The original contract called for a two month project, but at five months, the work is still not complete and Heavenly Homes has so far refused to return, complete the remaining work, remediate all deficient work, and repair the extensive damage they inflicted on our home ? in particular all of our stained wood cabinetry, baseboards and trim. There are three primary issues with the work that Heavenly Homes has done or attempted to do: 1) Quality and attention to detail, 2) Timeliness and 3) Reasonable attempts to protect areas of our home not being worked on ? or to protect work already completed. 1) Quality: Prior to signing a contract, we had extensive discussions with the owner, Rory Caton, regarding the level of quality we expected him to provide. He assured us that he had a group of outstanding subs who could meet or exceed our requirements. Unfortunately, the majority of them fell far short. This included tile, carpet, sheetrock, texture, cabinets, paint, etc. We ultimately had to bring in our own tile, carpet, floor finishers and carpenter to ensure that any remaining work was done correctly without extensive rework ? and the resulting delays. 2) Timeliness: Rory?s project schedules ? which he would reluctantly provide - were handwritten on a photocopied calendar page. He seemed to have no real problem with promising a deadline, and then not only missing it, but not communicating that it would not be met. 3) Protecting our home: Despite repeated requests that he cover, tape, pad, or otherwise protect the existing cabinets, trim, shutters, window sills, etc, Rory repeatedly declined to take any preventative actions saying that he ?could fix it?. Gouges, dents, scratches and broken items resulted At the point that Rory deemed the project ?done? and demanded his last draw payment of $12,000, our kitchen appliances were literally sitting on the back patio or in the garage, raw home audio wires were literally hanging out of the walls, and numerous contractual items had not yet been started or completed. We requested, as any reasonable homeowner would, that he complete the remaining work before making that payment. He was so infuriated that he responded that we had materially breached the contract, and suspended all work. We?ve contacted him and offered to make the final draw payment immediately, despite our belief that the work wasn?t complete, or completed satisfactorily, but he refused to accept the payment, indicated that we ?no longer have a contract? and would not discuss the matter further. It should be noted that we had already paid Rory $200,000 in total - on time - in spite of deficiencies and delays in virtually every aspect of the job. We believe the cost for us to hire someone to complete this work is well in excess of the remaining contract value. This experience has honestly been a complete nightmare for my husband and me. We recommend that anyone contemplating work with this company use extreme caution.
Description of Work: We contracted with Heavenly Homes to repair damage caused by Hurricane Ike as well as some minor remodeling that made sense to fit within the schedule. This included water remediation, a new roof, replacing/refinishing and weather stripping all exterior doors, replacing all flooring in the house, replacing insulation, drywall/texture/paint, build out of master closet, upgrade home audio wiring, demo and replacement of simple cabinetry, and other minor improvements.
