Joe Hardwood Floors

Note - these were real hardwood floors, not composite or engineered. It went generally well, on-schedule and on-budget. Joe was very thorough in the walk-through and the estimate was detailed. He could have communicated more proactively about minor issues that came up. I had previously had existing hardwoods sanded and the dust throughout the entire house was a disaster (different contractor). Joe's crew took care to limit the dust from sanding the new floors and I really appreciated that. We still need to recondition some floors and we will reach out to Joe Hardwood to do that job as well.

Joe (the owner) initially came to look at job. He seemed like a nice guy and interested in doing the work. Before i hired him I had some questions on the process and product they would be using and it was almost impossible to get any response. During that time I removed all of the stairs myself so they could be refinished in his shop. It took several months to get his crew to show up and pick up the stairs, during which time I had to use makeshift stairs. The stairs were done in two bathes and when I got the second batch of stairs back they were "tacky" and the finish didn't match the finish on the first batch of stairs they finished. I had to text Joe several times after that to get the name of the product he used so I can have some of the stairs redone. Before he started on my stairs, I told Joe several times I wanted several coats of urethane applied to the stairs. He never told me how many he applied but it looks like one or two at best. i noted from his final invoice that I could have requested additional coats at $.25/ft which would have have been just a few $ per stair. He never asked how many coats I wanted to be applied but I would have requested several additional coats if he had bothered to ask me. Of course, given the fact I will have to redo some, or all, of the stairs its not much of an issue. I should have trusted my gut when he got flaky and just did the job myself. it was almost 9 months from the time I got his estimate until the job was finished. In all fairness some of that time was on me but most of that was time I was waiting on him and his crew.

The worker took the closet doors off. I was told they would be put back on when the job was complete. I notified Joe via a phone, text and email. He never responded once. Before I hired him he said he fully back up his work. I don't understand why he would not respond or have his worker come back to put the doors back on.

Joe came out and gave me an estimate, which I thought was very reasonable. His employees were professional and wanted to ensure that we were happy with the results, which we are! We'd removed a false-fireplace and a couple of walls, and Joe's crew repaired these areas, inserting new boards in the spaces left as a result of the demolition. The floors look as though they've always been there, and blend seamlessly with the rest of the 50 year old mixed red and white oak. Our hideous "1980s yellow" floors are now a beautiful strawberry blonde color, and are holding up beautifully, despite the fact that we have two rambunctious dogs. I highly recommend Joe and his flooring crew.

Rob was very prompt in responding to my request and going to our home to estimate the job. Likewise, his crew was fast in getting the job started and finished ahead of schedule. They did a terrific job restoring our 60 years old, pet stained, worn out hardwood floors. They were clean, fast, and very professional. Rob even took the time to send us recommendations for floor cleaning and maintenance. I would definitely recommend their work.

I had Joe's Hardwood Floors install hardwood floor for me last week. I supplied the wood they installed it. Everything went as planned and the floors look great. They seem to have done a great job with the install. Rob explained every step of the way and worked with me on payment. Price seemed fair even cheaper than another place I looked. 
Would definitely work with them again if ever needed.

Plumber gouged my nice floors (previously refinished by Joes Hardwoods) by dragging a clawfoot tup across them.   Worker sanded down boards and restained/revarnished and they look awesome....you can only see the gouges if you look for them.  What was a terrible looking scratched floor now looks almost perfect.   Also installed large thresholds which I had purchased and stained myself.   Took a long time to arrange...four emails over 2 months, until guys had a free afternoon.   $275 for two guys, about 90 minutes of work;  well worth it given the attractiveness of the floors.

Joe and his employees did a great job! Our floor + stairs look beautiful. He was very accommodating and gave us great advice.
Overall we are extremely happy with the outcome.  The price was also very competitive. Work was done timely with no complications and/or surprises.

My interaction and experience with Joe Hardwood was excellent. This is the second time I have hired them to refinish wooden floors in my home. Rob was, as always, punctual and pleasant to work with. He performed the estimate very quickly and provided me a copy of the proposal via email very soon after he finished measuring the rooms. Based on my past experience with Joe Hardwood, I knew I was getting high value for the cost, which is comparable to most other service providers. My next interaction was with Ossie, the project manager. He too was very courteous and punctual. He walked me through the timeline and made himself available as the point of contact. The sanding process was quick and as clean as one could expect. When it was time to select a finish, my wife and I selected one that ended up being too light and had to quickly get Ossie involved to correct our issue. He and his staff were able to mix two stains together and apply a second coat of stain that was perfect. It was done so well it is hard to differentiate between the new finishing job and the floors we were trying to match them to. The process of applying polyurethane was quick - two coats over three days. The floors are beautiful and we are very happy with the work.

I used Joe Hardwood Floors to refinish my floors in my home and am very pleased with the outcome. From the time I requested a quote to completion of the job (including calls to them); everyone on their staff was punctual, friendly, and helpful. My floors are original hardwoods from the 50?s and they look brand new!  The process they use to sand left minimal dust. I couldn?t believe I didn?t have to wipe everything down.  I highly recommend them.

I contracted this company after seeing their work at another house on my block. I was given a start date for each phase of work  .When bad weather took them off schedule they made it up on sat. The start and finish was on time.The guys work hard, were very respectful ,picked up the 600 sq. ft of wood stored in my sons garage nearby ,and cleaned up at the end of each day.
   I will conclude by saying I stayed in the house while work was being done because of my dogs. It was a long 3 weeks, but at the end so worth it. My floors look great and I will enjoy them for many years. I would recommend Joe Hardwood Floors to anyone needing this service. May consider staying somewhere else if the job is big. 

The install lasted over a few weeks and was completely painless.  They installed a plastic covering for the kitchen to prevent dust blow back.  The floors look amazing and I am glad I picked Joe Hardwood Floors. They are highly rated for a reason.

Not sure if I can emphasize this enough - WE ARE COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY BY THE JOB THIS CONTRACTOR DID. They were punctual, patient, professional and - in our opinion - the very best in Houston at their trade. While other contractors' bids came in lower, we felt confident in paying a little extra for this company after speaking with Rob on the phone. Bottom line - THEY KNOW HARDWOOD FLOORS LIKE NOBODY'S BUSINESS. As anyone will tell you, refinishing hardwoods is an expensive and complicated endeavor and you simply cannot afford (literally) to hire someone that doesn't know what they're doing. Joe Hardwood Floors has far exceeded every expectation we had for our relatively large job and we can't be more grateful. We would highly recommend this company for any hardwood project - especially the big ones! Great job Ossie and team!
