I've been going to this repair shop for over 5 years. The young man's uncle managed the store before and he was wonderful...did a fine job, was meticulous. His uncle had polished and replaced the sole on this very same pair of loafers 6 months before. The heel and sole were wearing and I pointed out that there appeared to be a start of an opening where the sole and inside of both shoes met. I said could he repair that too and he said he would do that the "next" time he did this type of maintenance. I said since you are doing this overhaul (if you will) shouldn't you do that repair now. He said no need to. I said OK, but two weeks after I received them back I was walking for 5 minutes in the rain and both of my feet were soaked!
When I brought them back I told him about the leak and said two weeks before he said I should not have the repair done. He said "I trust my own judgment" and I said but you were wrong...so I had to have the whole $59 charge again because he said he could not fix the hole unless he redid the whole sole. Unbelievable... The worse part was that when he gave me the shoes back, he had only done the inside repair on the left shoe..;.the right shoe inside was NOT REPAIRED. Plus, I asked him to "scuff up" the soles because the shoes were slippery. His uncle had done that for me every time I had the sole replaced. He said he did not know how to do that and I reminded him his uncle had a piece of sandpaper or some such tool when he did it before. He did not even look and said he did not have that here. I reminded him if I fell in his store, he would be liable..so he implied I better fall after I'm out the door.
Obviously I'm not going back...within 2 weeks I had to pay $59 twice and then the shoe was not even repaired. His uncle (a fine craftsman and very professional) has retired and I so very miss him.

I first balked at the cost, but upon receiving the repaired shoes back, I have to say it was worth it. | |The shoes now look virtually brand new.
