Heights Handyman
About us
Scott understands your growing "To Do" list can feel overwhelming. This along with busy work schedules makes commitments to family and community difficult. Scott Nickell is a native Houstonian, and has actively been involved in his local community for years. As a homeowner, Scott was constantly frustrated with the level of workmanship and customer service common in the home improvement industry. Scott felt it was time to find a solution and decided to start his own handyman/remodeling company in Houston TX - Heights Handyman. Scott is dedicated to his community and has excellent work ethic. We specialize in home repairs and remodels. We have a well qualified group of team members and contractors that can do anything from your basic home repairs to painting, custom carpentry, tiling and flooring. We use licensed sub-contractors where required.

I will definitely call them again for any future projects.
Scott and I scheduled a day with open hours for someone to come out and remove/replace/paint two sideboards of out garage that had severe wood rot. When I woke up that morning, I opened the gate for them to have access to the side of the garage and I pulled out the paint that was needed to paint the new wood to match the existing exterior. I left for the day.
When I returned later that day I checked the work and it was excellent - you would never even know tha there was ever any rot on the side of the garage!
I am making a list of things around the condo that he can come back and knock out.
We ordered a custom made pre-hung front entry door that needed to be installed, finished (stained), and the trim replaced. The job went very well and we are very pleased with the results.
Step 1:
First, we ordered the custom door and when it was ready, Scott and his crew went out to the door company, picked up the door and delivered it to our house. Next, Francisco removed our existing front door as well as all of the trim. Then, he installed the pre-hung door and also installed brand new trim around the door to match the existing trim throughout the exterior and interior of the house (he installed new trim on both sides of the door).
Step 2:
Once the door and new trim were installed, Mario came out to paint the trim and stain the new door. We requested that a mix of stains be applied on the new door to reach our desired color. On the first day, Mario applied the mixed stain to perfection (it required a base coat of stain with a second stain lightly applied on top of the first stain.), and some of the new trim was painted with a first coat. The next day, the newly stained door was sealed and it looked fantastic! Mario also completed painting the new trim and also skimmed over some cracks due to our recent re-leveling of the house and floated out the sheetrock to match the large gap created by the new interior trim (we live in a 1920's Craftsman and thus, the walls were not "exactly" level).
In the end, everything was great. The entire installation process went very well and we are extremely pleased with our new front door. Scott and his crew were a pleasure to work with - both Francisco and Mario were very skilled at their craft.
We have used Heights Handyman several times in the past, but this has been by far the best job they have ever done for us. We definitely plan on using him again in the future.
In all, Scott used four contractors on my job. I felt comfortable with each one. The first day, a painter came and powerwashed my stucco and painted my balcony railings. A day or two later, the shower contractor calked my shower. Finally the front door was a process that took several days. First, the contractor stained the door and took my door iron with him to paint. The next day, the contractor applied the first coat of marine varnish. The next day, after that dried (and while the door iron was still off), the carpenter came, took the door off, installed the weatherstripping and fixed the cabinet drawer. Then the contractor applied the second coat of varnish and finished the front door.
I paid Scott in two installments, about half the invoice each time. The final payment came after the work was complete and I was satisfied with it. The first payment was made well over halfway into the job. I never felt like I was pre-paying. In fact, I offered to make a "down payment" before the job began and Scott refused.
I would note that sometimes, Scott does his own work. I had a ceiling fan issue I chose not to address. Scott would have done that work himself.
I would recommend the Heights Handyman to any of my neighbors.
I couldn't be happier with the overall job, and I will certainly have him bid any future work I have.
