I received a call from Pat Harper, from a third party that provided my information to him as a lead. He was really abrupt and unprofessional and stated my yard was too small for his business and getting my contact information cost him money which was now a waste. I understand that some companies will not maintain small yards but it was a very rude phone call and I wouldn't recommend his services.

I found HBH on the web by Google search. looked at website, everything looked legit. So I called or e-mailed and set up a appt (12:15pm, on my lunch hour) to see my propoerty. He showed up on time we went to the back yard where the problem is. Pat started looking around in the backyard assessing the situaton. So I started asking him some questions, because I know nothing about drainage. He said right from the start "I don't want to say too much before I get some information and have time to make a drainage plan." I thought that was fair. So I asked about the "commercial leveling tool" advertised on his website. He said "just by looking you have plenty of slope from here to the front." Again I thought yah he's probably right. So he said it is $ 600.00 for me to draw up a drainage plan. He said that was because people could take the plan and get someone else to do the work and he would be left hanging. Right then, I started getting suspicious. Money for nothing I thought. So I asked a few more questions and he kept replying I don't want to say too much until I have time to draw up a drainage plan. Then he said " You really need to pay me for a drainage plan." So we talked a little more and I wrote him a $ 600.00 check for a "drainage plan". He left about 12:45. He said he had another appt in the area and after that was coming back to take some measurements. I returned to work about 1:00. At approx.1:45 my cell rang it was Pat. He said he had gone back to my place and done what he need to do and that he had the plan worked out and wanted me to meet him back there and he would show me. So I said I thought you were going to make a "drainage plan"? He said "I got it all worked out in my head." I told him that I had payed $ 600.00 for a "drainage plan". He said "I could draw you a sketch or something." I did not like this but agreed to meet him. I thought about it for a few hours and was not happy about the situation. So I decided to put a stop payment on the check. So I did and sent Pat an e-mail explaining that I was doing this and was not interrested in pursuing our business any further. He replied saying he regretted it but that I had signed a "contract" for the design and consultation fee. I didn't feel too bad about it until the next day when, after contacting my bank, I found out he had "cashed" the check at around 1:30 that same afternoon. 45 minutes after we met and 15 minutes before he called and said he had the plan in his head. Which I verified with Bank of America by going to a branch AND HAVING THEM PRINT OUT ALL OF THE TRANSACTIONS FROM THAT DAY. BOA said they could not do anything because the check was cashed already. A couple of days later he mailed the "sketch", which my 5 year old could have done. $ 600.00 for a "sketch".
