resolved. 3) The oil spillage was not related to the chainsaws. Rather, the stump grinder hose broke and spilled oil in the grass and on the driveway. We cleaned up the oil on the driveway and in the yard. 4) The cable line was entangled within the stump and it was impossible to fully remove the stump without damaging the cable. We apologize that this damage occurred as a result of the stump removal. 5) Our foreman did not demand the payment from the member. Rather, he simply handed the bill to the member as the crew was finishing. Per the terms of the contract, payment is not due until the stump removal is completed. In most cases, the stump removal crew arrives later in the day or the following day to complete the job. If the member misinterpreted being handed the bill and felt he was being forced to pay prior to the job completion, we sincerely apologize. Under no circumstances do we ever expect or accept payments prior to completion of the specified work. In the end, we regret that the member's job was not completed to their satisfaction but strongly feel that the major issues that occurred were in fact reconciled prior to the completion of the work and acceptance of payment. Further, we would have gladly addressed these concerns further with the member’s had they simply presented their continued objections directly to us instead of posting their complaints indirectly through an online forum.

They were referred to me by a colleague. The only thing they need to improve on is their responsiveness. We called them one day and they did not show up. There was some miscommunication. One person said that he would come, but he did not until we called back. They did a very good job and cleaned up well. They were very fast.

Mr. Mauk was the first to come by with an estimate and his turned out to be the second lowest of five. I chose Jones Road Tree Service because he said his company was insured and bonded, and because he was so prompt and professional. The service was performed flawlessly. A team using ropes lowered the upper branches as the climber cut them from the trunk thus avoiding any damage to the house. The team then removed all wood and debris. Later a young man with a radio controlled stump grinder came out and removed the stump leaving no sign of the tree exept for some shavings, which I will use for mulch. I wish I still had the tree, but, all in all, the final outcome was better than I had expected.
Description of Work: Drought and Pine Bark Beetles killed a 180 year old (rings counted later) 60 foot tall pine tree that was just twenty feet from the house. The tree also leaned toward the house. I wanted it removed so falling branches would not damage the house.

I have recommended them to all my friends and all of them are happy with his service. I was not here so I did not see them but I saw everything before they left. I saw nothing was disturbed. The trees were gone and everything was handled. When they came back and did the stumps, they didn’t present the bill until everything was completed. Their price was competitive. We used him again because of the work he does. They were interested in conserving and saving trees if possible. I would use them in the future.

I called them 3 times before they put me on the schedule. The person answering the phones gave me an estimate the 1st time I called, but for some reason never put me on the schedule. The work was finally done 2 1/2 weeks after I first called. I think they trimmed too many of the lower branches of the large oak tree, but hopefully the top will fill out and look good. I wish I would have stopped them before they cut so much off though.

We had to schedule the service a couple of times which was a little bit of an inconvenience -- not all their fault -- mostly weather related. I got 6 quotes from different tree services and this one was the cheapest. I was thoroughly happy and have already referred them to my next door neighbor and my mom. We'll definitely use them again. It was a great experience.
